Apartment in Torrox Costa, Costa del Sol, Spain - Superb Location Opposite Beach

La Canada del Barco is a small complex built around the 2 swimming pools (one a children's pool) and gardens; opposite El Penoncillo beach it provides an ideal setting for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Currently, it is the custom of the Spanish to close community pools mid September. The complex is set back from the coast road which gives easy access, via the motorway to Malaga, Granada, Gibraltar etc. Torrox Costa is within easy walking distance and Nerja is 5 mins away by car. Local attractions include the Nerja Caves, the National Park and Lake Vinuela and local markets. A few steps away from the apartment there is an excellent choice of restaurants and cafes (sun beds can be hired from those on the beach). You can eat out on the balcony and enjoy the afternoon and evening sun whilst looking down at the pool or towards the sea or mountains inland. There is air conditioning / heating throughout the apartment and the windows have shutters which are useful for keeping the apartment cool in summer and keeping the light out when required. Electric sockets in the apartment have safety covers.

We have been Spanish residents since 2007 when We moved from the UK following our early retirement! Our first grandchild, Emily(our pride and joy), was born in March 2010 and regularly enjoys visits to 'Granny Spain'.

Why Marion Talbot chose Torrox

Our first visit to Nerja was in August were enchanted and so decided to have look at some properties... 'just a look mind' said Tony. La Canada,in Torrox Costa, was the third property we saw and we knew it was for us! We love the area as it offers so much National Park is on the doorstep ,with its many walks; there are places to visit, a wide selection of sports,shopping opportunities and great beaches to relax on. The Spanish are friendly and courteous and very welcoming. When we retired we knew that Spain was where we wanted to be and so made the permanent move; we kept La Canada and still use it ourselves when we don't have lettings. We endeavour to help clients have an enjoyable holiday in our comfortable apartment which we maintain to a high standard. This year the two bathrooms have been decorated and a shower enclosure installed in the shower room.

What makes this apartment unique

La Canada is within easy reach of beaches, shops and restaurants and it is possible to have a good holiday without hiring a car. There is an excellent bus service along the coast. In addition to all the usual activities it is possible to play bridge most days of the we are guilty! Our apartment is wheel chair friendly and the complex has ramps and lifts making access easy for all. It is also suitable for children of all ages. The weather is excellent which is why so many 'snowbirds' come to enjoy the winter months here.

We have U.K. televison so visitors can keep up with their favourite programmes.

Notes on accommodation: No smoking permitted in the apartment. The complex is gated and secure and suitable for small children; the pool is only accessible via a gate (key necessary). There is on street parking but garage space can be hired if required. Outside: Balcony with views to the sea and overlooking the swimming pool and gardens. Patio table with 4 chairs, cushions and parasol. Communal pool, children's pool and playground, gardens. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels (not beach towels) and linen are included and changed weekly. The property is cleaned between lets or during stay by arrangement. Other: Small entrance hall with entry-phone and double cupboards.

Great apartment in lovely location

We stayed in this apartment for 2 weeks end of June. Its very well equipped, with comfortable beds and has a lovely balcony overlooking the pool with side views to sea. The pool and surrounding garden is well looked after. Wifi cost us 28 euros for the 2 weeks. Shops and the main Torrox promenade are a short walk away. The local village Torrox is a nice place for eating and drinking. Nerja was lovely but quite busy and inland towns of Frigliana, Velez Malaga and Sobriano all worth taking a walk around. Further afield we went to Granada and to the Alhambra - well worth a visit. Best to book ahead though. For the energetic cyclist our son went out every morning up into the mountains or along the coast, he had a great time culminating in a cycle ride up and down the Sierra Nevada. We later did it in the car and it was great for the views. We had a lovely holiday, combining village visits with relaxing on the beaches when it was to hot. On our arrival Marion met us ( remember to hoot loudly!) and showed us around. She also provided a range of food and drink items which were very welcome. We would recommend Marions apartment for a great holiday.

Nice tidy property overlooking the pool in a lovely safe apartment complex.

We were greeted by the owner, Marion who showed us around the apartment which had all the things needed for self catering. We were happy to find that the settee in the lounge area was a double bed settee so my sister was able to avoid listening to my snoring when she visited for a few days.

The pool is accessed using a key provided and is patrolled by a life guard during the summer months which made our time there feel more secure. At siesta time 3pm, all Spanish residents leave until 5pm so this is a really nice quiet time around the pool when we were able to get out inflatables out. They are not allowed when busy.

My children met 2 other English children and they had a brilliant time together. Most other residents are Spanish and create a lively atmosphere in the complex at night which is nice to listen to from the balcony into the night.

We had a lovely time here. My only little niggle was the old air conditioning which the lowest temp was 19 degrees but to be honest it didn't spoil our time here.

Great value for money, small supermarket nearby but be-careful the shop owner doesn't over charge but handy for any essentials. The Lidl is a short drive away is much better value.

