Watermill in Brouains, Near Sourdeval/Manche, Normandy - Peaceful Riverside Location With Stunning Views And Minutes Away From A Quaint French Market Town

This beautiful old watermill is set on the river 'Le See' with beautiful views of the surrounding valley and river. The mill has been tastefully restored to offer comfortable accommodation including a modern and fully fitted kitchen complete with dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and range. The kitchen is very well equipped. There is a wood burner in the lounge area and a large dining area. Outside there is ample space for alfresco dining and relaxation which overlooks the river and the splendid views of the valley. It is ideally situated for visiting the local towns as well as coastal regions of Normandy and is within easy reach of St Malo, Caen and Cherbourg. Right on the doorstep there are many walks and cycle routes to explore alongside the tranquility and beauty of the surrounding countryside. Superb restaurants and boutiques are close by ready to be sampled.

A real French holiday!

A real "get away from it all" holiday. Peace and quiet of the countryside but all the comforts of home. Ideal for the family. Kids enjoyed some fishing... Without leaving the garden!!! A lovely location but not far from a market and village. Will be returning next year..

The location is the beautiful Lower Normandy region in the Manche department in north-western France. It gives one the opportunity to explore a huge range of interesting areas in all directions. The D-Day landing beaches are well within reach aa are places like Bayeux with its famous tapestry and the famous Mont Saint Michel. The roads are quiet and travel is very easy.

The stunning south Normandy coast line is a 45 minute drive from the mill. There are several stunning beaches with water sport facilities and fantastic fish restaurants. The Mill is also only 45 minutes from Mont Saint Michel and only an hour away from the Normandy landing beaches and many museums. In addition, only 45 mins away from the cathedral city of Bayeux with its famous tapestry.


The Mill is situated 90 minutes from St Malo and Cherbourg and just over an hour from the Caen ferry. Also at approx 90 minutes is the airport at Dinard which is served from several airports across the UK including Luton, Stansted, Birmingham and East Midlands.

Further Details:

In the surrounding valleys to the mill there are plenty of activities including canoeing, horse riding, cycling, walking, fishing and golf. There are the Normandy beaches on the north coast a 1-2 hours drive away for those interested in European history, which are well worth a visit. There is the medieval town of Bayeaux with its famous tapestry and the fortified town of St Malo for those wishing to explore. For families with small children there is the Enchanted Village at Bellefontaine 3km from the Mill which is one of France's popular attractions.

There are a number of wonderful restaurants close by in Sourdeval centre, which is less than 5 mins by car or a nice 20 min walk, Highly recommended is the restaurant 'Auberge de Moulin de la See'.

Others of note are:

'Hotel de la Poste Mortain' (20 mins by car).

'Le Moulin de Jean Restaurant' (10/15 mins by car - Very nice).

Around an hours travel away there are plenty of moving sites and special attractions to go and see including:

Normandy Beaches. Memorial at Caen. Arromanches & Pegasus Bridge. Normandy 1944 site of interest. Utah Landing Beach. Airborne Museum. Tourism Sites. Mortain Tourism. Ducey Tourism. Jullouville tourism.

Things to do include Mont-St- Michel, Canoeing, Cycle and walkways, childrens park, go karting, aquarium St Malo, bayeux tapestry museum. There are plenty of lovely walks you can do direct from the mill and there is also a old railway line that is now a cycle way that take you all the way to the coast or as far as Cherbourg in the opposite direction.

Changeover is on a Saturday from 3pm onwards however this can be flexible based on other bookings. We have a keyless entry system that means that entry to the property can be any time that suits you so you can take your time and do sightseeing on the way.

  • Notes on accommodation: The accommodation is suitable for families however, small children would need close supervision due to the river. Access to the property is over a bridge across the water. Electric heaters are located in both bedrooms, both bathrooms and the living areas. 3G signal is very good at the property for connecting to the internet. Outside: The property stands in just under an acre of land and is surrounded on both sides by the river. The water wheel has not yet been restored but the rushing of the water in the mill race adds to the peaceful attraction of this watermill. There is ample space for barbeques and there is garden furniture available as well as two bikes for the athletic visitors. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels are provided and changed at weekends. Beach towels or towels for use by the river must be provided by clients. The property is cleaned at each change over.
