Villa in Restabal, Lecrin Valley, Granada, Spain - Peaceful Village Between Granada And The Costa Tropical
Casa Tagomago is situated high above the traditional terraces sloping down to the Rio Santo and Lake Beznar. From this privileged position on the edge of the village, every room in the villa, as well as the patio and the roof terrace, enjoys the same panoramic views. For a family, a group of friends or just a couple, Casa Tagomago offers the opportunity of a relaxing pool side holiday, as well as visits to Granada and all its wonders. Walks in the Valley or in Sierra Nevada National Park, swimming or sailing on La Costa Tropical are other options. Jaen, Almeria and Malaga are easily accessible. Don't forget the many hours of sun or the Tapas! Restábal is an ideal base for visiting Granada all year round, because of a micro climate, the Lecrín Valley has somewhat cooler summers and more temperate winters than the city itself.
Inside the house: Groundfloor.
Open plan downstairs living room - dining room, round dining table, seating 8. Wood burning stove and comfortable sofa and armchairs, WiFi and TV. Large French doors give access to the patio and pool (2.5m x 3.5m appx.)
Fully equipped kitchen, with door onto the patio and window overlooking pool. Electric oven and ceramic hob. Large fridge freezer.
Bedroom with double bed, built in wardrobe and french window opening onto the patio and pool area.
Downstairs shower/wet room, thermostatically controlled shower, wc. Suitable for guests with impaired mobility.
Separate utility room with dishwasher, washing machine, microwave. Plenty of storage space. Iron and ironing board.
2 large electric water heaters. Door onto the street.
First floor sitting room/reading room, equipped with digital/satellite TV and DVD player. Board games and books. Comfortable double sofa bed with sprung mattress. Balcony overlooking the patio.
Two bedrooms, both with twin beds, built in wardrobes and shelving, each with its own balcony overlooking the pool.
Family bathroom with bath/shower over, wc, bidet. Built in shelving. Hair drier.
One of our main objectives when restoring the house was to make the patio as spacious as possible, to be able to enjoy the small pool (3.5m x 2.5m appx.) with its fountain. With two sets of table and chairs, loungers, a large parasol and the BBQ, it is ideal for sunbathing and relaxing, as well as having space for 'al fresco' dining, under the pergola, with the Lecrin Valley and Sierra Nevada as a spectacular backdrop. The roof terrace has its own table, chairs, loungers and parasol, as well as the barbecue. Ideal for hot summer evenings or warm winter days. We enjoy having our breakfast on the patio, even in March.

Top Traveller Review
Although cooler than in Granada itself, the summer in the Lecrín Valley is hot....however, with the walls on the groundfloor of the house measuring around a metre in thickness, it is easy to keep the house cool. Again location plays a big part in this as the house faces east, benefitting from cooling breezes.
Thank you for choosing Casa Tagomago and we sincerely hope to see you again in the Lecrín Valley.

We are just now packing up for our flight home from Barcelona after two lovely weeks in Spain. I wanted to let you know that Casa Tagomago and Restabal were the highlights of this trip. It all started with your hospitality via the written word and never stopped being great! Your house was amazing, so beautiful and well appointed.
Benito - July 2013 - liked "The good organization of key collection and friendly reception. The layout and decor of the house as well as the cleanliness. The tranquility of the Valley and the proximity of other villages. A very pleasant stay, we will be back".
Angela - October 2012 - "The house was beautifully appointed and exceeded our expectations. It was just heavenly for me to get up in the morning and sit with a cup of tea watching the sun come up,followed by a nice dip. The shops and the amenities in Restábal were perfect and we purchased and ate the most delicious local food and everyone made us so welcome and they were really kind and helpful as were the girls who welcomed us".

