Cottage in Mesnil Clinchamps, Nr. Vire, Calvados, Normandy - Ideal Getaway For 2, Lovely Garden To Relax In

The property is situated in the centre of a pretty village near to the church, with a Bar/restaurant and small shop just across the road. Vire, the well known market town is just 10 minutes drive away, with plenty of places to eat and drink, also the next village St Sever has a new cafe, and restaurant about 10 minutes drive away . It is a 30 minute drive to the coast where you will find long sandy beaches, and you can take the boat from Granville to the Isles Chaussey. Northwards, is Bayeux and the D-Day landing beaches. Mont St Michel, Cancale and St Malo are just an hour's drive away, with beautiful abbeys and gardens along the way. There is an 18 hole golf course at Lac de la Dathee and lovely walks and picnic areas at the small Lac Du Vieux Chateau in nearby St Sever. There are many interesting places for walkers and cyclists along the old railway line and the quiet country lanes. The cottage has a pretty secluded back garden where you can sit and listen to the birds and enjoy the sunshine.

A beautiful cottage with enough amenities to feel like home, but it also felt like you were on holiday. The garden is also stunning. Sarah and Jon Crawley.

Lovely, peaceful getaway

  • 4 of 5

Had ten days in this lovely giet. It's set in a very quiet village in the middle of the beautiful Normandy countryside. The giet is big enough for a couple and maybe one small child. It has one big bedroom with a lovely comfy double bed and one room downstairs with a well stocked kitchen, small sofa and a small table with chairs. The property was clean and well maintained. The owners provided us with milk, cider and bread for our breakfast. You need a car to get around as there is little public transport and there is no shops selling fresh produce within walking distance. There is a bakery in the village and a restaurant, however, the restaurant was closed for the duration of our stay.

It's a great place to stay if you want to go sightseeing. It is easy to reach the Normandy landing beaches, Mont saint Michel and Bayeux.

The purpose of our holiday was to cycle around the countryside, this giet was the perfect place to stay for this as many of the cycle routes ran through the village. And the roads are really quiet, perfect for cycling or walking.

The nearest big town is Vire, lovely town with nice shops and the supermarkets as well good restaurants. Here you can also get a train to Paris, which is well worth the trip.

This giet is perfect for a couple wanting peace and quiet, cycling or walking holiday or as a good base for sightseeing. I would recommend this property to friends and relatives and we would return ourselves.

First time renting

  • 4 of 5

This was our first time renting a property and it has encouraged us to do it again. The property was very comfortable and well equipped. We had a problem in that the cooker did not work but within half a day of reporting this a brand new cooker had been fitted.

There is an excellent restaurant opposite the house and I would encourage anyone staying in the village to give it a try.

There is very little in the village other than this restaurant and a bread shop but other places to eat and a good variety of shops are only a short drive away.

One word of warning however, the bathroom is on the ground floor which is a bit inconvenient during the night.

Overall a good experience.
