Very comfortable house with everything that you need to enjoy a wonderful holiday.

Maison d'Alexandra is a well appointed home. Very Well equipped for your holiday requirements.The kitchen overlooks the river and has just been re-decorated and new appliances fitted. All of our guests have fallen in love with the house and location, which allows us to welcome back many returning families each year. The marble floors, grand stone fireplace, large dining table and very comfortable seating all provide a great space for relaxing or entertaining with family or friends. The terrace and garden are a sun trap during the day and the ideal area to barbecue on an evening while watching the sun set over the river or perhaps a late evening coffee after a fabulous meal at one of the villages Riverside Restaurants. All three bedrooms have wonderful views at the front of the property and are therefore equally light, airy and spacious. This stunning area is great for walking, cycling, canoeing, horse riding, fishing, swimming, hot-Air balloon festivals, motorbike and quadbike festivals or sit back and enjoy the wonderful local food and wine. A great place to spend Christmas or New Year with friends or family! If you have a special occasion in mind: Please let me know if I can help with any little surprises for your arrival!

Two new adult bicycles are available for guest use upon request

I live very close to Maison d'Alexandra with my husband and two children.

Why The Owner chose Gagnac-sur-Cère

Once you have visited Maison d'Alexandra you will know why we fell in love with this property and it's location. We had visited the lovely old port of Port-De-Gagnac on many occasions and commented on its beautiful setting over-looking the River and Surrounding rolling hills. To be able to enjoy fabulous food and wine then walk back home is just perfect! Spending time relaxing on the balcony and terrace while the dinner is cooking and you are enjoying a bottle of wine - the children are playing in the garden or watching the ducks swimming and herons fishing on the River with the local Fisherman. Walking distance to a play park and two fantastic restaurants as well as relaxing,sight seeing or adventure days out for all the family!

What makes this house unique

Maison d'Alexandra is a very spacious property. Very light and airy with lovely big windows to enjoy the views. Optional out door seating areas for different occasions are especially useful for a larger family. The grand dining room with it's huge stone fireplace is always very popular with our guests as it leads out onto the balcony over the River. All three bedrooms are a good size and all have the same views over the river. Having two bath/shower rooms is also a bonus for two or three couples sharing the house. Believe it or not the kitchen is also a favourite with all of our guests because it leads out onto the balcony and also has lovely views of the river. Anyone who enjoyes fishing need look no further than right outside the front door!

Our third time in the area, we cannot recommend it highly enough. First time at Maison d'Alexandra and loved it! Money cannot buy these views. The gite is just great, a wonderful holiday home! Loved the terrace and balcony overlooking the river. We will return. Mr/Mrs Kirkham Australia.

Notes on accommodation: Gas for cooking and oil for central heating are included within the weekly price. It is suitable for large families of all ages, couples, friends or perhaps two families due to the number of bathrooms. Large families and groups of couples/ friends have enjoyed the space that this house provides both inside and outside. As all the rooms are light and airy with plenty of relaxing, comfortable seating to enjoy the views. Because the bedrooms are large they can be arranged to suite the your specific family/friends arrangement. For example two doubles and the third bedroom with four singles. Or an extra single bed in the double room and lots of room for cots in with the doubles. Outside: Wooden set of chairs and table on the balcony for morning coffee. Large set of dining/reclining chairs and table on the terrace with large sun shade. Relaxing Sun loungers and beach mats (perfect to take to the lakes). A Weber BBQ and all utensils are also provided for your use. Fresh Herbs and Strawberries are growing in the garden. Seating area on the top terrace garden. All outside areas are for this property only. If you are a keen fisherman you can enjoy fishing right ourside the house or further along the Cere or Dordogne. Fancy a fresh trout for breakfast! The house is also equiped with beach mats, a smaller sun shade, pick-nic food boxes, plastic plates,cups,cutlery and flasks. Pack yourselves a good lunch for a day at the lakes, fun park or a drive out in this lush countryside. Utility Room: Automatic washing machine. Twin large sinks. Clothes airer for use indoor or out. Iron and Ironing board. All cleaning and washing materials. Snooker table and Air hockey table in the cave/garage! Separate television for the games station upstairs! Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Large bath and hand towels are provided for each guest. All bed linen is provided. Hand towels for each washroom are provided. Bath/shower mats and t-towels provided. These are all changed weekly! The house is cleaned for your arrival! Other: Every room in the house is bright, airy and very comfortable. An integral garage for use during your stay. A large entrance hall (lots of storage space) and vestibule for quiet reading (plenty of reading material about the local area and places to visit).

The perfect french holiday?

We had a cracking time at this French holiday home. Easy to find. As there was seven of us, the house was better internally, space wise, than we thought also it has everything you need. This included kitchen foil and lots of things that you use at home but never take on holiday. So attention to details. The outside terrace/garden is enclosed which is why we booked it as we had a 4 1/2 year old with us. The restaurant along the road as brilliant. We should have visited earlier, Doh. The surrounding area will take some exploring. We only managed to see a small part. We believe that there is at least two weeks worth of the area to explore so we must go back. Caroline & David turned up when they said they would. Thank you for the use of your house.

