Casa Carlo is a charming cottage farmhouse commanding magnificent uninterrupted views of rolling hills and the distant Sybillini mountains. A short distance from a quiet road connecting the two medieval hilltop towns of Penna san Giovanni and Monte san Martino, it is almost hidden from view providing a tranquil, secluded rural setting with its own young olive grove and spacious gardens. The large sun terrace overlooks the pool which has Roman steps and in-built jacuzzi. Penna is a 2 minute drive away and provides all facilities including bars, restaurant, pharmacy, butcher, baker, newsagent, bank and supermarket. The main house has two double bedrooms and a bunk room upstairs.There is a double bed-settee in the garden room. There is an upstairs bathroom with shower and a further one on the ground floor. In addition, a self contained studio for two situated below the sun terrace has its own fitted kitchen and bathroom with shower. Large patio doors from the studio open directly to the pool. The main house has a separate well-equipped kitchen, utility room (with dishwasher, fridge/freezer and washing machine), dining room and sitting room. I-pod docking stations and DVD player are provided with a varied collection of DVDs, books and games. Double doors from the garden room open directly onto the sun terrace offering amazing views of the mountains.

About Andrew and Elaine Parkin

Andrew is retired GP and Elaine a retired teacher. We have a son and a daughter, both married. They have both given us a grandson apiece and Harry and George keep us busy during our retirement. The whole family now spend some very happy times at Casa Carlo.

Why Andrew and Elaine Parkin chose Macerata

We discovered Le Marche (described as 'The New Tuscany') in a magazine article. We took several stories about Le Marche in The Times Travel to be a sign that we should visit, but weren't prepared for the sheer beauty of the place and instantly fell in love with it. It has so much to offer with beaches, mountains, opera, good wine, excellent cuisine all at reasonable prices and remains relatively undiscovered. The wonderful Marchiaganians are friendly and helpful and have made us feel so welcomed. When Carlo Bellabarba needed to sell to move in with his daughter it provided us with the perfect opportunity to buy the house with one of the best views in Italy. The moment we walk through the gate instant relaxation sets in and lifes worries disappear into the blue Italian skies.

Notes on accommodation: Garden room with sofa bed has a beamed,sloping roof. Some hanging space for clothes here and drawers. Double bedrooms are a good size with hanging space for clothes and drawers. Both have hair dryers. Bunk bedroom is small and suitable for children. Has clothes hanging space and shelves. There is a solar powered pool side shower to wash off sun cream. Spacious apartment with exposed original stone, has a wardrobe with hanging shelves. Hair dryer provided. Apartment is on one level with a walk-in shower. It has double glass doors overlooking the pool. Side windows look towards Monte San Martino. Outside: A short private drive leads to the house with ample parking for 2-3 cars with an adjacent grassy bank shaded by mature olive and mulberry trees. Outside the front door is an enclosed patio which is shaded until midday. The large sun terrace facing south-west offers splendid views of Monte san Martino and the mountains beyond. It is the perfect spot for outdoor dining at the large wooden table and has ample room for sun loungers. In front of the house is a large garden area. Solar lit gazebo outside the lounge is curtained. Steps lead down past the fragrant herb garden (help yourself) to the studio apartment and attractively shaped pool. The pool is entered by Roman steps with jacuzzi, has a solar heated shower and is surrounded by lavender and a grassy area for sun bathing. A gazebo sheltered by the walls of the old pig sty offers an opportunity for alfresco dining. Below the pool is a shaded woodland area with hammock. Further tables, chairs, sun loungers and umbrellas are provided. Utility Room: Utility room off kitchen with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, combination microwave. Small scullery where cleaning equipment is stored. Shelf for storage. Mosquito repellent plug-ins and outdoor sprays. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen change weekly. Property thoroughly cleaned before arrival. Extra cleaning can be arranged by request for 2 week stays at visitors convenience. Bath and hand towels provided. Pool and beach towels NOT provided. Twin beds in apartment can be a double. Other: Beamed garden room opening to sun terrace - could be used as 5th bedroom to sleep 2. Self contained studio apartment with twin beds, fully fitted kitchen with sink, hob, oven, fridge/freezer, and basin, toilet and shower. Opens directly onto the pool.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The house is clean and well furnished and feels more 'homely' than many rental properties. We were three couples and there is plenty of room so you can always find a quiet place to get away from everyone if you need to! However we spent most of our time outside in the beautiful pool area and enjoying the magnificent views from the extensive terrace. The local village is delightful with some lovely bars and restaurants and is within walking distance if you don't mind a bit of an uphill challenge. I highly recommend the local butcher who did his best to understand our feeble attempts at Italian and the brilliant little wine bar serving local produce which is only open for a few weeks in the summer. The owners were extremely prompt and helpful throughout the booking process and provided lots of useful information about the house and the surrounding area. Elaine has a wealth of local knowledge and will answer any questions you may have. I have no hesitation in recommending this property for a relaxing and peaceful holiday.
