About the Owner
Manny & Shirley would be pleased to welcome you to Villa Nova Alta. We live with our two young daughters in Shenfield in South East England. Ten years ago, whilst on holiday, we fell in love and bought this beautiful 17th century villa which sits on a traditional Tuscan hillside with panoramic views. We have made good friends and found many enjoyable walks, local restaurants and bars. Villa Nova is a real adventure for us and a pleasure to share with friends, family and visitors.
Guestbook comments from the owner
'We had an absolutely fantastic time, with the only downside being that we had only made it for one week!
We arrived just after lunch and the beautiful house, view and pool were more than we ever expected.

'We had an absolutely wonderful time at your Villa; thought it was in a fantastic position, loved the garden, the tranquillity and would happily return some day. We made 2 visits to Lucca which we loved and we got to one of the Puccini festival concerts'. Sally July 2008.
'What a wondeful time we had. We did a lot of travelling the first week - Sienna, Pisa, Venice, Florence and Lucca. The second week we calmed down and enjoyed the local scene. Our long awaited trip was beyond our expectations. We thank you for all you did to make it so special.' Carina October 2012.

Amazing & perfect Tuscan Villa!!!
Our family of 5 had the most incredible holiday at this traditional, stunning & wonderful Tuscan Villa! Our 3 children 7, 9 & 11yrs loved exploring the grounds and especially the pool!!! The Villa was huge and had everything we could ask for from wonderful al fresco dining areas, memorable kitchen suppers with beautiful views out over the Tuscan Hills and snuggle on comfy sofas with a movie/book when tired at the end of day trip. Brilliant location - we visited Chianti Wine Region/Tour, Florence, Pisa, beach at Viareggio, Pescia, Portofino & Lucca.... Plus all the wonderful local delicious restaurants!!! Loved it!!!! Thank you so very much xxx
LOVE This Place!!!
We stayed as a group of 10 in the luxurious surroundings, easily accommodating all of us with plenty of space & privacy. Perfect for either a tranquil retreat or a celebration, as that is exactly what we experienced. The elevated views are absolutely stunning, being tucked away on a hillside, yet easy to access, with local restaurants & attractions nearby. The property is immaculately maintained inside & out, with beautiful gardens. The interior is welcoming & comfortable, tastefully decorated with a high quality style, yet retaining all the original charm albeit with a modern twist. As the property is fully equipped we truly wanted for nothing. Fortunately the owner has extensive knowledge of the area & recommended some of the best Italian restaurants we have ever been to - all local too!
A fantastic time was had by all, we returned home refreshed & relaxed. As stated by a friend (Kevin), staying with with us "If you can't chill out here - you can't chill out anywhere!".
Absolutely, Breathtaking Views
I can't rave about this property enough, having stayed at this residence for the first time. Its so refreshing to find a home abroad that is on par with your own home in the UK. This home was booked as a birthday treat for my wife with a few friends and it didn't disappoint as the listing description was exactly as 'stated on the tin' right down to the layout facilities and location. The property was well maintained and kept in a beautiful order coupled with the owner providing excellent customer service. I would highly recommend this home to my family, friends and relatives. The views were absolutely breath-taking with lots of restaurants and attractions nearby. Will definitely go back to this same residence when booking my next trip to Tuscany
Stunning situation above Pescia
This property is in an idyllic location. It is at least 15 minutes from Pescia on winding and narrow roads but if you are looking for stunning views and peace you would find it hard to do better.
We originally booked the apartment but as the upper house was unbooked the owner, very kindly offered us this at the same price.
The house is spacious, tastefully furnished and liberally sprinkled with objets d'art and paintings. You feel that you are in a home rather than a holiday let. Most windows look over the valley to hill villages beyond. The description of the property is accurate and it was clean and well-maintained. Frederica who manages the property lives next door and is friendly and helpful.
Our party was made up of 2 retired couples and the bathroom was adequate for our needs. If there are six of you this may need consideration, although there is an additional loo in the outhouse.
