Farmhouse near St Clar, Gers, Midi Pyrenees - Tranquil Rural Location in historic Gascony with Stunning Views

This traditional Gascon farmhouse offers accommodation for up to 10 guests and is an ideal holiday retreat for family or friends. It is situated in a tranquil,rural location with beautiful views, yet still close to several historic market towns with great restaurants and shops. The property has been sympathetically restored to a very high standard and retains many original features.The private pool (12 x 6m) is situated in front of a large open fronted

barn (8 x 15m). This has recently been renovated, and the whole area tiled in limestone. The hangar has been arranged as an outdoor living space, with a

large farmhouse dining table, three comfortable sofas, barbecue area, and table tennis. The charming bastide village of St Clar,3 km away, is a delight, with an excellent supermarket and two boulangeries. Thursday is market day, brimming with local produce and well worth a visit.

About Melanie Ireland

Two sisters bought adjacent properties in 2007, primarily for personal use. As the houses are uninhabited for periods of the year, it was decided to make them available for rental. For larger groups, our five bedroom farmhouse can be rented alongside my sister's neighbouring property which sleeps a further 6 people (please contact the owner if this is of interest). We have an excellent agent in France who greets our guests and manages the changeover. She is able to deal quickly with any problems should they arise during your stay. We see these properties as homes rather than a business and we welcome any family or group who are able to appreciate and respect the high standard of accommodation we are able to provide in this beautiful, unspoilt part of France.

Notes on accommodation: The accommodation is extremely spacious and is suitable for large groups of either family or friends. There is ample space to get together, but at the same time there are plenty of areas both inside and out for those seeking peace and quiet to read their favourite book. The house is centrally heated and has log burning fires which make the accommodation cosy throughout the year. Outside: Spacious well kept gardens surround the vine clad farmhouse. There is a delightful kitchen garden with outdoor seating. The open barn can comfort accommodate the whole party either for al fresco dining (barbecue provided) and for lounging in front of the pool either on deck chairs or one of the three comfortable outdoor sofas. The pool is 12m x 6m with a depth varying from 1m to 2.3m. There is a safety ledge at the metre level around the deep end. A basketball net and table tennis table are provided for those feeling energetic. Utility Room: Utility room housing washing machine, clothes airer and extra fridge. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Cotton bedlinen and towels are included in rental price and changed weekly. Property cleaned weekly before and after departure. Pool and garden maintained during stay. Travel cot and highchair available. Local agent contactable during your stay.

Absolutely Amazing!

When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by Marianne who showed us around the property. There was eight of us, five adults and three children and there was ample room, we never felt we were on top of each other! The bedrooms were of a respectable size with lovely clean linen and soft towels and also pool towels were provided. The layout of the kitchen and dining area was lovely. Everything you would need in a kitchen was there, very impressive. To the side of the kitchen was a large laundry room with an extra fridge (extra room for wine!)

We spent most of our time in the 'hanger' area outside by the pool which was fabulous. It was easy to watch the children, read a book or enjoy sitting on one of the sun loungers and catch up on getting vitamin D for the winter! We had a few of our meals in the hanger area as there is a dining table and chairs which comfortably seats 10 people. There is also table tennis to enjoy. Melanie, the property owner was very informative and lovely to deal with. I will miss sitting with a glass of wine under the hanger in the evenings and watching the stars come out. I would not hesitate in recommending Le Carrelot to anyone!

A perfect holiday

We stayed at Le Carrelot last year, it was so good we decided to spend 3 weeks this year. It is truly a wonderful house. The gardens are well maintained and very attractive and in July the sunflowers are at their best. This is not a destination for 24/7 fun seekers, but for those who like a relaxed holiday with very comfortable sun loungers and a well equipped kitchen in which to stretch your creative abilities this is the place. Despite the uncertain weather we had a wonderful holiday. Hopefully we shall return.

Welcoming, relaxing, exquisite & exceptional home

On arrival, having driven through acres of sunflowers, we were greeted by the most beautiful views of stunning scenery with a tantalising glimpse of the Pyrenees snow capped mountains.

The vehicles had shaded parking, and a few steps away, a beautiful patio, with a table and chairs, leading to the kitchen door.

Walking into the cool kitchen (most welcome on a hot,afternoon) we were delighted to,find a spacious kitchen, with a five burner hob and electric ovens. The kitchen was equipped with absolutely everything we could need, plus more.

The kitchen sink was part of the marble counter, , with tall stools on the opposite side -making for a lovely relaxed atmosphere for making meals and chatting together at the same time.

