Peaceful Corner Location (Not Overlooked), Table Tennis: Mountain Bikes: WiFi: Large Solar Heated Pool.

We are Paul & Haiying and invite you to consider our charming villa this year for your holiday on the Costa Brava.

Casa Albera has been successfully let to many wonderful guests since 2008 with Owners Direct who have kindly given stunning reviews.

We are excited to have our villa with Owners Direct again this year and have included the option of day sailing aboard our 33ft sailing yacht Sandra of Kip, exploring the bays and coves in and around the Bay of Roses for just €500 for maximum of 4 people

OUR DETACHED VILLA NEAR ROSES | *CASA ALBERA*, is set in Stunning Surroundings on the Upper Reaches of Can Isaac, Palau Saverdera just 10 Minutes from Roses and the Beaches . The villa is bathed in Sunlight all day until the sun sets over the distant Pyrenees during the evening.

We offer our guests a personal warm welcome and a 30 minute guided tour on arrival if required showing the main points such as local village shops, chemist, restaurants and bank in the village before a 5 minute drive to Roses and our favourite supermarkets, health care centre, attractions, beach and more restaurants.

A Contemporary Spanish Villa, (BUILT to Modern Standards in 2009)

Fabulous Views: South Facing, Bathed in Sunlight All Day: Amazing Sunsets: Quiet corner location (not overlooked). 10 minutes walk to the charming village of Palau Saverdera:

Escape the crowds and relax with just the sound of the birds for company.

Also enjoy the Pool overlooking the Pyrenees or play Water Volley Ball: New (2015) Aluminium Designer Sun Loungers: Table Tennis: Mountain Bikes: WiFi:

We are just 30 minutes by car from Girona airport and Perpignan airport.

Can Isaac: is located on a sunny South-facing hillside in the foothills of the Pyrenees, with National Park all around. It is an ideal location to escape the crowds, but only 5 minutes’ drive to the fishing port of Roses and the nearest beaches, restaurants and supermarkets.

The nearest beach is less than 10 minutes’ drive away at Santa Margarita but there are many other large sandy beaches and smaller coves for you to discover, all within 15 / 30 minutes from the villa.

Nestled in the foothills of the Cap de Creus National Park. Casa Albera enjoys far reaching views towards the Bay of Roses to the South and the Pyrenees to the West.

Our modern villa is well designed being very light and airy with far reaching panoramic views from all the living areas and especially the outside spaces, we have fitted the lounge and dining area with contemporary solid oak furniture finished in natural blonde oak colour.

All bedrooms have air-conditioning and French doors which open onto the Pool Terrace.

Wi-Fi is available throughout the villa and outside on the pool terrace.

UK Sky TV can be enjoyed on our new flat screen TV in the lounge.

Outside is the 9m x 4.5m Solar heated pool, set in the centre of the plot with far reaching views of the Pyrenees. Escape the crowds and enjoy our large pool, with fabulous sunsets over the Pyrenees during your holiday.

Gardens surround the villa on all sides, with the National park adjoining our boundary wall!

Palau Saverdera: is a charming, traditional Catalan village with its own wine cooperative, a couple of small supermarkets, butchers, bakers, chemist, bank (with ATM) and a good selection of restaurants all within a short walk from Casa Albera.

Nou Fusion: is another excellent restaurant located at the entrance to Can Isaac with a large outdoor dining area with far reaching panoramic views over the Bay of Roses and Emporda Marshes. There is also a tennis/paddle club in Can Isaac, close to the villa, within walking distance to enjoy a drink or something to eat in a relaxing atmosphere with soft music.

A large selection of shops including supermarkets, produce markets and a huge choice of bars, restaurants and clubs are just a few minutes’ drive away in Roses, and Santa Margarita which are both bustling with holidaymakers during July and August.

Figueres: is about 20 minutes by car, is a traditional town where you will find the main Salvador Dali museum. Other historic towns and villages are all around.

Girona: is about 40 minutes by car and is well worth visiting, especially the historic part of the city.

Aqua Brava: water park is about 5 minutes’ drive and is great fun for all the family.

Empuriabrava: is approximately 15 minutes away. Here you can hire a boat to explore the canals, or try sky diving either from a plane or in the new vertical indoor wind tunnel.

