Overview

Property

Updated: 21-Nov-2016
Villa Nr. Pievescola, Casole D'Elsa, Nr. Siena, Tuscany - Recently Refurbished, Spacious, Detached Villa between Siena and San Gimignano

Il Tramonto (the sunset), a spacious and recently refurbished villa, set in its own private garden and olive grove in peaceful wooded surroundings with magnificent views, is the perfect choice for those who enjoy the countryside. It is situated in the Chianti area on the protected hills of the Montagnola, with distant views of San Gimignano. In the holm oak and chestnut woods of the Montagnola with its abundance of wild flowers, birds and animals, the expression “away from it all” says it all. It is within easy reach of Siena and Florence and many other places of historic interest such as the abbey of San Galgano. Only a few kilometres away there is a superb choice of restaurants, shops and bars. A special feature of this property is the beautiful interior decoration by the artist owner. Although generously accommodating up to 7, the villa is equally suitable for fewer and is frequently booked by two or four people. Discover ancient pathways, hamlets, chapels, castles and villas.

About the Owner

Jackie has been living and working in Tuscany for over 25 years and has been renting properties for the last 16 years. She is a photographer and teaches photography at the Siena Art Institute. She also works in metal and has her studio and showroom 5 mins from Il Tramonto, at the Villa of San Chimento. She already runs and is very willing to give guests photography lessons from one-day to a full week course. Jackie says: "It is always such a pleasure to be able to offer people from all around the world, who come to stay at Il Tramonto, a comfortable, quiet place to relax while they travel around the area enjoying the sites and treasures of Tuscany. I like to share with them my best secrets about where to visit, to eat and to explore and if there's time a stroll round the 16th Century Villa garden next to where I live and work. It's enchanting!" Jackie has two dogs, enjoys walking and cycling and being a photographer knows the area thoroughly.

Guestbook comments from the owner

'Everything we dreamed it would be - peace and quiet, idyllic surroundings and breathtaking views. Watching the sunset from the balcony with a glass of wine; stargazing; awakening to the tinkle of nearby goats' bells..... The beautiful home held us from travelling too far. Who could want for more..... other than a few more days!'

'Thank you very much for a fantastic week at Il Tramonto. It's a wonderful building in a great setting You are very lucky people to have it, and we count ourselves fortunate to have been able to make use of it. The internal layout of the rooms is excellent - such a sense of space. Dining every evening on the balcony to watch the sun go down was a real treat, with fireflies in the hedge at no extra cost.'

'Villa is stunning and big enough for seven of us - opening up the bedroom shutters each morning and enjoying the view - I don't want to go home. This place is stunning. Every room is beautiful.'

Stunning villa and location.

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic place! We stayed here for our honeymoon and couldn't have chosen a better location. The house is beautiful, spacious and tastefully decorated. We particularly enjoyed sitting in the garden among the olive trees soaking up the beautiful view across the valley.

Jackie was very hospitable and couldn't have been more helpful. It is in the perfect location for visiting the many wonderful towns and cities in Tuscany (Sienna, Florence, San Giminano, Volterra) and we would not hesitate to choose the villa on our next visit. We hope to go back very soon.

Restorative and good for the soul

  • 5 of 5

September was the perfect month for us to experience Tuscany at it's best. Perfect weather for eating our meals out in the loggia was a delight, catching the cooling evening breeze after the heat of the day. Rustic charm, but spotlessly clean was the perfect combination. The villa was spacious and filled with light, - a delight.

Great time in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

We spent a great time at Il Tramonto for three weeks last year - and will do so this year as well! We - that´s two mid-aged couples and a three years old girl. Jackie gave us very nice and uncomplicated welcome though we arrived quite late (departing from Warsaw and Hamburg in the morning). The location up in the hills is one you can dream of. Though you can visit lots of nice towns and tourist´s attractions around Il Tramonto (short distance to Siena and to San Giminiano; also "homebase" Colle di Val d´Elsa, where you can find two big supermarkets, has a tiny old town worth visiting): we all, including our little girl, just loved to hang out in the huge garden enjoying both the sun and the silence in the middle of nowhere. The villa´s interior is lovley, we felt home at once. You will find plenty of Jackie´s books left for her guests. The refrigerator broke down the other day but Jackie fixed it the very day after! We also loved to sit by the fireside in the night. For those who love sighseeing and hiking in a cosy but not overdone villa: you will enjoy it!

