This is an ideal base to explore the surrounding areas including, Seville, Jerez, Cadiz, Gibraltar and the stunning beaches of the Costa de la Luz. Arcos has an unrivalled position sitting on a ridge above a steep limestone cliff dropping down to the Rio Guadalete. There is a sprawl of white houses, comparing dramatically with the brown sandstone of the castle and churches. If you want to get out of town there is a wealth of countryside to explore. Nearby Grazalema National Park offers many beautiful walks.

The beautiful cities of Cadiz and Seville and numerous beaches are all within easy reach. Arcos is a perfect base from which to explore this part of Spain.

About Kees & Rietje Streefkerk

We are Rietje and Kees Streefkerk born in 1950 and 1952 in Amsterdam. We are married for 40 years and live in Arcos since 2012. We love (watching) football, walking, cycling and golf.

Why Kees & Rietje Streefkerk chose Arcos de la Frontera

We bought a house in Arcos de la Frontera because we fell in love with this town at first site. The atmosphere is relaxed and the local people are friendly.

It is very nice to stroll in the old town centre, have a drink accompanied by "tapas", and have a meal in one of the numerous restaurants. From Arcos we love to explore Andalusie, with the little white villages, the beautiful beaches and we love to make long walks.

What makes this apartment unique

The appartment is on the top floor of an appartment building. The terras is in hte shade in summer sunny in winter. It is on walking distance from little local stores and the Spanish supermarket the Mercadona. If you are with more then one family, there is a similar appartment in the same building please ask for more information.

Notes on accommodation: Outside: Public swimming pool at 500 mtrs and at the hotel restaurant La Molinera at the lake, both open july-september. Also a nice beach at the lake. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen provided. Property cleaned prior to occupation.

Nice Accommodations in an Historic City

We were pleasantly greeted by the two owners of the vrbo when we arrived. The apartment was clean and in order. It was quite cool due to the weather but when we contacted the owner he brought over a space heater, which did the trick. The kitchen was well supplied for cooking your meals there. The wifi worked, which is always important when you are traveling from place to place. We had everything we needed for a nice four day stay.

Great hosts and the perfect location to explore this corner of Andalucia

The apartment is spacious and comfortable and very clean, with many of the little touches that make a holiday rental feel like home. The location in Arcos is well positioned for exploring the old town or in the other direction, the everyday shops and bars. The garage is a great convenience and a cool car is a good start to trips out, with no added stress of finding parking on return. Excellent communication with our hosts and a real commitment demonstrated to ensuring our stay was a great holiday in every respect.

The beach on the lake nearby is only ten minutes drive and a beautiful place to cool off or spend the day if you don't want to go too far. Further afield, we headed towards Zahara de la Sierra and found lovely places to both sightsee and swim. We spent 9 very happy days in the apartment and in this area..

exploring Adalucia

Modern top floor apartment, very comfortable, central. Arcos is a picturesque town, ideal for visiting historic towns on the Costa de la Luz and Gibraltar. I would recommend also renting the garage parking space offered.

Great location, cozy, and clean!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the apartment! The apartment is close to lots of restaurants and a relatively short walk to the old part of town. There's a little grocery store just across the street for your convenience. The apartment was cozy and clean. Very well maintained, and the owners even had some dvds for us to watch in the evenings, a few cabinet essentials for us to use (coffee, tea, olive oil, salt, etc.). Nicely furnished and comfortable. We appreciated having a little space for our family to spread out, and the price was very reasonable compared with hotels with a similar level of comfort in the area. Overall, I highly recommend this place!

The stunning beaches of the Costa de la Luz are approx 45 mins drive away.

From Tarifa to Cadiz and beyond, the wide white sand beaches, backed in the most part by countryside

and accessible via small country lanes are undoubtedly one of Spain's best kept secrets.

As well as sunbathing, the beaches are used extensively for kite surfing and horseriding.

Arcos also has 2 lakes within 10 mins drive of the house.

There you will find facilities for sailing, canooing and fishing.


Jerez airport is 30 minutes drive,

Other nearby airports are at Seville and Gibraltar, both about 75 minutes away.

Malaga airport is 2.5hrs drive away.

Car hire is recommended.


Jerez 30 minutes - Sherry bodega tours, Equestrian school, flamenco.

Seville 1 hour - Cathedral, Alcazar.

The Parque natural de la sierra de Grazalema is 1 hour away for excellent walking and riding.

Costa de la Luz - numerous beaches, nearest 45 minutes.

Pueblo Blancos - easy access to other white mountain villages.

Sanlucar - Beach and famous fish restaurants.

Cadiz - 45 minutes drive or short ferry ride from El Puerto Santa Maria.

Ronda - 1.25 hours with it's famous gorge.

Further Details:

Arcos has numerous restaurants which are called "Ventas" with simple food and cheep menu's. There are a number of big supermarkets nearby (by car) eg. Carrefour, Mercadona.
