About Gillian Weaver

My husband and I have lived in Dorset for 30 years and love the south west. We run our own company from home and also manage permanent lettings.

Gillian Weaver purchased this apartment in 2008

Why Gillian Weaver chose Truro & Falmouth area

We love Cornwall, having spent many happy holidays in our camper surfing and playing in the sea. We rented an apartment in Porthtowan when our niece held her wedding reception in the Blue Bar. We were so taken with the apartment that my husband left notes with all the apartments asking if they wanted to sell - 18 months later we got the call, wow, how lucky is that. Its a fabulous spot in an unspoiled area of Cornwall and yet still handy for many attractions.

What makes this apartment unique

The village of Porthtowan is small but has everything we need for a great holiday and, judging by the comments left by guests, you think so too.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We had a super week, apt comfy and we all managed to stay friends even with our 15 yr old sleeping on the sofa bed! It was great to be so close to the beach for BBQs. Liz".

"We were so pleased with the apt. It's absolutely gorgeous. despite the bad weather we couldn't help but have a great time. Its in such a great position, we just wandered down to the beach or to the blue bar. We would definitely love to use it again and will be recommending it. Mai".

"We were all very pleased with the accom and it's position. In fact my husband is keen for another short break there next year and he is hard to please! We visited several nearby places and our dog Millie was able to experience the beach at Perranporth which she loved... thanks, Katherine"

"Thank you so much, we had a fantastic week. Surfsounds was lovely and certainly lives up to it's name, the location is really wonderful. There was everything wanted for a week away & the milk and biscuits were very welcome." Deana

A little piece of heaven!

  • 5 of 5

With my selfish head on... I would say this was an awful place to stay, then hopefully not too many people would book and it would be easier for my next visit - but that would just be wrong. I spent the most rejuvenating and restful week at Surfsounds with my little Westie Arthur.

Gilly and Bob have created a small but perfectly formed apartment in the most heavenly location to escape from the strains and stresses of everyday life. Attention to detail is second to none and you will enjoy reading all the helpful little remarks dotted around the place. Lovely peaceful location with the most stunning coastline for walking and exploring.

Fish & Chips from the bay is a must, you WILL have to wait for them, but it's worth it!

If you fancy a little pampering, the Team at 'Beauty by the Beach' are lovely, but very busy, so worth looking into and booking ahead of your visit.

Small note: in the off season, you will need a good few £1 coins for the electric meter to keep everything running.

Owner's Response: Phew, went into minor panic when I read the first line of your review, then a big sigh of relief! Nice words and we thank you. We have the same problem going to Surfsounds ourselves, unless we book ourselves in ages in advance! It really is a magic part of Cornwall and so unspoilt...at least we think so. Thank you and we look forward to welcoming you back. Gilly & Bob

Fab, fab, fab

  • 5 of 5

Just wanted to say we (& our boys) absolutely loved our stay at Porthtowan. What a view! We had a fantastic week at your beautiful home. Everything was carefully and considerately labelled which really helped. Thanks for the milk and biscuits; they were a blessing when we arrived at gone 11pm. Everything was really well stocked and it was great not to have to run round for toilet rolls or kitchen roll. We want to book for next year!

Absolute beaut of a place with fantastic views.

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for the Christmas break and had an absolute fab time, the apartment was lovely when we arrived there, very cleaned and a Christmas tree and lights were put up for us which was very nice. The view from the living room is gorgeous especially when there's a sunrise and sunset and the location is close to alot of places to visit in cornwall. So overall were that pleased that we've already booked again for next year.

Comfortable, relaxing home. Great beach & sea view

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Surfsounds. As soon as you entered the property you could see into the apartment an inviting beach through the balcony windows. Already before that when you drive into the village and the car park adjacent to the apartment building you are greeted by the sight and sound of the beach and the sea! And what a wonderful beach and view – we can’t imagine ever tiring of it! It was great being in a home where everything was as one would want and it was obvious this apartment was being let by people who love this place as a home. All information provided was usefully pinned on a notice board in the kitchen, book and also very thoughtfully throughout the apartment there were helpful notices in just the right spots. Good wifi was provided too. Outside there was a storage box with body boards, some children’s beach toys and a wind breaker. The RNLI do a fantastic job during the season providing daily life guards (until end of Sept) and we used them for info about tides etc so that we could allow for plenty of time to walk along the beach (at low tide) to the cove/beach at Chapel Porth (national trust, with loos and small café) and back to Porthtowan. You can do the same walk by walking on top of the cliffs – vast views. We found the apartment and its setting so relaxing we didn’t really want to venture out and explore the rest of this part of Cornwall! People go here to surf whatever the weather it seems and this in itself is a great spectacle to behold from the comfort of the balcony or from inside.