The Bay of Roses: is a beautiful bay of sandy beaches stretching from L'Escala to Roses. The beaches vary from sheltered family stretches, with lifeguards, sunbeds and all facilities, to wild natural areas where the windsurfers and kite-surfers come to play. An ancient Greek and Roman harbour wall on a beach of white sand at Sant Marti close to historic ruins is situated at the western end of the bay, well worth exploring during your stay!

The Cap De Creus: with its stunning rocky coves and sandy beaches, a snorkeler’s paradise is approximately 15 minutes’ drive through breath-taking scenery. Take a drive to the lighthouse at the most Easterly point in Spain where it really does feel like “the end of the world”.

If you love dining out, you are spoiled for choice in this area. The world number 1, El Celler de Can Roca, is in Girona but you need to book early! Closer to Roses and Figueres there are any number of traditional restaurants and in the local villages or along the sea front serving fish caught that morning and fresh local ingredients.

Another popular seaside town is Cadaques, where you can see the former home of Salvador Dali which is now a museum. Cadaques features on thousands of Costa Brava postcards and the town is full of artist's shops and good restaurants, also a nice beach.

To the North of Roses you will find an unspoilt headland with spectacular scenery and small coves, perfect for snorkelling in the clear waters of the Mediterranean, including Cala Montjoi where you can see the former world famous restaurant of El Bulli.

There is a very large protected area of natural wetlands within a few minutes’ drive. The 'Aiguamolls de l'Alt Emporda' are an important habitat for many species of birds and very popular with birdwatchers, walkers and cyclists.

Golf: The nearest course is at Perelada (18 holes, par 71, 5990m) which is 15 kilometres

or 20 minutes’ drive. Other major courses include: Torremirona, 30km or 40 minutes. Playa de Pals, PGA Golf de Catalonia, Emporda, all within 1 hour.

Other Activities: Sky diving, Aqua Brava water park, go-karts, horseriding, all water sports, cycling, tennis etc.

Getting there: Girona Airport (Ryanair) 45mins. Perpignan Airport - France (Ryanair) 1 hour. Barcelona (All major airlines) 2 hours.

TGV: the fast train is now direct from Paris to Figueres station.

Roses: is just 30 minutes' drive from the French border. Driving from Calais for example takes about 12 hours (750 miles).

Casa Albera is a south-facing hillside retreat in the foothills of the Pyrenees. From our villa you can walk into the sleepy traditional Catalan village of Palau Saverdera (10-15 minutes) where you can find local shops and good restaurants or take a morning coffee. It also has its own wine cooperative if you want to sample local wines and olive oils!

About Paul & Haiying Kennard

I am a British Furniture maker / designer living in Catalonia with my School Teacher wife Haiying.

We met during my time in China producing furniture for NEXT PLC and now enjoy working from home and exploring the coastline and local villages around Catalonia during our free time.

Paul & Haiying Kennard purchased this villa in 2008

Why Paul & Haiying Kennard chose Alt Emporda

I found and purchased 'Casa Albera' after a 5 year search in Spain for my dream home. The location and the views are just stunning and worth all the effort. This part of Spain has everything, the weather, natural beauty surrounded by National Parks, mountains, numerous unspoilt villages just minutes from the villa and of course the Mediterranean with dozens of unspoilt beaches with stunning backdrops nested in the foothills of the Pyrenees, with the advantage of only being 30 minutes from France and close to Barcelona.

What makes this villa unique

I enjoy the weather, food and tranquil setting of this corner of Spain. Being able to drive from the U.K. and not having to fly has many added benefits for me.

Relaxing on the terrace admiring the inky black sky full of bright stars during the warm summer nights after the heat of the Mediterranean sun are moments I will always cherish and feel privileged to have found Casa Albera and call it home.

Fantastic villa and location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great holiday at Casa Albera in mid April 2016. The villa has fantastic views and is spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The pool was a little cool at this time of year for the adults but that didn't stop the children taking full advantage of it. We contented ourselves with taking in the magnificent views and peaceful surroundings.

