Cottages between Dingwall and Strathpeffer, Highlands, Scotland - Peaceful Location, Ideal Base for Exploring the Highlands

Fodderty Lodge is the ideal destination for a quiet self-catering holiday in the Highlands. Halfway between Strathpeffer and Dingwall, it is perfectly placed for exploring the whole of the North of Scotland: Ullapool and the West Coast can be reached in under an hour, driving on some of the most beautiful and empty roads in Scotland; Inverness is only 20 minutes away; Glen Affric and Loch Ness will take just over half an hour. Our 3 well-equipped cottages are geared to reflect the needs of non-smoking families, couples and singles. They are furnished to a high standard and all bed linen (100% cotton) is included. They each provide the perfect haven to relax in at the end of a day’s adventures in the Highlands. The surrounding area has much to recommend it. The bird watcher and nature lover will be thrilled with daily sightings of red kites. The Ross-shire Pathway Network passes the front gate so walkers are in their element too! Sorry no pets are allowed. Strictly no smoking, in or out

About the Owner

Mervyn and I returned to the Highlands after living overseas for most of our married life. Our three daughters are all grown up now but have always felt that the North of Scotland was 'home' and return often. We bought Fodderty Lodge in 2001 and our roots went deep and spread wide very quickly! It is in the middle of a wonderfully friendly area and even we were pleasantly surprised to discover just how accessible so many places of interest are. You can go North, South, East and West and will find exciting things to do in every direction. We have holidayed ourselves in many self-catering cottages, and have a very definite idea of what makes a Good holiday base, and what makes a Bad one! We hope that we make everyone who visits feel welcome in our special part of the world.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Our ninth visit to these parts and as with every visit, re-visiting favourite haunts as well as new places. The key to this successful formula is to have a comfy, well-equipped base to operate from and Lodge Barn and the facilities within never disappoint. It helped that the weather was good all week and glorious for over half. Our calls home to Yorkshire allowed us to gloat as it had been 'dull and rainy' most of the week there! One of our 'new' experiences was stopping at Sheildaig on the way back from Applecross and buying some fresh seafood from McIver Shellfish at Kenmore (look for the blue box)---- the best scallops and hot roast salmon ever! Another success this year was Dingwall Auction Mart, an interesting half hour in the ring, an excellent 'museum' upstairs and good grub at very reasonable prices.

Location

From the Owner

Fodderty Lodge enjoys a rural location, but is still only 20 minutes from the small city of Inverness (the capital of the Highlands). There are theatres, restaurants, cinemas, swimming pools etc within easy reach. Dingwall, with shops and supermarkets, is only a couple of miles away as is the Victorian spa village of Strathpeffer. There are many walks around and golfing and fishing are closeby. It is a nature lover's paradise.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Fodderty Lodge accommodation is adaptable for one, two or three generations. We operate a very strict no smoking, and no guest pet policy throughout the cottages and grounds. We have our own two dogs: a 7 year old yellow Labrador boy and a 7 year old West Highland White girl. They are very friendly, but are never, ever, allowed in the cottages, so guests with pet hair allergy know that they will be OK. The dogs' mission is to chase, but never catch, the many rabbits that have made Fodderty Lodge their home! Outside: Fodderty Lodge cottages each have their own garden areas, but guests are always welcome to walk around the entire grounds and enjoy the varied wildlife contained therein. Each cottage has its own dedicated heavy duty picnic bench / table and several additional folding garden chairs for use in the garden as well as when out touring.
