Traditional Stone Houses With Pool And Hot tub,Lovely Views Over The Countryside - La Grange (Sleeps 5/6, 2 Bedrooms)

Overview

Property

Updated: 01-Nov-2016
House near Parthenay, Deux Sevres, Poitou- Charentes, France - Pool, hot tub and BBQ, Peaceful Location, Close To All Amenities

These holiday homes feature a shared superb 8mx 5m pool, a new Hot Tub and a lovely outdoor covered dining/sitting area with a newly renovated tiled terrace which is a real sun trap.

Lawns, flower beds and fruit trees surround both properties making it perfect for outdoor dining or, as there are plenty of sunbeds available for you why not just relax the day away on.

After the sun has gone down you can enjoy a glass of wine and sit and listen to the amazing chorus provided by the frogs in the nearby lake, just look up and see how brightly the stars shine at night here without the light pollution that it is so hard to escape from in today’s world. Whether you want to spend your holiday lazing in the sun or seeing true rural France this is the place for you.

The local area is a perfect place for walking, cycling, fishing, birdwatching and searching out the abundant wildlife. It is a fantastic place to visit from April all the way through till October because it has, on average, around 2400 hours of sunshine every year, second only to Provence and the Côte d' Azur! T-shirt weather in early November is not that uncommon and because it is largely undiscovered, we do not have the crowds of tourists that you will find in some of the other better known tourist regions in France. This secret area has conserved its tranquility and the unspoiled beauty of authentic rural France.

Even so, there are some excellent nearby restaurants or you can simply relax with a book or DVD, make the most of the rest you know you deserve and savour the delicious food and wonderful wines available locally.

There are plenty of options for days out.

Allonne is a small village with a 13th Century church and is surrounded by beautiful countryside. The village has a network of chemines (lanes) for walking or off road cycling, and is a great location for road cycling.

Secondigny (5kms) has a supermarket for shopping as well as a park with large lake for fishing and spotting the beaver-like coypu as well as pedaloes, an open air pool, cycle hire, children’s play area and a very popular restaurant overlooking the lake.

Maziere (12km - 16min) has an 18 hole golf course (Golf du Petit Chene) and there are two other courses less than an hour away.

Parthenay (9kms) is a mediaeval town with castle and winding cobbled streets with wooden houses. There is also a large shopping centre.

About 20 mins away is Argenton-les-Vallées with a beautiful lakeside restaurant, boating, kayaking, supermarket and international karting circuit. The large château town of Bressuire is 20 minutes’ drive with two hypermarkets, shops, restaurants, bowling and an international tennis club. Puy-de-Fou, Doué Zoo, Saumur, Le Cadre Noir (horse riding display) and Pescalis are 30-40 minutes’ drive. Within easy reach of the Vendée beaches for a day’s outing.

There are many nearby places of interest such as the medieval village of Vouvant with lovely views over the ancient ramparts, the forest of Mervent with walks, activity parks and large lake for swimming and boating, Mouilleron en Pareds - the birthplace of George Clemenceau, Bazoges en Pareds with its wonderful donjon (keep) and medieval garden, Fontenay le Comte, a rennaisance town and former capital of the Vendée. A little further away you will find the tranquil waterways of the Venise Verte and Puy du Fou - the amazing historical park of Vendée history.

Details for holiday home La Grange (Sleeps 5/6, 2 Bedrooms), 2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 6, 1 Bathroom, 1 Separate WC

Set on the edge of a tiny rural hamlet, this delightful, comfortably furnished, old stone farmhouse offers peace and quiet together with great views over unspoilt countryside. According to older residents of the hamlet, before it became a home, La Grange was used as a meeting place for the Resistance during WWII. It still has lots of character with its exposed stone walls, original beams and stone fireplace in a typical French style farmhouse kitchen. We also provide some modern home comforts with satellite(Freeview) flat screen TV as well as a dvd/video player (selection provided free of charge) .

There is a large double bedroom and a triple mezzanine bedroom available, both with original beams and exposed stone walls.

The back door from the kitchen opens out onto a small private courtyard. The patio door leads to a secluded sunny garden with a table and chairs and a large BBQ.

Living room is large and sunny with exposed stone walls and wood burning stove.

About the Owner

We live in Preston, Lancashire and travel over to our houses at La Tritire as often as we can.During many happy holidays in France with our 3 daughters , we often talked (over a glass of wine!) about buying a house there and 8 years ago we decided to take the plunge and do it.

We have spent lots of time at our 2 houses with family and friends, but have also had 7 successful summers renting out through Owners Direct.

Très belle propriété

  • 4 of 5

Location

From the Owner

We bought Le Gite and La Grange because we loved them for their traditional feel and for the stunning views from the gardens. It also helped that they are in one of the sunniest regions of France! The houses are within easy distance of many interesting towns and attractions, but let you get a feel for an area of France that isn't spoiled by excessive tourism.

Activity and Interests

Just over 1 hour drive will take you to the famous resort of La Rochelle, with its old harbour area and Ile de Re with its beautiful beaches. A bit further afield, are the beaches of Les Sables D'Olonne and Royan.

The larger town of Niort and historic Poitiers provide more extensive shopping. There are plenty of interesting places to visit. The Marais-Poitevin is a beautiful area with a maze of waterways where you can hire punts. Many of the magnificent chateaux of the Loire Valley are accessible for a day trip and 1 hours drive will take you to the lovely towns of Saumur and Thouars, both well worth a visit. The Theme Parks of Futuroscope and Puy du Fou are about 1 hour drive. The Valley of Apes (Valle des Singes) in Romagne is a great day out, especially for the children. A visit to La Rochelle is a must for its beaches, old harbour and excellent places to eat and drink, with street entertainers on summer nights.

A bit further afield you can visit Cognac, tour the distilleries and take a trip on the river. The ancient town of Saintes provides an interesting day out. There are plenty of outdoor activities to take part in including karting and horse riding. Mervent provides opportunities for lots of outdoor activities including kayaking and canoeing on the large lake. The pretty village of Vouvant nearby is worth a stop on the journey home with two lovely restaurants.

Facilities

From the Owner

We love that our properties are in a pretty, rural area but supermarkets, restaurants, shops and banks are within easy distance at Secondigny or Parthenay. A big selling factor for us when we were house-hunting was the pool and hot tub and I hope that they will persuade you to rent from us! Relaxing in the hot-tub, on a warm evening, with a starry sky above you is hard to beat!