There is plenty to do in the area and the local shops and amenities are excellent. Great holiday and hope to return at some point. Thanks Paul and Haiying. Dave

Owner's Response: It was a great pleasure to welcome David and his family to Casa Albera for their Spring holiday. They chose a great week for weather allowing the pool to warm up enough for their two young sons to enjoy being the first swimmers at Casa Albera 2016, well done boys! We are very pleased that our on-line guide to some of the local attractions helped David and family to choose some other interesting activities close to the villa during their stay, especially the Roman ruins at St Marti, and the beautiful fishing village of Cadaques. Thank you for choosing Casa Albera and for being such easy going and wonderful guests. All the best from Paul and Haiying Casa Albera April 2016

a great week in a great villa

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed a great week at Palau Saverdera. The villa is spacious and well equipped, and the balcony with its great views over the valley was a big hit. the aircon in the bedrooms was a godsend as it was very hot during our stay. We enjoyed the BBQ too.

The villa is wonderfully located not far from Roses but also near all the main routes north and south.

Paul was very helpful on arrival and during our stay; thanks Paul for a lovely villa.

Great villa in quiet setting with superb views

  • 5 of 5

The villa met all our expectations and more. Despite being on the edge of Can Isaac, it feels wonderfully isolated, with stunning views from the delightful balcony and the pool area. The owner provided excellent customer service both around the booking time and during our stay. The location is perfect for excursions in this lovely area of the Costa Brava (highlights were the Dali museum/houses, Cadaques/Port Lligat, Cap de Creus (by car and on a catamaran to snorkel), Empuries Ruins, Bezalu, Girona, San Pere de Rodes Monastry, and the beaches, + a day trip to Barcelona when we had to pick up a guest at the airport). I would definitely recommend.

Owner's Response: Well, meeting such wonderful people and settling them in to Casa Albera each summer makes all the preparation work so worthwhile! Annick and family were a real delight and obviously enjoyed the romance and tranquillity as much as Haiying and I do being so privileged to live in such a beautiful part of the Spain. Thank you Annick for your kind appraisal and your loving care of our villa during your stay which gives me great delight and the added incentive to prepare for next season and the chance of meeting more wonderful people. Kindest Regards Paul and Haiying

quiet with great views

  • 5 of 5

We spent great holidays in the villa. Paul is very helpful with his villa. There are very nice view to the sea and to the hills. Villa is on a side of an urbanisation, at its top, so it is very quiet. Best souvenir is bbq from the covered terrasse, drinking spanish wine while kids play in the pool.

wonderful villa in peaceful setting

  • 4 of 5

We always look for a villa with good facilities in a peaceful setting and this villa provided all of that and more. The villa was clean and well equipped with plenty of outdoor space to relax and enjoy the views. In fact after several busy days in Barcelona we felt so comfortable at the villa that, despite our plans to explore the area, we spent most of the week by the pool, playing table tennis and sitting outside on the terrace The restaurant in the village is excellent; only a short stroll away it has great food and wonderful views from the terrace. Paul is very friendly and helpful and is clearly keen to make sure that his guests have an enjoyable stay.

Coast/Beach:

The area around Cap de Creus has some of the most scenic coastlines in Spain. All water sports are catered for especially scuba diving, windsurfing, and more recently kite surfing. Many beaches are just 10-20 minutes by car from 'Casa Albera' small coves can also be explored by boat or by driving the scenic coast road to the French Border, stopping at places like Cadaqueas or Port de la Selva on the way for a sumptuous seafood lunch.

Travel:

Airports: Barcelona-1 hour 40 min (Britsh Airways). Girona 35 min (Ryan Air). Perpignan 40 min (Ryan Air). A car is essential.

Distances:

Palau Saverdera 5-8 min walk or 3 min drive. Service Station 2 mins by car. Supermarket 4 mins by car. Driving: Roses 8-10 min. Figueres 20 min. Barcelona 90 min. Andorra 2 hours plus. Empuries 30 mins. Train Barcelona 1 hour and 20 mins.

Pyrenees Weather Overview: The Pyrenees is an excellent all year-round destination so when you visit depends on what you would like to do. The walking season in the Pyrenees starts in mid June and ends in late September. This is good time for cycling, horse riding and more extreme sport like rafting, hang gliding or parachuting. The Parc Natural de L'Albera was granted protected status in 1986, creating safe havens for indigenous flora and fauna and helping to preserve an unspoilt environment of sheer escarpments and hidden villages.

Perfect walking country, or for roaming by car, the region is home to secluded monastic ruins, Neolithic dolmens and a stunning variety of wildlife, including tortoises, a protected species of Albera cow, golden eagles and wild boar.
