La Lande is a tastefully restored, French 18th century character farmhouse with 2 large beautifully appointed, well equipped holiday cottages and bed and breakfast accommodation. About the Owner
After many years of holidaying in France with our children we decided to take early retirement and do something different and enjoyable.
Paul is a retired Headteacher and prior to that he was head of Physical Education. I am an ex Midwife, Health Visitor and was an Assistant Principal of a College.
We have two children and four little grandchildren.
We bought LaLande because it is perfect for family holidays. Safe stunning beaches, a pretty village and beautiful countryside.
We believe that holidays are very precious. A special time for families to do the things they want to away from all the everyday pressures of modern living. We want parents and children to have a quality holiday, in a quality gite leaving fully recharged, refreshed with special memories to take home.

Are only bad thing was that we didn't stay in same place for second week .Can not fault our stay absolutely beautiful place to stay . Close to every thing , and hospitality was great. Games and loads off room around place for kids to play but very safe. We got even to see a young wild deer one night as we where driving in that was special. Would highly recommended to all age groups as long as you have a car this is the place to be.
We stayed at La Lande with our granchildren. Barn Owl is beautiful, it is more than a home from home, the grandchildren loved the toys and books and had a wonderful time playing in the garden. The nearby beaches are clean and safe and La Lande's proximity to Cherbourg make it a great place to introduce your grandchildren to France without enduring a long drive.
From the Owner
“La Lande offers the perfect location for families. Hidden away with no road noise or passing traffic yet near to a charming village, shops, beaches and historical attractions. The Gardens are huge with areas dedicated to football, trampolines, secret gardens and areas to relax with a good book and glass of wine.”
Activity and Interests
Fabulous, clean, often deserted sandy beaches are plentiful in Manche. Choose from the many west coast Atlantic beaches, for swimming, surfing, sailing etc, from the Cap De La Hague down to Mont St Michel. Our closest beach (15 minutes) is at Carteret from where the boat sails daily to Jersey and there's a great little town there with lots of outstanding restaurants. Barneville Beach, Portbail, Hatainville & Surtainville are also within 20 minutes drive. The D-Day landing beaches are very close.
Brittany Ferries from Poole/Portsmouth to Cherbourg (20 minutes drive from La Lande) or Portsmouth to Caen (an hour's drive from La Lande). Approx 4 hours drive from the tunnel at Calais. Airports at Rouen, Caen, Dinard and Rennes. A car is recommended in Normandy as there is loads to see and do, spread out over a large area; although if you like cycling, the routes (many off-road) are great too.
Bricquebec; just under a mile. Several good restaurants and bars. A huge Monday market (the region's biggest) and a chateau. Also a museum and two large supermarkets. Valognes is just up the road (approx 12 mins drive) and is worth a visit. The market there is on a Friday. St Sauveur Le Vicomte is 15 minutes away with it's chateau, a huge forest with 8 or 9km of walks though it. Lots more info on our own website.
Normandy is a lovely place to visit at any time of year. Almost no crowds, lovely warm summer weather (we enjoy similar temperatures and climate to Jersey), miles and miles of great beaches, clean warm seas, plus loads of other things to do. The French are welcoming and proud to share their gorgeous country with visitors and any attempt at speaking French, however small, is met with enthusiasm, although you may not always understand their responses! The tourist office in Bricquebec has a comprehensive array of brochures and pamphlets on things to do in the area. There are several banks in Bricquebec; all with ATM machines. Banks are closed on Mondays in this region. Cherbourg's huge shopping park at La Glacerie with Auchan the hypermarket is 15 minutes drive from La Lande and its about 20 minutes from here into the centre of the city. Loads to do in Cherbourg, including an aquarium & a submarine at Cite De La Mere, underground caves, 3 great indoor swimming pools with slides and water chutes, bowling, cinemas (the Odeon shows films in their original language with subtitles), lots of restaurants, shops and tourist info. Mont St. Michel is about an hour and a half away by car; many of our visitors have done a day trip down there and it's very well worth a visit. There's a gorgeous zoo at Champrepus (under an hour) where you get to mingle with the lemurs in their enclosure; Closer is the little zoo at St. Martin where children can feed the animals, as well as also enjoy shetland pony rides and cart drives.

Fresh eggs available daily from our free range chickens (subject to hens! They do sometimes go off lay!) Previous guests have commented on how lovely it is for their children to be able to play outside, in so much safe space. We are a short walk, via a lane, from the Voie Verte, or Green Way which is a network of miles of disused railway lines throughout Manche, which have been converted to walking and cycle paths. It's a great place for safe, off road cycling and an excellent way to explore the area.