The kitchen was open plan with a large dining area with a beautiful wooden table with seating for at least 10 peoplewhere we could sit and chat whilst we enjoyed the bottles of local,wine (very nice indeed) left for us as a welcome gift together with a lovely handwritten card from the owner. Off the kitchen was a very useful utility room.

From the kitchen dining room, through to a scrumptious lounge. Three oversized feather filled sofas, a large wood burning stove in a rustic inglenook fireplace.

The decor is exceptional and tasteful throughout, and the lounge was a particularly warm and welcoming room.

The lounge leads onto the hallway, front door, stairs to the bedrooms, with a ground floor wet room which, like everything else is fabulous with the biggest shower head that we'd seen.

Up,the stairs to the bedrooms. Each one is large, spacious and tastefully decorated in classic French style. Comfy beds, and some unique touches, including the glazing of some of the small holes in the walls created by removing previous wooden beams, and letting in subtle light to the en-suite. The upstairs bathrooms were like everything else - beautiful.

Downstairs again, out of the front door, where immediately opposite is a beautiful lawn and a path to the stunning pool and open barn

It's huge! It has a heavy wooden table big enough to seat 12, a ping pong table and three wonderful sofas around a low table overlooking the pool.

Local villages and towns are welcoming, have great markets and even better bakeries! The loca supermarket is only a few minutes away.

There's no more space to tell you just how wonder this place is. Suffice to,say, we'd happily spend an eternity here!

Two weeks in Avezan

We have just returned home after two wonderful weeks in Meanie's beautiful house. We were a party of eight. The house is spacious, clean and very well equipped. My only quibble would be that a sheet and a light blanket would have been more than adequate on the beds rather than duvets in the height of summer, the fans provided in the bedrooms were much appreciated.

We all enjoyed the pool and especially the barn which provided shade from the sun.

The garden is very well established and well maintained.

We had taken our bikes but they were not very well used due to the heat, but we did manage to get up the hill into St Clar one morning. Not a ride for the infrequent cyclist!

I would recommend this beautiful part of France to anyone who enjoys the rural life. It's not a holiday destination for those who enjoy clubbing!

I hope we shall be able to return some time soon.

Le Carrelot 32380 Avezan

Le Carrelot is a beautifully presented house with every possible home comfort. Each of the 5 bedrooms provide ample space and the pool area is perfectly sited for convenience; the covered barn with its table tennis table is perfect for the wet days and also allows plenty of shade for al fresco dining or general relaxation.

The property and grounds are well maintained and I would happily recommend the house as a perfect place for a family holiday.

A Wonderful Property

Our family had the most wonderful week in July at Villa Le Carrelot. This beautiful property and the surrounding area far exceeded our expectations in every way and the photos on this website only give you a taste of how stunning it really is.

Villa Le Carrelot is not your typical French rental villa in the country, judging by the attention to detail inside and out, it’s clearly loved, used and well maintained by its owners. Everything from the Le Creuset cookware to the outside pool furniture speaks quality and practicality. The bedrooms are spacious and have marvellous views over fields of sunflowers and wheat and in the distance little villages. The bathrooms work well and there was never an issue of running out of hot water. The kitchen was a pleasure to be in, with a great oven, dishwasher and plenty of crockery and cutlery.

The outdoor areas are just as beautiful surrounded with colourful gardens and a couple of lovely areas with table and chairs to sit at in the sun. The “Hanger” is the perfect place anytime of the day. We spent most afternoons and evenings here in the shade beside the pool, enjoying lots of Rosé, cheeses and other local treats.

There are plenty of picturesque villages within easy driving distance of the villa on very quiet rural roads that are well worth visiting. Everyday a different village has a market and they sell the freshest of produce. Saint Clar just a few minutes drive away has two good patisseries and a decent sized Intermarché.

Marianne who met us at the villa was super friendly and knows the area well. She explained everything we needed to know about the property and kindly gave us lots of helpful recommendations on things to see and do.

A special big thank you to Melanie who from the very start was always so helpful and super quick at replying to our enquires. We wish you all the best and are so grateful for such a fabulous week, Villa Le Carrelot really is a special place.

Our friends rented the villa next door that is owned by Melanie’s sister, the same week as we were at Le Carrelot. It’s worth noting both these beautiful proprieties are totally private and independent of each other and the proximity to each other is not an issue at all.

If you want to have a terrific family holiday in a spectacular part of France, Villa Le Carrelot will not disappoint.

Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts are 2 hours drive away.


The nearest airport is Toulouse, 60 mins drive. Bordeaux is a 90 mins drive. Car hire is essential. To drive from Calais takes approximately 10 hours.
