Casa do Mar is a uniquely positioned large front line beach house with DIRECT access to the sandy family friendly Luz beach only 20m from the pool and with its own beach terrace, it is a true location, location, location house. With its un-interrupted spectacular sea views, a heated swimming pool and full time maid the house is irresistible and provides for the most wonderful family or large group holidays. The house sleeps 12 adults and has large and numerous indoor and outdoor communal areas and terraces. The house sits on a plot of roughly 2 acres of managed gardens, lawns and courtyards which means that there is plenty of room for privacy or group gatherings with space aplenty. The house is located in an exclusive, quiet, private villa area known as Parque da Praia and is not overlooked, yet is only a 3 minute stroll along the beach to all the restaurants, bars and shops. The convenience of location, size and amenities makes Casa do Mar's position unsurpassed in Luz.

About the Owner

My parents purchased Casa do Mar in this a then undiscovered part of the Algarve in 1971. I now manage the house for the current owners having had an uninterrupted 40 years contact with the house. It has provided for many great and happy family summers both for me as a child and now as an adult with my own children. Casa do Mar has been successfully rented for 35 years to families who initially brought their children to stay and still return yearly but now with their grand children !

Unbeatable Location!

Stayed for a week at Casa Do Mar and had a wonderful time. The Villa is spacious and has everything you need, beautiful gardens and direct access to the beach. We did not see another villa in Luz that was as big and had the same beach access.

Susannah was very helpful with any questions both before and during our stay and any issues were dealt with straight away.

We would definitely return!

We love this villa. The location is unbeatable and the space is unsurpassed in a holiday home. It combines old Portugal with all you need for a comfortable and relaxing holiday. A truly special place.

Casa do Mar’s position is simply stunning. To go to sleep hearing the sea and wake up to the blue skies melting into the blue ocean, framed by the green lawns is a sight I never forget. The house isn’t surrounded by neighbours either because of its beach front location so it’s peaceful and private. Having a maid to clean the house and change the linens and keep things tidy means that you can really switch off and enjoy your holiday. Even when the house is full (it can accommodate 3 families easily), you never feel crowded which is often the case in most villas as there is so much space to spread out. There is a huge front terrace running the full width of the house, a separate big terrace by the lovely pool, lawns aplenty to spread out on and sun loungers for everyone! There is also a lovely marble outside dining table where you can sit in the shade enjoying long lazy lunches before flopping into the pool or going for a glass of wine on the beach as the sun sets. I have been staying in the house for 40 years and I never tire of the serenity it brings. My children now visit the house and it has brought us all years of fun, joy and relaxation.

Special interest holidays:

Luz is renowned for its safe sandy beach which forms the central attraction for many holidaymakers. There are water sports centres where wind surfers and sail boats can be hired. Tuition in water ski and diving are available from the beach. Beside the cliff known as the Rocha Negra an underwater reef produces a break which is well rated by local surfers when there is a decent wave although for more reliable surf you should head to the west coast which is only 25-30 minutes drive away. There are also numerous surf camps and triathlon companies who operate in the Algarve due to its great climate, safe cycling roads and easy access.


Casa do Mar enjoys direct access to the beach with no road or path to cross. This is almost unique for property in the Algarve. There are generally buckets and spades to spare at the house, and some inflatable pool toys, but these are subject to use by all visitors and cannot be guaranteed to be there. The small shops along the front promenade and elsewhere, have a wide variety of beach "toys" for sale. The east end of the beach has rocky outcrops; at low tide children love to search the pools.


The easiest way to travel to Praia da Luz is to fly to Faro airport which is 89km from the house (approximately 1 and a half hours drive). Road access is easy from the airport with a major toll road linking to minor roads straight to Praia da Luz.

Other visitors from further afield have flown to Lisbon, which is also readily accessible by car (using another toll motorway) in approximately 3-4 hours depending on time and the driver.


Luz is on the doorstep. It is 3 minutes level walk along the beach, or quiet beach road, to the centre of Luz with all its restaurants, bars & supermarkets. Much of Luz centre is pedestrianised. There is a little known Roman site on the beach front with access along the promenade. Lagos is a historic town, with a museum, art galleries, many many shops and restaurants, about 6km. 4+ large supermarkets there+ Lidl & Aldi too! The old town is fascinating to walk through.

Further Details:

There are so many restaurants it is no longer possible to list them, but you can walk to (and from) a great many. The centre of Luz is a 3 minute stroll along the beach. Coffee, breakfast, lunch, supper are all available along the pedestrianized seafront if you wish. Larger and smaller supermarkets are accessible and some deliver. 4 Large supermarkets, plus a Lidl and Aldi, are in Lagos.

A bank is in the village at the church square. Hairdressers, clothes shops, chemists, doctors, are all in the "village" and the post office is on the "high street", all walkable. Any questions, please ask.

25% deposit to secure, balance to pay 8 weeks before going.
Pool heating is an optional extra and is charged weekly at £200 for 2015 . Pool heating is not required, unless desired, in high season as the house has a very efficient pool cover. Pool heating is recommended in the Spring, Autumn and Winter.

Changeover Day:
Saturday changeover. 3pm check in and 10am check out. We are flexible on these times depending on before and after rentals, but by prior arrangement. This has been successful for years and will continue for the foreseeable future.

In non-peak or high season weeks the changeover day may be flexible. Please contact the owner.

Notes on prices:
Whilst the house usually rents on 7 or 14 day cycles, Saturday to Saturday, unusual rental periods will be considered on a case by case basis. Contact the owners for more information.

Prices for 2015 vary greatly depending on the time of year you are visiting & range from £2,000 per week low season to £5,500 per week peak season. Please contact the owners for 2015 week specific prices.

Full time, 6 day per week maid Heated Swimming pool Egyptian Cotton linen, bath towels and beach towels. 3 minutes walk to the centre of Luz Enormous grounds, very very rare in villa rentals when you are normally crammed into as small a space as possible!   • Notes on accommodation: The villa is managed 6 days per week by the maid, Alice, as well as by our local agent. This is all included in the price and is very rare in villa rentals nowadays. This includes supervising the general well being of the house, cleaning and tidying, a weekly linens change and ensuring that everything is kept in working order, as well as seeing to the needs of the guests. You will be visited within 48 hours of arrival by our managing agent, or by appointment, to help with instructions to the maid, etc., please do not hesitate to ask them for help or advice in connection with the villa at any time. There is a villa book, for reference, in the property. The garden/lawns and pool are maintained weekly on contract.