P.S. the welcome pack was very welcome although the wine didn't hang around too long!!

P.S.S. whoever is reading this review please read the other reviews. They list a lot of the things that we did and saw so I don't want to repeat them but everything is worth doing.

A beautiful house that became like "our home"

We knew from the photographs and the description of the property and immediate surroundings that we had found a great place for the 5 of us. The reality was even better.

We found the house very spacious and comfortable with the ensuite bedroom, a large terrace, with numerous chairs, loungers and BBQ.

The balcony, accessible from the very well equipped kitchen and the living room, offers beautiful views of the river and Port Gagnac.

We particularly appreciated the fact that the house remained very cool when it reached 36C outside!

The house is tastefully decorated and there is a large supply of informative books on the area, as well as reading material and DVDs.

The owner had left a basket of essential food for our arrival, as well as a few treats, including a bottle of wine! We also appreciated the fact that there was soap, toilet paper in all 3 toilets, as well as essential products in the kitchen, from washing up liquid to aluminium foil.

We tried both restaurants near the house, but our favourite was the Logis de France, Auberge du Port de Gagnac. Also in the village or "bourg", "Au chant des Oiseaux" cannot be beaten, with a 4 course lunch for 12,50 euros!

Our favourite bakers was in Biars, a 5 minute drive away, opposite the gendarmerie.

Places of interest abound in the Lot and nearby Dordogne. On a hot day the "green beach" at Beaulieu sur Dordogne is a must. Follow the signs for the "Base de loisirs".

A short drive away, the chateau de Castelnau with its little village is very impressive, superb Rocamadour and the Gouffre de Padirac within easy reach. We also explored picturesque villages of Loubressac, Autoire, unique Collonges la Rouge and others.

It is also worth stopping in the wine producing village of Glanes, 3km away from Gagnac, for a tasting at one of the very welcoming winemakers. We visited JC Fregeat.

If you like fishing, just step outside the house and cast your line, in the hope of catching trout. The owners of the excellent fishing tackle shop by the bridge at nearby Bretenoux will give you the names of peaceful lakes in the area where you can picnic and fish.

I would certainly recommend this property to anyone and hope to return there myself.

My wife, myself and our 2 daughters stayed for a week in this fabulous house. We had been to many places in Europe on our European tour but this place was outstanding out of all the places we had been to. The place was huge, fully furnished with everything you need, clean, well maintained, very comfortable with wonderful views. A welcome package of goodies awaited you on arrival! Location was perfect in a tiny village next to the river Cere. The local people are really friendly and accommodating. Our hosts Caroline and David are really friendly and will do everything possible to ensure you have the best experience possible. A note on the local people, I lost my camera in the village and I assumed it was the last I saw of it. A local found it and returned it to the local restaurant we had last been to. A few days later we went back there for a meal and the waitress greeted us with the menu and my camera ;) How good is that! There are 3 restaurants in the village, I recommend you do all 3. Two of them are only 1 - 2 minutes walk from this great place. We would love to come back to this wonderful place when we next holiday in France. Dave, Julie, Mady and Isabella Hughes

A wonderful month

We have just returned to Australia after spending one month in this lovely house. My husband is blind and will be 94 very soon! The house is very well appointed with every thing you need accept a hand rail on the lower staircase. The main living area is great and to be able to open the doors onto the balcony and sit and watch the sunrise and or set and the way the river is flood lite at night is just beautiful. We went out every day to different villages and had some amazing meals. I think the three in Port de Gagnac would have to rate in the top 5 that we ate at. David and Caroline where excellent landlords and should there be a small problem they were there to fix it in no time. If we are fit enough we will return in Oct 2016 for another month. We just loved it. Thank you Caroline and David

You have a choice of two wonderful French Restaurants all within Port-De-Gagnac. The nearest two towns, both within 10 minutes are Beaulieu-Sur-Dordogne one of the most beautiful unspoilt medieval villages in France with 14th and 15th century houses. Here the dordogne provides fishing, canoeing, cycling, swimming and tennis. Bretenoux with a wonderful fresh produce market, busy bars, local produce shops and a large supermarkets. Location! Location!

You can relax and do very little or do a lot. It is situated so well, rural but within easy access of everything that you will need to enjoy a French Holiday. Set in a beautiful medieval village with good amenities. Perfect for keen walkers through the rolling hills and vine yards. There are so many sights to see and places to visit. Colonges La Rouge, Rocamadore, Castelnau Bretenoux an ancient fortress castle. Carenac, Laubressac, Autoire and Chateau de Montal (lovely golf Course) a remarkable renaissance near Bretenoux with museums of tapestries and paintings!
