Holiday get together with our two adult sons

  • 4 of 5

Very nice village location very handy for Carcassonne. Lovely secluded garden and very nice kidney shaped pool. Unfortunately it was quite windy when we were there so we didnt get to use the pool as often as we would have liked. Very pleasing sheltered area and BBQ. Internally the bathroom and bedrooms were very nice although the kitchen felt a little tired. Otherwise the holiday was great and Bryan the English handyman locally was very nice and helpful giving us advice as well on directions etc etc. The only major concern we had was around security. There are bars on some of the windows but at the back there was no fence and open access to a public footpath. The doors to the property were not secure and it was necessary to lock the shutters each time we left the property as we had laptops etc and there was no safe. Having said that, we never felt there was any real threat and everyone we met was very nice and friendly. Overall a terrific property with just really the security and maybe the kitchen stopping it being 5 stars in our view.

Owner's Response: I am delighted that overall you like our home and thanks so much for taking the time to write a review. I just want to make a couple of comments, not to undermine your opinion, but to clarify for other parties reading this review. In the South of France the shutters are the locks making them the primary source for securing properties. Shutters have the dual purpose of securing the property and keeping it cool in summer. It is normal practice to always lock shutters each time you leave any property. Keeping out the heat is so vital that the French in the village never have their shutters open even when at home. The windows in our property with bars and without shutters do not receive any direct sunlight. Also I would like to emphasise that it isn’t a public footpath but a private road for use of the 8 people that have allotments on the river bank and the property isn’t visible from this path. I understand your comments about the kitchen. We have renovated most of the property except the kitchen (although the appliances are new). I think that installing a modern bathroom especially makes the traditional oak kitchen look dated. However it is a typical French country kitchen and I would loathe to remove all French character from the house. Maybe one day.

Amazing villa

  • 5 of 5

This is a fantastic property with absolutely everything you would need for your stay. We were a family of 5 adults and had plenty of space. The villa is set in a beautiful village and lots of amenities on your doorstep. We ate at the Legoril restaurant twice during our stay and the food was amazing. There is also a bar and another little restaurant in the village itself. Amazing place and having the pool was an added bonus. Loved it that much we have booked again for next year. Thanks again Debbie!

Fantastic

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing week in late September at this villa, a very stylish, spacious & comfortable home. Our stay was made all the more perfect by the amazing pool, village and boulangerie. Plenty of fun activities close by to keep children & grown ups entertained & tired out. A great place for families and with a barbecue in the garden and a swimming pool it was hard to leave the place to explore the amazing surroundings.

Absolutely Superb!

  • 5 of 5

Couldn't believe we were fortunate enough to find such an amazing place to stay for our stay in France.

Never having booked a property rental before I was slightly dubious but I was not disappointed. From the moment we arrived I was very impressed with the location a very short dive from the airport and the house was very welcoming. The bedrooms and living areas and kitchen were all spotless and more than sufficient space wise for the 5 of us staying (3 adults and 2 children). The swimming pool completely spoilt us and it would be hard to go elsewhere after the amazing holiday we had. The house it ideally located for travelling and trips to Limoux Narbonne, Collieure and Perpignan did not seem that far and I would recommend these as places to go as there is something for everyone both young and old.

A fantastic holiday and place to stay and thanks to the wonderful owners Deborah and Jonathan for making it a holiday to remember. Planning my booking for next year already!

Amazing!

After coming back from staying in this modern interior, rustic french villa, I felt it was a MUST to praise this truly wonderful holiday! Carcassonne minutes away - which I recommend must be visited! Villa with very comfy beds, and lovely pool area to lounge around! The village also includes authentic french bakeries and beautiful views! Absolutely wonderful week, will 100% be back!

Highly recommended.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here last year and we would highly recommend it,we loved every minute of it,such a fantastic holiday.

The house is lovely, situated off a quiet road in the picturesque village of Pennautier,it is a good sized property inside and out although the latter is where we enjoyed spending most of our time,we just loved having our croissants and coffee by the pool in the morning and local wine and food in the evening.

My partner, four year old daughter and me had countless hours of enjoyment in the pool and just relaxing out the back in the secluded garden which got the sun all day...there's a BBQ area also which is great if you fancy doing a bit of cooking,we were there in mid September and the weather was still very good, about 20 degrees Celsius/68 Fahrenheit each day.

We hired a car during our stay from the airport, which is only a short drive away,as is Carcassonne and it's old Cite, which is simply stunning, night or day.

The medieval fortress today houses shops and restaurants for you to enjoy which we did on a few separate occasions.

Having the car gave us great freedom to explore the surrounding areas, from some fantastic vineyards to beautiful drives taking in the coast and other villages,Jonathan and Deborah were a great help in naming some interesting places to visit,Rennes le Chateau and the coastal town of Sete to name but a few.

There is a lot to do in this part of France and is great equally if you just want to take it easy and unwind,we would certainly return in the future, our little daughter often talks about our time there,I think she misses the private pool more than anything but she's not the only one!

Anyway,I don't often write reviews but have been meaning to give a little insight into this place as I believe it is worth a mention,I would certainly recommend and we hope to deal with Jonathan and Deborah again in the near future as we all would love to return to this beautiful place.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Tradition French style house. Tiled floor throughout living area. Open fire. Electric heating. Sorry but strictly no smoking inside the property. Pennautier is a very pretty traditional village. It has a lot to offer, its proximity to Carcassonne not withstanding. The back garden and pool area are completely private and not overlooked. The only sounds usually heard in the garden are the church chimes, or the waterfall of the Fresquel which flows around the village. The bouledrome on the banks of the Fresquel is where the locals meet daily for their boules matches. There are a number of wine producers in Pennautier who all welcome visitors to sample their wine. The grounds to the Chateau are open to visitors and tours are available. The Chateau restaurant is in the beautiful converted sheep shed which also serves as a winery. You can sample the wines and then chose the ones you want to accompany your meal. There is another excellent reasonably priced village restaurant. Outside: South facing garden (gets the sun all day). Private pool with jacuzzi area. Poolside terrace. Shaded terrace area. Table, chairs, reclining sunbeds. Large stone bbq and assortment of outdoor lighting. Garden over 130 meters long - assortment of garden games available. The pool is maintained but all garden pools are subject to the impact of bad weather. Utility Room: Washing machine, fridge freezer, ironing board, iron, cool box. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen, towels (not for the beach) and end of stay clean included in price. Additional cleaning or linen changing available at extra cost. Other: TV in bedroom does not receive programme but used for playing dvds. A cot and high chair are available
