About Allan Garden

Hi my name is Allan Garden, this is our holiday home in France. I enjoy spending as much time of the year as possible here. Each month looks different and the seasons dictate the different wildlife plants that can be seen. The locals are very friendly and we have made many friends in the area. We would like to share these experiences with families who wish to stay and appreciate the culture and beauty of the area.

Allan Garden purchased this cottage in 2003

Why Allan Garden chose Tramain

We bought the house in 2003 from friends who had bought it from a French family in 1981. At that time the lounge area was the only habitable room which had an earth floor and a small stove where the log fire is now. The family consisted of 1 daughter of 20 with her mother and father. The only water supply was a stand pipe in the stable which is on the left of the photograph and is now a fully fitted kitchen. The shed at the rear was the cow shed and there is still evidence of cattle being kept there and rings on the wall to keep them in place. The area to the right of the building is where the pigs used to be kept and the only remaining evidence of this building is the front wall and marks on the main building wall where the roof used to be attached. It is now a very comfortable home.

What makes this cottage unique

The property is close to the picturesque village of Tramain which is convenient for a small shop/bar to purchase the essential baguette and croissant in the morning. There is also evidence of country life on the door step as you walk or cycle down the quiet country lanes. You can see Deer, cows, donkeys, chickens, rabbits, sheep and hares as you explore the countryside. All this is very relaxing away from the hustle and bustle of city life back in the UK. The sky on a clear night is free from the reflection of city lights and you get a wonderful view of the constellations, a must for any keen star gazer. Close by is Jugon les Lacs, a vibrant little town with a beautiful lake where you can fish, sail or picnic. An indoor and outdoor pool can be found by the lake.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Graham Smith Birmingham - Kids enjoyed the garden. Comfortable accommodation just sat and watched the world go by. July 2008.

Mark Durbidge S.Wales - Thank you for allowing us to stay in your brilliant, well equipped Gite. Home from home! We thoroughly enjoyed the good weather and our days out to St Malo, Dinan, Le Mont-St -Michel and the zoo parc at La Bourbansais. We found the beaches superb at Le Val-Andre, Erquy, Sables-d'or-Les-Pins and St Lunaire, a credit to the area! Your directions to the Gite were excellent. We enjoyed the many walks at night along the country roads around Tramain which took us full circle back to the Gite. We also appreciated the local farmers doing their harvesting. A big thank you from us all. We only wish that we could have brought some of the weather back with us! Stephen Susan Huck.

Notes on accommodation: Brittany property has electric central heating and log fire. Normal usage of electricity is included in the price however a charge may be made if the units used are excessive. A meter reading will be taken before and after the let. This cottage in Brittany has been our holiday home for 7 years and we have tried to keep the ambiance of this Breton cottage during its renovation. The cottage itself is in a very quiet area along country lanes and in the countryside. Brittany itself has everything you need from sandy beaches to historic towns and villages. Tramain is within easy distance of Dinard airport, St Malo port or 1 hour 45 minutes from Caen or Roscoff, 2hours from Cherbourg. Beaches are 25 minutes away at Val Andre and St Cast and superb golf courses. De stress here for 7 or 14 days, as we have people returning year after year. Outside: Large grassed lawned area surrounded by fields on 2 sides, ideal for games like football, boules, badminton etc. Garden furniture sufficient for 8 people, parasol, sunloungers, bbq. Walk the area along the quiet country roads of Brittany it is fairly flat so it is an easy walk. Railway line close by giving occasional noise. Cycling is a great way to explore the area as well so bring your bikes. Jugon Les Lacs is a pretty Breton village swamped in flowers and hanging baskets with banks and several excellent restaurants. The lake is a must to visit with sailing and windsurfing. Lamballe is the large town close by with its weekly market and larger supermarkets to stock up on the wine and fresh sea food. Brittany does have it all for that relaxing getaway. Visit Le Mont St Michel a 45 minute drive but go early in summer months as it gets very busy. St Malo `s walled city near the port is also a great day out. And then Dinan with its medieval architecture and weekly market. Utility Room: Integrated into the kitchen a washing machine is available for use by our holiday makers. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The property is thoroughly cleaned PRIOR to your arrival and if you encounter problems our caretaker is on hand to deal with any issues promptly. Linen and towels are included in the price. Other: Ideal location for a relaxing, destressing holiday. Everybody who has visited have left very complimentary comments some of which are available on our own (link below) with more photos.

Relaxing And Cosy Country Cottage

  • 4 of 5

The large country kitchen and exposed beams were welcoming. The cottage is clean and tidy the 3 large bedrooms and 2 bathrooms were ideal. The open log fire great to come into after an evening walk. We had some fun bike rides to local shops and restaurant. It was a short drive to larger historic towns. A visit to Mont St Michel is a must such a lovely place. We have been twice and looking forward to going again

Charming authentic rural French escape

  • 5 of 5

Loved this pretty french farmhouse, great for exploring Brittany and for walks to the surrounding area. Shop, post office and a couple of restaurants within walking distance. Village of Jurgen le Lac a short drive away for bar and restaurant, Danone and Dinard both nearby and well worth a visit.

Cottage clean, charming, all the facilities you need with a spacious kitchen, large lounge with beams and a log fire, great place to get away from it all without being completely isolated.

We will definitely be going back.
