Character Cottage With Riverside Setting And Views To Medieval Dinan

Updated: 15-Aug-2016
Cottage in Lehon, Nr Dinan, Brittany - Cotes D'Armor, France - Tranquil Location In Historic Lehon With Enclosed Garden

Originally the coach house to the neighbouring medieval hunting lodge, 6 le Pavillon is a charming house recently renovated yet maintaining its original character. With its peaceful location on the edge of picturesque Lehon, a 'Petite Cite de Charactere', with its 9th century Abbey and Norman Castle, and only 200m from the River Rance, it has much to offer without needing to use the car. All the family can enjoy the local open air pool in Lehon and walking or cycling along the tranquil towpath to the beautiful old Port of Dinan where you can walk up to the medieval town with its cobbled streets and half timbered houses. The enclosed garden to the front and terrace to the rear catch the sun all day long, with views of the castle and abbey of Lehon and the spires of Dinan visible in the distance. Many beautiful beaches are also within easy reach, including Dinard, St Malo and Cancale, with its famous seafood restaurants. Bar, restaurant and boulangerie within walking distance.

About the Owner

I live in the West Country with my husband and three children. We spent a year in Britany a few years ago so that the whole family could learn french, and immerse ourselves in a new culture. (the children did rather better than we did at the former, having gone to the local school). We loved every minute. Our excuse for going was to find and renovate a house out there and we think we found a gem.

Cleanliness and maintenance of property poor location and surrounding area excellent

  • 2 of 5

Location excellent, large back garden sun all day front garden needs some maintenance as it is blocking out natural light to downstairs rooms which are in need of some TLC.Plenty of hot water for large family.

Property was poorly presented in terms of cleanliness and maintenance I have written to the owner highlighting some the problems.

I would not recommend the property to a relatives or friends owing the cleanliness maintenance issues.

Great location small restaurant in the village worth a visit.Walkig distance to Dinan Town and Port

Delightful cottage close to Dinan. Well heated with central heating and quite comfortable. The furniture in the lounge was a bit old and lumpy, but other than that everything else was fine. Would have found a microwave useful.

Normally able to walk into Dinan along La Rance but on this occasion one footpath was closed for maintenance and the other because of flooding!

All in all a lovely place to stay.

We have been going to this part of Britany for 15 years, having been lucky enough to have use of my parents house in the same area. We couldn't resist the opportunity to buy one for ourselves. The area is great for adults and children alike, with a stunning coastline beaches, beautiful cities, peaceful villages and lots of opporunities for walking, cycling, boating of all kinds, soaking up the culture, and relaxing. The city of Dinan itself is truly one of the loviest small cities in Britany. The views from the raparts down to the gorgeous old Port are stunning.

From the Owner

The house is in a very peaceful location right by the river Rance, with views of Lehon castle ruins and the spires of Dinan. It is fantastic for walking and cycling straight from the house along the tow path to the wonderful medieval walled city of Dinan; and the medieval village of Lehon, where the cottage is situated, with its narrow cobbled streets, Abbey, Castle, restaurant, bar and bakery, is a extremely characterful. There is a large open air swimming pool in the village, and many beautiful beaches are an easy car ride away. It has been recently and tastefully renovated, but retains great charm and character.