The beach is only across the road with a nice beach restaurant. You can walk to the promenade but young children may find it a bit tiring. We drove the second time.

Overall a very pleasant relaxing stay.

Property was clean a good size and the owner was friendly and helpful

Great apartment for the 4 of us, good location close to the beach but with great on site facilities.

We were meet by the owner on our late arrival after midnight, she was able to show is the ins and outs quickly.

Unfortunately the air con was not working properly but the following morning Marion called with the offer of getting some fans to make our stay more pleasant, this was a great thing and the fans made all the difference for us.

I will be looking at availability of this property next time we are traveling over to spain for our holidays

Perfect family apartment

This is the fourth or fifth time we have stayed at La Canada in Torrox and we can safely and genuinely say that it is the perfect apartment for a family holiday on the Costa del Sol in Spain. The location is superb - directly across the road from the beach, very close to shops and the promenade in Torrox. It is also a short drive to nearby Nerja, Velez Malaga and only 40 minute drive from Malaga and Malaga airport. We absolutely love this apartment, the apartment itself has everything you need. All mod cons, a balcony with table and chairs and umbrella over looking the gorgeous pool. There is a large pool with a shallow and deep end and also a baby/toddler pool as well. The pool is well kept and there are life guards during the high season. As part of the rental, we have full access to the pool which stays open until 9pm in the summer months. This apartment is great as a base for exploring further afield and also great if you simply want a beach holiday (which we normally do) but has enough nearby to entertain the whole family. Our recommendations are the little cafe in front of the apartment, Lidl or Aldi for shopping, Nerja for a different scene, and the Torrox promenade for evening strolls and ice creams. Our favorite restaurant in Torrox is by the light house but we don't know the name of it. It's a local venue frequented by the Spanish. Just off the main road there is a left turning to go up to the lighthouse and where you can park. It's on the left side before you walk down to the promenade. Actually, any of those local Spanish restaurants are very good - non touristy and authentic Spanish food. Going back to the apartment, Marion is very communicative and responsive and the apartment is incredibly good value for money. We wholly and highly recommend it. Thanks so much Marion!

Cosy, friendly, close to the beach, nice pool

We had a good time in the apartment. Marion was friendly and helpful and made our stay as comfortable as possible.

The apartment is safe and has everything. Wifi has to be paid extra as it is provided as additional service. The rates are reasonable.

beautiful apartment by the sea

We had an absolutely beautiful holidays in Torrox. The apartment was clean in the best location. Everything is nearby , shops , restaurants and most important the sea - just across the road . We have two kids and they loved the swimming pool , it was clean and very well maintained, girls made a lots of friends there , and they used to spend whole day in swimming pool .The balcony is facing the pool so you can keep eye on kids , also you have a beautiful view to the see from the balcony , and fresh breeze coming from the see makes very pleasant to sit in the balcony and have a glass of wine . The complex has a security gates so you don't have to worry about anything . Kitchen has everything you need , bathroom and shower is very clean. Clean bed sheets and towels are provided , and the beds are very comfortable . We managed visit a lots of places , like Nerja caves , Granada , Cordoba , Malaga and all because of perfect location of the complex , all those places are not too far away from Torrox costa . We loved staying in this property, and at last I should mention the owner of the property Marion , lovely lady , who was very helpful right from the beginning , we arrived very late , she was waiting for us in the flat , and she bought some food for us , some coffee , tea , croissants , bottle of wine etc . Marion thank you very much for your hospitality , you are a lovely lady and you have a beautiful apartment , that we would highly recommend to everybody , a specially to the families with the kids , this complex is AMAZING !!!!

The beach is across the road from the complex and there is a light controlled crossing. There are several good beach cafes and many are open during the winter months. The beach at Torrox Costa with its long promenade is within walking distance or a 2 min drive away and Nerja's beaches are only short drive away.


Malaga is the nearest airport and is a 40 min drive away (approx). Car hire is recommended but there is shuttle bus from the airport to Malaga bus station and a regular service to Torrox Costa. Pick up by taxi can be arranged. Locally there is a good bus service.


Torrox Costa is within walking distance or a 2 min drive away with banks, many shops, supermarkets, restaurants and cafes. There is a small supermarket close to the complex and several restaurants within walking distance.

Further Details:

The area has facilities for water sports, horse riding and fishing, petanque and short mat bowling. There is a good road to the ski resorts of the Sierra Nevada and it is easily possible to drive there for a day's skiing. Beach buggies can be hired locally. There are numerous walks of varying levels of difficulty and details are available from the local tourist office. There are many attractions within driving distance, including the Alhambra, Nerja Caves, the National Park, Gibraltar, Torrox Pueblo and the "Lost Village" of Acbuchal to name a few. There are several bridge clubs in the area where English is spoken and guests welcome. Malaga itself is well worth a visit as there are many historic sights to visit and also a wealth of museums.