We enjoyed our visit of Casa Tagomago. Restabal is a small town but a great place to experience Spanish life away from tourists. The home was comfortable and relaxing. Being Americans, we were worried that the lack of air conditioning would be a problem but we were fine with the fans, even when the temperature hit the 90s. All of the towns in the area offer a great restaurants and hiking trails. It is easy to get into Granada and to the beach. We would highly recommend a visit to this town and house.
A Quiet and Comfortable House near Granada.
This is a comfortable and well equipped house in a quiet village in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. It has views across the valley and is set in an untouched village close to Granada and other scenic destinations like the nearby spa town of Lanjaron. There are lovely walks which start from your front door. On our first night we attended a solemn Procession in the adjacent village, Melegis, and then enjoyed the fireworks from the patio of Casa Tagomago.
The owner is very informative and helpful as are her agents, Viasur. A special thanks to Maria-jose! There are good facilities in Restabal itself and a large Mercador supermarket a few minutes drive away.
Casa Tagomago is an ideal place for easy access to Granada but is, itself, a place of rest, comfort and of village charm.
Thanks to Susan and Viasur for a very enjoyable stay!
Lovely village house with far reaching views.
The house is in a small whitewashed village, we could walk to the supermarket each morning for fresh bread and sit on the terrace for breakfast enjoying beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and valley below. It's very well equipped for self catering and well maintained. Susan and the management company were always available to answer any questions we had. The master bedroom is large with twin beds and plenty of storage, whilst the other bedrooms where smaller with a small amount of clothes storage each. There was always plenty of high pressure hot water. The plunge pool was a perfect cool down in August. And we could get to Granada or the beach within 30mins. The village has a couple of small restaurants, however we preferred to drive to nearby villages (5-15 mins away) for better al fresco options. Overall a great, comfortable house with an amazing position in a traditional Andalusian mountain village.
Well equipped rural home with stunning views
Everything about Casa Tagomago was wonderful, from the well equipped kitchen and dining areas to the spectacular views across the Lecrin Valley. We soon fitted into to village life, a hike in the morning, either in Valley or further afield into the Sierra Navadas, then returning mid afternoon to enjoy lazy afternoons on the patio relaxing in the sun or under the shaded pagoda, An early evening stroll to Bar Jovi with their ice cold beers, tasty tapas and good banter and conversation with the staff and clientele, followed by an alfresco dinner back at Casa Tagomago - paradise.
Make sure you visit Pico del Valeta at the summit of Europes highest road (3398 metres). We drove best part of the way and hiked the rest. Fabulous views and great walking. (We watched many cyclists braving the ascent for a well earned drink at one of the few cafés near the summit).
We We highly recommend Bar Jovi and their adjoining restaurant Meson la Despensa del Valle, the tapas are the best we've had anywhere. Pre-order the slow baked leg of lamb (24 hours notice) for a sensational dinner in the traditional and atmospheric restaurant.
We definitely hope to return.
lovely village house
This is a lovely house in the quiet village of Restabal. The rural location is great, and the views from the house are superb. It's extremely well-equipped, perhaps the best equipped rental place we have been to. The house is spread over two floors plus a roof terrace - which would be lovely in summer but at Easter when we visited, the wind was too cold to sit up there! The owner Susan could not have been more helpful through the whole booking process, she replied promptly to every email and sent us lots of detailed and helpful information about the house, Restabal and the surrounding area. Restabal itself is a very quiet place; whilst we were there we ate out at La Despensa Dell Valle, a couple of minutes' stroll from the house, the food was good (try their homemade desserts) and the staff very friendly. The agency that handles the guests was based in the next village and were extremely friendly and helpful, and spoke excellent English. One thing to note is that it is not possible to park at the house as it is along a narrow pedestrian street. However you can get to a tiny square about 30 seconds' walk from the house to unload your luggage, and then there is ample free parking next to the church for the duration of your stay. At the moment we are unable to manage long or steep walks, but it only took us 5 minutes each morning to make the gentle uphill stroll to the car - anyone of normal mobility would manage it in a couple of minutes. We recommend staying here.
From the Owner
“We decided to buy a house on the mainland in 2005, 4 years before retiring. We chose Granada as it is a very "manageable" city with such a wide cultural offer, as well as having so much enchantment for us. When we first arrived in the Lecrin Valley to house hunt we were captivated by the countryside and the villages. The situation is absolutely ideal for us, as it is such a novelty to be able to tour around to so many wonderful places within such easy reach from the house, after so many years of living on a small (and beautiful) island. So now we have the best of both worlds. We thoroughly enjoyed the restoration work on the house, which we have tried to make as welcoming as possible. We certainly love spending time there, at any time of the year and hope that our visitors enjoy it as much.”
Activity and Interests
Special interest holidays:
We belong to the local tourist association - Granada Rural Sur - and are in touch with local businesses offering a wide range of activities in the Valley. If you are interested in horse riding tours of the valley, guided walks, treks in the mountains, canyoning, bungee jumping, paintball, cookery, spa treatments, wine tasting or Spanish classes then just drop us a line for more details. We shall be delighted to help.
The beaches of Motril and Salobrena are about 30 minutes by car. Salobrena is a particularly attractive village high on a rock on the coast, with a wonderful Moorish castle, well worth a visit, and with long sandy beaches, and excellent restaurants, serving fish and rice dishes. Information in the house. Almunecar and Nerja are not far away, the journey made shorter by the new road. Nerja has a good car boot sale every Sunday. There are more beaches worth visiting all along the Costa Tropical.
Most of the international flights arrive at Malaga airport about 1 hour 30 minutes away.
As a car is essential we can recommend good and reasonable car hire at both airports. Please contact us for suggestions on getting the best deal.
The three bars and two restaurants, the baker and the shops in the village are within a few hundred metres walk from the house. Melegis is 15 minutes walk and Saleres about 30 minutes. Durcal, 10 minutes drive, has larger shops, and an excellent market on Wednesdays. The spa town of Lanjaron, "the Gateway to La Alpujarra" is 20 minutes away. Granada is only 30 minutes away. Jaen is about 1 hour and 45 minutes drive and Malaga 1 hour and 20 minutes. Almería is just under 2 hours, soon to be nearer when the motorway is completed later this year.
Restábal also boasts a chemist and a tobaccanist. All the villages are visited daily by the local bakers, butchers, fishmongers etc selling their goods from their vans. Apart from visiting the picturesque white villages in the Lecrin Valley, there are a wealth of other worthwhile excursions. A visit to the Alhambra, in Granada, is not to be missed, as well as a wander round the narrow streets of the Albaicin and the Realejo. Cultural activities are continuous, with concerts, plays and the wonderful dance festival in June each year, high on the list. Not to mention the Cathedral and museums. Tapas of course are the best way to taste the cuisine in Granada, and there are a number of Moroccan tea rooms (teterias), serving all sorts of teas and delicious little cakes. There are also several well known department stores in the city, and the Alcaiceria, an Arab market, with intriguing stalls.
Jaen is also a very interesting city, with an imposing cathedral and the castle of Santa Catalina dominating the whole city. A visit to La Alpujarra is a really special way to spend a day, a typical mountain road leads one along the southern side of the Sierra Nevada up into the mountains and the villages of Capileira, Pampaneira, Bubion and Trevelez, just to name a few, with their unique architecture, captivating scenery and mountain cuisine.
Back to the Valley and almost on our doorstep we have the GR7/E4 walking route, the whole area is a walkers paradise, and botanical and ornithological enthusiasts will also find plenty to interest them, both in the Valley and in Sierra Nevada. Fiestas in Andalucia are always a treat, with something for everyone to enjoy. Local people are very friendly to visitors, and are delighted when they join in with the festivities. More details of all these activities are in the house book, including booking details for La Alhambra, always best to book in advance, specially in high season.
