About the property

Cottage in Le Grau d'Agde, - on the Herault River, 5 Minutes Walk to the Beach

L'Ermatage sur le Mer (secluded cottage by the sea) is situated in the quaint fishing village of Grau d’Agde (which has a wonderfully eclectic daily market), where the River Herault meanders down to the Mediterranean Sea. As you leave the cottage you can stroll down the river with its cafés, floating restaurants and boat trips. Just beyond you reach the sandy beach of which flies two EU blue flags for quality and environment. For a little more excitement, within a 10 minute drive there is an Aqua park, fun fair, Casino, Aquarium, Go-carting and many sport complexes. There are many Golf courses in the area; the closest Cap D'Agde golf course is a 5 minute drive. Others close by are Golf St Thomas and Lamalou Les Bains - one public and one private. Details are available on request. Or you can wonder the historical cobbled streets of Agde and Pezinas musing at the artists painting or pick up a bargain in the many antique shops. To top it all the wine isn't bad in this area either.

About Allison Robinson

Hi, we are a family that fell in love with the Languadoc area of France after a holiday near Carcassonne in 2007. We live in North London and have two teenage boys and a very naughty dog called Eddie. After looking at many houses and villages our cottage was the last we saw. It was perfect for all of us, close enough to the beach but far enough for a peaceful lounge in the garden. We travel to Grau d'Agde as often as we can as it is home from home. The local people have made us so welcome even though we seem to always bring the British wether with us (what do they expect in January). As a family we think we have the best of both worlds we love our life in England and we love our little piece of France too.

Allison Robinson purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Allison Robinson chose Le Grau d'Agde

We chose our cottage as it ticked all our requirements. I love good restaurants and lazing with a book under shady trees. My husband loves Golf, Tennis and water-sports, as does my oldest (16yr old) son. My Younger son is an explorer and loves the river and skateboarding up and down the promenade. The house is cool and airy and we have had many happy times with other families without feeling cramped. The central location is perfect to drive and explore the whole of the Languadoc area.

What makes this cottage unique

The unique benefit of our property is that it is not in a complex area, it is one of the original fisherman's cottages near the river. This offers the river, Beach and village centre all within a 5 minute walk. It is quiet but not too far from the buzz of the village with the bars and restaurants. The house has private parking within the gate for up to 5-7 cars (depending on size). It is close to the airport and rail station. The village has just had an enormous amount of money spent on improvements and the atmosphere is definitely one that is changing for the better but luckily for us it will never lose its charm.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We really enjoyed our stay in you holiday home and thought it very comfortable and stylishly decorated. We had a great time and appreciated the convenience of all the amenities and close proximity of the beaches! Andy also enjoyed the fishing and the motorbike festival that was on at the time of our visit. - Sam.

We had a fab time at your villa everything was great, really well stocked kitchen and lots of outdoor games etc. The villa was charmingly refurbished with very nice interior design. I loved the shutters and the lovely typically French window dressings. Weather was good to us too. - Lesa

Will be sad to leave lovely home and great weather. It has gone so quickly! Judith.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay; our only complaint is that your photos do not do the property justice. My family loved our holiday so much, we would like to book again for next year. - Sean 2010

The house is comfortable, spacious and clean. It's a very short walk to the Herault river and from there only 5 minutes to the market or the beach front. Plenty of restaurants. The garden was great for outdoor dining and the pool was a plus when the temperature soared. It's well placed for a visit to Carcassonne or Pézenas - both well worth a visit.

Grau d'Agde

There is no need for a car or bus everything is within walking distance. The cottage is a stone’s throw from the Herault River with its cafés and boat trips and if you keep walking for a further few minutes you will reach the sandy beaches and sparkling azure Mediterranean Sea. Agde flies two EU blue flags for the quality of its beaches and environment. The beach is perfect for all ages. There is both deep sea and river fishing. Or just relax in beach fron cafe's.

Access to the area couldn’t be easier: Bezier vias Airport 10 minutes, Montpellier Airport is 40 minutes, Carcassonne Airport 1 hour, Perpignan Airport 45 minutes. Agde station on main line is 5 minutes away, 7 hours from London St Pancras by TGV. (1 change). All the budget car hire companies are easily accessed from the airports and train stations. Or take the beautiful drive down through the centre of France, the roads are generally uncrowded and the views are breathtaking.

All shops, restaurants, bars, cafes are within 5/10 minutes walking distance. Although you may need to prise yourself from the tranquillity of the cottage, here are a few areas I would recommend, travel times are by car; Agde city – 5 mins. Cap d Agde – 5 mins. Pezinas – 15 mins. Sete – 20 mins. Carcassonne – 1 hour. Collioure – 1.5 hour.
