About the property

Tripala farm is a countryside oasis, ideal for family holidays. You can relax by the swimming pool, sunbathe on the terrace or go mountain biking or walking in the spectacular Apuan Alps. Situated in Garfagnana, the farm is an ideal base if you want to visit the historic towns of Tuscany, including Lucca, Pisa and Florence. The coast is only a short journey by car or train so you can explore the beautiful fishing villages of the Cinque Terre and swim in the azure waters. In the nearby medieval villages there are several pizzerias and restaurants serving tasty local cuisine and wines made from grapes ripened on the nearby hillsides. True Italian hospitality

  • 5 of 5

Sshh...don't tell too many people about this place, it's a real hidden gem. Unspoilt, rustic, charming, the list goes on. A hire car and a decent map is a must to negotiate the hairpins of the mountains but it's well worth the effort when you arrive at the Tripala olive groves. We arrived late at night so were treated to a special treat when we stepped onto the patio the next morning to the spectacular alpine views. We stayed at la piana East which was perfect for us as a family with a young toddler; we all enjoyed the Al fresco dining and our daughter never tired of the large grassed area, the swings, slide and pool, not to mention making friends with the family cats and dogs! Carlos twice weekly gastro evenings are a real treat, not to be missed. There really is something for everyone here, no matter how active you want to be; good walking within easy reach, lots of local places to visit, or just relaxing by the pool. The real magic about this place though is the warm and genuine hospitality offered by Carlo, Sylvia and their family; you don't feel like a guest, or a traveller, you are made to feel like part of the Tripala family. There's a reason most people keep coming back to this place!

Paradise in the mountains!

  • 5 of 5

We went there last summer, and were overwhelmed by the beauty of the place and the generosity, kindness and entertaining talent of the hosts Carlo and Silvia plus their two lovely daughters.

It's a great place for families; it's quiet, it has great views and the food that Carlo prepares at least twice a week is outstanding. The apartments are cozy, well equipped with everything one needs, and we would not hesitate to recommend the place for anyone who loves Italy.

perfect home in the north of Toscana

  • 5 of 5

Spacious and quiet location on the grounds of an old villa in the north part of Lucca province. Great holiday houses, very clean with lot of privacy. Very nice and helpful owners, Slivia and Carlo, who also organize pizza tasting events and help with excursions. Although it is close to a little train station on the line Aula-Lucca, a (rental) car is advised. We enjoyed excursions to Cinque Terre (walking), La Spezia (great shopping), Lerici (beach), Lucca, Pisa and the marble quarry in Massa/Carrara. Closer by, you can enjoy mounting walking and climbing in the national park Alpi Apuani and mountain biking on the little mounain roads. This is the true unspoiled Toscany!

Perfect Holiday for a Real Taste of Italy

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from our fifth holiday at Tripala in Garfagna where we so enjoy the chance of a really relaxing break away from it all. The quiet stillness and mountain views from Tripala are breathtaking and draw us back time and again. The grounds are vast and ideal for exploring with plenty of room for games if you have youngsters. Carlo keeps the pool immaculate and is such a wonderful way to cool down after a day wandering round the local medieval villages or enjoying a "tourist" day in Pisa or Lucca. There is so much to do around such a beautiful, interesting area, so many places to eat, plenty of places to explore. Tripala is in a fairly remote, hillside location so a car is essential. There are plenty of inexpensive local shops and restaurants a short drive away. Although we usually go as a couple this year we took our 24 year old (very active) daughter and she loved it. Silvia very kindly arranged some adventure activities with a guide for her in the mountains including abseiling, leaping off waterfalls etc which proved highly successful and enjoyable. Nothing is too much trouble for Carlo and Silvia and they go out of there way to ensure their guests enjoy the local area and cuisine, laying on local tasting nights a couple of evenings each week for their guests. The apartment has everything you could wish for, including a huge private terrace with stunning views and has become our 2nd home. If you are after a real taste of Italy, and dont want to feel like just another tourist, Tripala is the perfect holiday location for couples, families or activity groups, we just wish we had discovered it years ago when our daughter was younger.

The Ligurian and Tuscan coasts are close by, so you can explore the unspoilt fishing villages of the Cinque Terre, laze on the sandy beaches of Versilia or shop glamorous Portofino. The Garfagnana has many pretty medieval villages that hold colourful festivals in summer. You can sample the local cuisine and wine, listen to live music and dance the night away Italian style! Lucca is only 70km away and is well worth a day trip. Marvel at the medieval and renaissance architecture, take a bike ride around the city walls or simply pass the time of day in a pavement cafe', sipping a Prosecco. Pisa and Florence are a maximum 2 hours drive from Tripala. Spring and autumn are the best times to visit and see the architectural and artistic treasures. Autumn is the ideal period to visit the numberless villages and historical towns, to walk in the charming autumn woods, and to rest and get the last tintarella, enjoying the warm sun, in your beautiful terrace overlooking the spectacular Apuan Alps. A wide choice of local specialities are offered in this period by the local restaurants and osterie, and can also be savoured during the various country celebrations in the nearby villages. In mild weather, you can easily reach from Tripala the Tirrenian sea beaches and villages, to enjoy long peaceful walks (i.e. Cinque Terre trekking path) and excellent Tuscanian and Ligurian fish cooking, out of the crowds of the high season! The closest bank, gas station and pharmacy are in Casola in Lunigiana (6 km from Tripala).
