Travel:

A car is essential for visiting the area. The nearest airport to the house is Bergerac 30 minutes by car, where a car can be hired. There are many cheap flights from Britain to Bergerac (by Ryan Air, Flybe). Périgueux airport (with cheap flights from Paris) is a one hour drive approx Bordeaux airport a 2 hour drive, Toulouse airport 2.5 hours. Driving time from channel ports (Caen, Le Havre) is about 8 hours.

Distances:

Le Buisson de Cadouin with shops, doctor, pharmacy, post office and tourist office about 3km. Le Bugue, a lively larger village offering all amenities, 12km. Bergerac with a pretty town centre and many vineyards around the town about 30km. Périgueux 55km. The world famous town of Sarlat about 30 minutes by car, as well as Les Eyzies; Lascaux with its pre-historic cave paintings about 45 minutes. Bordeaux (and its beaches) about 2.5 hours. Further Details:

Colourful markets are held in all the surrounding villages; for exact information about days and location, please see the 'guest information folder' in the cottage. This folder also comprises information about tennis courts, canoe rental, horse riding, hot air ballooning etc, all near by, as well as leaflets about the many pre-historic and natural sites, museum, castles and châteaux and other tourist attractions such a outdoor adventure parks.

There are plenty of restaurants serving quality food and local wines in pleasant surrounding (for suggestions: see again 'guest information folder'). Throughout the Summer season several music festivals and cultural events are held (e.g. a mime festival in Périgueux, Bach in Belves in surrounding villages); a full program is available at the tourist office.

Dates and locations of car boot sales (vide-grenier), flee markets, antique sales and other festivals are often 'advertised' along the 'major' roads of the region or you can ask the tourist office about them. The tourist office can also supply you with directions for a tour along the châteaux and vineyards who open their doors for wine tasting. Gardeners will love a visit to the gardens ('jardins') of Cadiot (Carlux), d'Eyrignac (Salignac-Eyviques), Marqueyssac (Vézac) or 'les jardins de la Licorne (La Logerie haute, nearby Les Eyzies; visits can be arranged by the tourist office of Les Eyzies).
