About the property

Cottage in Burgau, Western Algarve, Portugal - Unbeatable Location On Fishermen's Slipway Overlooking The Ocean

What a location! On the slipway just 50m from the beautiful sandy beach of Burgau with its world famous beach bar. This is a delightful converted fisherman's cottage. Though small in size, it makes up in character with sea views to die for! Positioned in the heart of this charming fishing village with its cobbled alleyways and a myriad of lovely restaurants all within easy walking distance. Fall asleep listening to the waves and wake up to the buzz of traditional village life. Burgau is a true gem which has retained its traditional charm. Some of the best beaches and golf courses in the Western Algarve are within 15 minutes drive away. Casa Pedro is like a doll's house with relatively small rooms and narrow staircases. The accommodation consists of of a one bedroom duplex apartment on two floors with a top floor sun terrace with stunning views overlooking the ocean. Fully licenced rental property (No. 22648/AL).

About Peter & Joanna Scriven

Peter and Joanna Scriven have a long association with the Western Algarve and have owned property there since 1983. Currently residing in Dubai, they and their their family visit their "second home" in the Western Algarve every year and plan, one day, to live there on a permanent basis.

Peter & Joanna Scriven purchased this apartment in 1980

Why Peter & Joanna Scriven chose Vila Do Bispo region

We first "discovered" Burgau in 1974 and immediately fell in love with this charming fishing village. In 1983 we were very fortunate to purchase Casa Pedro. Rarely is such property available, so ideally located next to the sea.

Over the years, Casa Pedro has been modified and upgraded but we have always tried to do this in a sympathetic way that retained its character and charm.

Each summer, we make the long journey from Dubai to return to Burgau where we feel instantly at home. The contrast of life between Dubai and Burgau is astounding. Burgau provides the perfect antidote to a stressful work life and a reality check on what life should be all about!

What makes this apartment unique

Though compact in size, Casa Pedro has considerable charm and is perfectly located to enjoy village life in Burgau.

Walking distance from lots of lovely cafes restaurants and mini-markets and in a prime position to buy the pick of the catch from returning fishermen on the beach.

Its just so nice to fall asleep listening to the ocean waves, in this peaceful and tranquil village where the people are so friendly and welcoming

Guestbook comments from the owner

‘Location, location, location - Casa Pedro re-defines the meaning of a beachside holiday! We both had a lovely relaxing time in your little house’ Richard Hunter

‘What a delightful village and what a lovely cottage- I felt like a child again. The village folk were so friendly and they taught us how to eat grilled sardines the Algarve way; sitting in an alleyway on an up-turned beer crate, washing down freshly-grilled fish with the local red wine. What bliss’ Jane Evans

‘Simple but more than adequate, our children loved Burgau and Casa Pedro: Can we book again for next year?’ Reg Daley

Casa Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Perfect accommodation for 2 with breathtaking ocean views which come into their own as you climb the stairs to the first floor living room. So close to the beach you can almost touch it & you can certainly hear the waves crashing ashore! Casa Pedro is very well maintained & Laura offers a warm welcome. Locals are all very friendly & a great welcome awaits in the Brizze Bar litterally a stones throw away serving great breakfasts. Casa Pedro is our Casa Paradise & we will be back!

A great little cottage

  • 5 of 5

Casa Pedro, a perfect retreat for two people who just want to work and relax where they can see the sea and sit in the sun! The house is so well equipped, clean and homely, we think it is the best holiday accommodation we have ever stayed in. Plenty of local restaurants and a long sandy beach add to the pleasure. We will be back!

A little gem

  • 5 of 5

A pair of fifty-somethings,we booked Casa Pedro for an early summer break and the reality exceeded expectations. This is a true gem. The location is just stunning, the apartment super with great views, and to be rocked to sleep by the waves, a pleasure. We hired a car and explored the area. Loved the Tomik cafe and bar for coffee and internet, dined at some great places- the star being The Anchora in the lower square- the best food we have ever tasted. Beach Bar is well worth a visit, as it as is the little restaurant just behind the Intermarche at Budens-best steak on the stone from this family run little secret.

We returned with a heavy heart and a passion to return.

Beautiful Burgau

  • 5 of 5

Despite the rain which greeted us as we arrived in Burgau it failed to dampen our spirits when we saw our lovely little apt in Casa Pedro exactly as advertised and the beautiful view of the beach from the upstairs living room balcony a dream come through. We loved our holiday in Burgau and found the apt very comfortable, well equipped and the location just perfect. You are spoiled for choice with the many great restaurants in Burgau and though small the village has everything one needs. We didn't hire a car and used Yellowfish Taxi transfer from Faro and found them excellent. We enjoyed walking the local cliff trails and used the bus to visit Lagos, Sagres and Cabo San Vincente. We intend returning to explore this beautiful area further and can thoroughly reccomend Casa Pedro and Burgau for a great holiday.

Just Perfect

  • 5 of 5

Within steps of the beach, so close it lulls you to sleep and gently wakes you in the morning. The cutest apartment we have ever stayed in. Burgau itself is lovely but we would recommend a car as getting in and out of the village in the evening is tricky as the last bus is about 8pm.

Lots of restaurants to choose from, some over priced some more reasonable. Fab market in Lagos, especially on Sat morning by the bus station.

Could go on for ever so I will stop. Book now!

My girlfriend and I stayed in the Casa Pedro studio apartment and it was cuddly and compact and totally as close to the sea as we could be without getting the sheets wet. I loved falling asleep and hearing the waves, I loved waking with the anticipation of walking along the cliffs and rocks, early before anyone woke, having them to myself and swimming in the sparkly dawn water, then bringing back freshly baked croissant, coffee and salty kisses to the beautiful little nook above the beach.

Burgau is close enough to where you would like to be if you want to be busy, yet far enough away to escape the bustle and noise, with enough of its own life, restaurants and class to make it a place of its own standing. Our stay there was fabulous.