Quiet Rustic Beauty!

  • 5 of 5

Quiet Rustic Beauty with a gorgeous view. A True Tuscan Experience. My family spend a week here last spring and had a blast. The home is comfortable and set in the beautiful Tuscan hills. The location is awesome, near Florence, Siena, and lots of hill towns. We were near great restaurants as well. And if you are looking to sit outside and read a book, enjoy a walk in the countryside where rarely a car is seen, and eat some great meats and cheeses with your bottle of wine, then this is your place too. Honestly, we are dying to return.

Perfect holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Il Tramonto many times now since the summer of 2006 including Easter time, when towns were quieter but weather was still warm, Christmas, when it was frosty and bright (and we got married in Colle di Val D'Elsa) and six or seven hot, hot summers. Every time has been special and our hearts skip a beat when we turn off the main road and up to Scorgiano.

The welcome, from Jackie, always been warm and relaxed and assuring. She unobtrusively keeps an eye that we are okay and in need of nothing. Jackie can give advice on what to do and where to go and her fluent italian has helped up out on many occasions.

We find the house has everything we need and it suits our style of living well. We enjoy the decor and the spaces and the environs taking full advantage of the view every evening as the sun. Sometimes we are content to read and doze and watch the huge purple bees spin around the Olive trees in the garden; other times we venture out to some of the well known and less well known Tuscan towns and villages. A day trip to Firenze on the early morning bus is always on our itinerary. We also love to see what Jackie has been up to in her studio down the road.

We have travelled to many other places but going to Il Tramonto is our natural default setting for holidays. Can't wait for August!

Rent this villa!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this lovely farmhouse for a week with two other adult couples. The bedrooms, bathrooms, and common areas (indoors and out) were nicely laid out, and spacious enough so that three couples could spread out happily. The house is not fancy, but it's tastefully decorated, nicely maintained, comfortable, and charming. The view over fields and olive trees was spectacular. Our proximity to lovely medieval walled towns (including Siena and San Gimignano) and hiking on the Via Francigena meant we never lacked for activity ... but equally appealing was the opportunity to sit on the porch and look out over the countryside. Jackie, daughter of the owners, oriented us to the house and the area, and was easily accessible for questions. The local restaurant (about a 10 minute drive) served delicious homemade pasta, grilled pork, antipasto and inexpensive wine that combined excellent, simply prepared food with a true Tuscan experience. Staying at the villa was a total pleasure. We recommend it without hesitation to those looking for a welcoming base to explore the Tuscan countryside!

Owner's Response: We were delighted with this review and the comments regarding walking in the area, the views and especially the villa and all that it has to offer. Regrettably the restaurant referred to has closed, but may reopen. There are, however, a number of other restaurants close by, which we ourselves have visited and enjoyed.

Location

From the Owner

I used to ride up past this villa on my horse and fell in love with Il Tramonto, in it's spacious garden and olive grove nestled on the hill in a lovely quiet area. There is a very special and enchanting feel about this area of the Montagnola Senese. I have always enjoyed living in this part of Tuscany, where the sun shines most of the year, and history, art, nature and beautiful sights are abundant. It is great to have the space to work and develop my art and photography. The people are friendly and the food is so good. Eating out is excellent value and fresh produce is easy to find. Walking and cycling is wonderful here, especially on the Montagnola hills, and the tranquility of the area is what I love. Living on a farm makes it all the more interesting and I get to experience such a reality of nature. Siena is a short drive away and Firenze (Florence) too. Flights into Pisa make the area easily accessible. Some guests also use Rome or Florence. I enjoy the ability to travel widely from here.

Facilities

From the Owner

Tranquility, nature and wildlife, space and comfort. tracks that lead you on walks with stunning views. Everything works and if it doesn't we sort it out immediately! The garden is large, the olive trees give it great character, as do the other large trees. Wild flowers in Spring and early Summer, orchids, anemones and broom, ensure butterflies and bees have "a field day ". There are places to sit in sun or shade, and the terrace/ veranda is so special for sitting, eating, drinking and enjoying the views and sunsets. Above all it is the peace of the villa and the beauty around it that guests love. Waking in the morning to views across rolling countryside is a delight.
