Villa Tahta is a superbly appointed spacious 3 floor holiday villa with spectacular sea and mountain views. Set on a peaceful hillside location, amongst olive groves, this is a great holiday base ideal for families or couples looking for a peaceful and relaxing holiday in a truly beautiful setting. The villa is furnished and equipped to a high standard with air conditioning and fly screens throughout. Outside, the villa comes into its own, with bougainvillea covered dining pergola, stone BBQ, and wooden sunbeds around the private swimming pool. Our stunning rear garden offers welcome shade, relaxing in the hammock or reading on the bench. You can walk to the town in around 10-15 mins and another 5 mins through the winding cobbled streets to the harbour, that's if you can pass the quiet bars and lovely restaurants without stopping for a cool glass of Efes.
We, Neville & Lorraine, live in Bingham in Nottinghamshire and have two grown up daughters, and granddaughter.
Lorraine is a GP's receptionist, not your stereotypical one though, and Neville is a self employed gardener.
We have owned Villa Tahta from new, we bought it off plan in 2001 and it was built ready for the 2003 season.
Lorraine Wood purchased this villa in 2001
We went on holiday to Kalkan not intending to buy but the owner of the hotel we stayed at, The Asfiya, was about to start building some villa's, so we put a deposit down and the rest is history.
We love our villa, its in a quiet location but within walking distance of the town.
We love sitting on our veranda taking in the view and the odd drink or two, and look forward to the day when we will retire there for quite a few months of the year.
Coast/Beach:
There is a small pebbled beach by the harbour and there are also beach clubs available which offer relaxing sunbathing and swimming in the warm turquoise ocean. Some of them offer water-sports such as snorkelling, scuba-diving, wind-surfing, diving, sailing, fishing and other fun activities. For the more energetic you can also take part in mountain climbing, trekking, parascending, caving and walking, all available locally.
Travel:
Dalaman airport is the nearest airport and is about 1.5 hours from the villa though this is improving all the time as new roads are opened. Antalya is approx. 2 1/2 hours by car. Car hire is not essential in Kalkan you can walk to anything you will need in Kalkan and local taxi and mini bus services are plentiful and very reasonably priced. We can arrange airport transfers in air conditioned car or mini bus, if needed
Distances:
Shops, supermarket, restaurants 7-8 minute walk. Centre of Kalkan 15 minutes walk. Weekly Market is a 7-8 minutes walk. Kalkan beach and harbour 15-20 minutes walk. All these can be reached by local buses, Patara beach 15 minute drive. Kas 25 minute drive. Fethiye 1 hour drive. Saklikent Gorge about 45 minutes drive.
Further Details:
Kalkan has a wonderful array of restaurants where you can sample some of the finest cuisine Turkey has to offer, many with roof top terraces offering a wonderful view of the harbour and the starlight night sky. Alternatively you can watch the gullets and fishing boats from one of the many harbour side restaurants. There are a few bars available in both areas for a relaxing drink at any time of the day or night.
Market day is Thursday selling a wide variety of goods including locally grown produce, particularly good value are the herbs and spices. In the town there is a wide selection of shops selling beautiful Turkish carpets, jewellery, antiques and wonderful clothing made from the finest Turkish cotton which open well into the late hours. There are also several supermarkets some offering delivery service to your villa. There are many banks with ATM's and the PTT where you can change money, phone home cheaply and send postcards.
On those days when you wish to venture away from the resort why not visit one of the abundant ancient sites from the Lycian era. Close by are Patara, Xanthos, Letoon and Tlos, or further afield are the marvellous sights of Kekova, Myra, Olympos and even Ephesus. One of our favourites for all the family is to cool down at the amazing Saklikent Gorge.