We had intended to sightsee, particularly to visit Florence but the weather was exceptionally hot and we were pleased that we had shade and an attractive swimming pool to relax beside instead of toiling round hot and dusty streets.
The hill village of Vellano boasts a spectacular position and was fun to explore. The restaurants serve good food for very reasonable prices. The casual, friendly atmosphere of the Bistrot, with its mix of family, locals and a sprinkling of tourists was particularly beguiling.
Lucca was well worth a visit, we loved its authentic Italian charm.
We were all surprised by the spectacular nature of the landscape in this area and would definitely visit it again. We would certainly recommend the house to family and friends. We were particularly lucky to have all the gardens and swimming pool to ourselves.
Wonderful Week In Tuscany
We had a fabulous week in this beautiful property. We were blessed with amazing weather while we were there. The location is fantastic, the gardens beautiful, the views spectacular and the décor in the house is lovely. The kitchen is very well equipped. We were very comfortable and happy there.
The village of Vellano is very pretty - we walked up to it once with our son in a backpack - it is a steep hill and took just over 20 minutes. We drove up every other time! We ate out in the two village restaurants both of which served lovely simple and affordable food (we preferred the restaurant with the glass room but I can't remember the name of it). Note that the pizza restaurant only does pizzas on Saturdays and Sundays and is closed on Mondays (at least while we were there).
Our little boy loved the gardens (especially the hammock!) though needed supervision on the terraces.
Frederica was very friendly and efficient and had left a lovely welcome package for our arrival. We visited Pisa, Lucca, Pestoia, Florence and Monte Carlo (a beautiful walled village) - all absolutely stunning although the bustle of Florence was perhaps a bit stressful with a toddler / buggy! They were all within easy daytrip distance. We would also recommend checking out the backstreets of Pescia which are surprisingly pretty given the main road through the town on the riverfront is not particularly attractive.
We are happy to recommend this lovely property in beautiful Tuscany.
We arrived at night and the last 1km is quite exciting, but well worthwhile. On getting to the property the welcome pack was much appreciated. The property is spacious, clean and just right for a relaxing holiday. Having the pool was great for cooling off in the hot sunshine and appreciating the fabulous views across the valley. The property is in a superb position for visiting the surrounding area and good railway links from Pescia to all the important destinations to take the pressure off driving.
All the information provided was accurate although the photographs do not fully show just how spacious the living/dining room actually is. All the facilities are there and easy to use and having Frederica so close by was a great help with advice and showing how things work.
The property has an information pack that was very useful when we visited Florence, Lucca, Vinci, Montecarlo, Viareggio, Pisa and the surrounding hill towns
From the Owner
“This area of Tuscany is still unspoilt. It has lovely refreshing country side and winding roads leading to charming ancient villages. The consistent message from everyone who stays at Villa Nova is just how absolutely tranquil and relaxing it is.”

Pisa airport is 45km away, less than an hour's drive. Car hire is essential.
The village of Vellano is a kilometre by winding road and 15 minutes on foot up the hillside paths. Because of the location, gentle breezes arrive during the day and at night, in the hot summer months. Vellano is also a well-known panoramic viewing point and is quite lively with restaurants, a bakery, grocery and post office. On the Vellano hillside you will find Chiesa di San Michele, a lovely welcoming 16th century church where several of our guests have chosen to renew their wedding vows.
Pescia is the local market town, 15 minutes drive and has supermarkets, retail, banks, superb restaurants and the usual facilties.

“Villa Nova dates from 1680 as can been seen from the keystone by the front door. We have complimented its history with some lovely antiques we sourced from cosy Bientina - an antiques village close to Pescia. The Marriage Chest in the Upper House master bedroom is from 15th century Finland, the side board in the Upper House sitting room is 19th century northern Italy, and there are Edwardian washstands from England in the mix!”
