Chateau and Farmhouse in Benque, near Aurignac, Haute Garonne - Peaceful retreat for families and friends within aasy reach of Toulouse and The Pyrenees

The property is within an hour's drive south of Toulouse. Over 400 years old, it sits in a beautiful rural setting outside the village of Benque. Adjacent to the Chateau is the Farmhouse and several other interesting outbuildings. There is also a private tennis court and 16m swimming pool.The nearest shops and restaurants are in the small historic town of Aurignac, which is a 10 minute drive. Larger shops, markets, and amenities can be found in Martres-Tolosane, Cazèrs or St. Gaudens. The Pyrenees are within an hour's drive..

About Brigid Clarke

We have owned Chateau Benque since 2003. It had been in the previous owners family for some 300 years but, for the last 50 years, the main building had remained unoccupied. We have enjoyed seeing the property lived in again filled with family and friends. The setting is beautiful with panoramic views including the Pyrenees. In the summer, we tend to spend most of our time outside and so cultivating the gardens has been important to us. The covered barn between the kitchen and pool is the perfect place for shaded lunches and evening bar-b-ques. It's probably the most used 'room' in the property. The views of the sunset from the pool terrace are spectacular and then later there are hours to be spent star gazing. We love the area, friends and neighbours and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we do.

...an idyllic place for an extended family get-together in an elegant yet homely French country house, with plenty of space for our party of fifteen. Everyone from bird-watching grandparents to sunbathing, swimming, tennis-playing teenagers found plenty to do, and no-one was ready to go home at the end of a week. (ST London)

We have spent many wonderful weeks here. It is a fabulous house with very spacious accommodation, a stunning interior, superbly equipped and surrounded by beautiful views, especially of the Pyrenees from the house and the pool. The addition of the tennis court makes it the perfect place for friends and family to spend a fun, relaxing holiday together.

Oooohh....I want to hop on a plane NOW!!

Notes on accommodation: Both properties include lots of original features and have been furnished very much as a homes. We have just completed a substantial renovation project. The Chateau kitchen is now a huge space which works really well when the house is full. The 4 main bedrooms are all similarly generous in size and each has either an ensuite or adjacent bathroom. We hope that you will enjoy the Chateau and the Farmhouse but the for much of the year you will probably want to spend as much time as possible outside. The views really are spectacular, particularly from the sunny pool and towards the Pyrenees. The open barn leading off the kitchen is perfect for shaded lunches and evening meals overlooking the gardens. If you need some peace and quiet, there are plenty of lovely places to hide away while others are enjoying a more active time. The combination of 2 properties can work really well for providing privacy within a large group; for example for grandparents, teenagers or visiting friends. Outside: There are large flower beds at the front of the Chateau and a vegetable garden facing south towards the mountains. Overlooking the walled beds between the house and the swimming pool, there is an old open barn which provides the perfect eating place for hot days and cool evenings. There is a large table with ample seating and a BBQ. An enormous terrace surrounds the pool with a lavender walk leading off it. Plenty of loungers and further tables and chairs are dotted around the terrace and garden so you can always find the right place to sit. There is a small dovecote and another huge barn (as yet un-renovated). The tennis court is set behind the Farmhouse and the whole property is surrounded by fields and woods which you are welcome to explore. Utility Room: The Chateau has a seperate utility room with additional large fridge/freezer, small freezer, washing machine and dryer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: There is a housekeeper who comes in for changeovers. She is available for more hours by private arrangement. All towels and linen are provided. Sheets are changed weekly. Other: The Chateau has 2 entrance halls, one with a long oak dining table for indoor entertaining. There is also a study with an additional day bed and a large landing with additional sofas.

Absolutely Fabulous

We danced and danced in your kitchen.

We had dinner in the setting sun by the pool.

We had lilo races (both adults and children)

and we played tennis and drank gin and tonics by the court.

What can I say that hasn't already been said. 12 people had the most marvellous time, in the most beautiful of surroundings, in the most fabulous house, with the most dear of our friends and family.

A stunning house and gardens

This home and its gardens have been designed beautifully ( the photos don't do the property and surrounding countryside justice really). A huge group of close friends and kids spent a very special week here - we swam in the fabulous long pool, cooked splendid meals in the spacious, practical and tastefully kitted-out kitchen, ate in the outdoor BBQ area most nights, as well as watching the sun set on the bench at the end of the lavender path - before stargazing. The children (aged between 3 and 12) swam, played ping pong, tennis, and went on the secret swing - and as parents it was great knowing they were completely safe in the grounds. The house has a DVD so sometimes the children would watch a film in the evening.

The nearest supermarket is in Aurignac, about 10 mins drive away - it's a ramshackle and charming small town. Some of us went to Lourdes 90 mins away, others drove to the Pyrenees, about an hour away. The area where the house is located is non-touristy, peaceful and very beautiful.

We ate at Le Bistrot in Aurignac one evening, a traditional French place. Seated on the terrace at the back of the restaurant, Paulette treated us as though we were dining in her own home - it was magnificent, as was the food.

Could we make one tiny suggestion to make this house even more perfect? - a couple of parasols by the pool to shade us from the glorious sun in the early afternoon.

We had an amazing week here and would definitely recommend it.

We have just returned home from the most amazing fortnight at Chateaux Benque. I have never had holiday blues like it! We are missing everything about the place, the beautiful garden, the bushes of lavender, the view, the perfectly situated pool, I even took up tennis again. It is a lovely house in the most stunning surroundings, we are planning our next visit already. Thank you Brigid for making it all so perfect.

Fabulous Place!

This is the most stunning place. The house easily accommodated 3 families and was exceptionally well equipped. It was stunningly renovated and the setting was breathtaking. The pool is beautiful and the 360 degree view of the countryside is unforgettable. All in all I would throughly recommend this property possibly the most lovely we have ever stayed in in France!

When can we come again?!

Eight girls ranging from 27 to 65 squealing like teenagers when we got there - it was such an amazing place to arrive at! We hardly left the Chateau, there was no need, it is a beautiful place to stay, inside the house and in the grounds. The lavendar is gorgeous, the views are calming, the gardens go on forever! lovely place

We had a great time in Chateau Benque. The house is amazing and the kids enjoyed all there was to do (table tennis, tennis, swimming, exploring). We hardly left the house during our week's stay...

You have done a great job with the house, it has all the assets of a new modern house and still the feel of an old chateau.

We would highly recommend to others who are looking for a luxury and spacious villa in a peaceful environment.

Booking Notes:
There may be flexibility over changeover dates so please contact us to discuss your preferences. There will be a £500 damage deposit added to the rental which will be returned after the rental subject to any deductions. An initial payment of 1/3 of the rent is payable to secure the booking. The balance is payable 4 weeks before the start.

Changeover Day:
Our preferred changeover day is Saturday but subject to other bookings there may be some flexibility on changeover days so please do contact us with any requests. On a changeover day you will be asked to leave by 10am. Arrivals from 5pm onwards.

Notes on prices:
Prices are for the property per week in UK pounds. Other than in peak season (July and August) there is a reduction of £300 if you do not wish to use the Farmhouse. Weekends, mini breaks and special deals may be available out of peak season so please do contact us if these might be of interest.
