Holiday Home in Kini, Syros Island, Cyclades, Greece - Peaceful Location, West-facing, 5 Minutes Walk to Beach

A simple, peaceful house with stunning coastal views across neighbouring islands, located in a quiet hamlet above a secluded beach on the western side of the island. The house sleeps six: four in the main house and two in the studio flat, which is below the main house and has its own entrance and facilities. There are four terraces around the house, providing shade throughout the day. The largest terrace has cushion seats and a marble table with a shade canopy, perfect for al fresco eating. It has views across Kini bay and along the coast to the northern part of the island. There is a parking area next to the house. The nearest beach at Lotos is immediately below the house. It is quiet and sandy, secluded and shady, with safe bathing. About ten minutes’ walk away is the larger beach at Kini, a seaside village with local shops, waterfront tavernas, and cafes.

perfect view

we've had a wonderful time in marathia and highly recommend the house to all those looking for a comfortable, quiet place to spend their vacation. the view is absolutely breathtaking and since the kitchen also has a window to the sea, even dish washing feels like an enjoyable activity. with several balconies and terraces to chose from, you will always find a sunny/shady, windy/protected spot to sit outside and dive into the view. gorgeous!

Beautiful views, silent and peaceful place

  • 5 of 5

This is the fifth time I come to this house and I can't imagine a better place to stay in the whole island of Syros.

The views through the sea and the sunset are unforgettable, the house is always clean and prepared in time and the furniture is delicate and tasteful. The atmosphere of the house is warm and it looks like it has been made with patience, handmade works and a lot of love.

A wonderful home in a charming location

  • 5 of 5

Very confortable House, a beautiful location at a lovely village. We mostly enjoyed our breakfasts and dinners with stunning views to The Aegean Sea. It's localed near a small and almost private beach. There are great and conveniently close resturants where to have dinner at low price.

Perfect place for a relaxing family holiday

  • 4 of 5

We had a great 10-day stay. The sea views were indeed stunning and there are two terraces for dining and enjoying the sunset. We were a party of 5 and the accommodation was perfect for us. Property was clean and well-equipped. Easy to arrange arrival and departure. Easy and convenient to arrange car hire in nearby Kini. The nearby beaches in Kini, Delfina and Galissas were excellent and not too crowded. My youngest daughter snorkeled to her heart's content. Ermoupoli is just lovely and easy to find great restaurants. Forget Mykonos, Syros rules!

Stayingat Marathia, Loto, Kini

Wonderful views of the sea, calm and tranquil but a little short of water which is compensated by all the above!

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your review. Just to respond on the water issue: until 2016 the house water supply was solely via rainwater collected in a tank under the house which was then pumped into the house. We still have this system as water is such a precious commodity in the summer months. However, we now also have a mains water supply and the pressure is much improved.

What a fantastic property & location

  • 5 of 5

WOW-The views are something special. You will not be disappointed.

Stayed with my wife, son & daughter upstairs, and the father in law stayed in his own apartment below.

You are positioned directly above Lotos beach, but also overlook the popular village of Kini. We preferred the beach of Lotos as it was much quieter, even though it did not have sun beds there were a few parasol and the property has ample towels for you to take down to the beach.

We really did love our stay here and will definitely return. I asked the whole family for their views out of 5. My wife and children voted it a 4 due to the facilities, they are basic but still are very ample. we never quite worked out how to get a good wash from the washing machine and we did incur a power cut when both upstairs and downstairs put the ovens on at the same time. I gave it a 5 as I really thought the property and location were superb. So we would give it a collective 4.5 out of 5.

The air conditioning is worth its weight in gold as I did not foresee how warm it would be, even though you are that close to the sea I expected a breeze, unfortunately we never felt any breeze and Syros is definitely warm!.

Nigel makes the booking process very easy and arranges for a nice local lady to meet you on arrival.

I would recommend this property to anyone of all ages, but please be aware the property is located on a raised position so it may not suite anyone with walking difficulties.

I could not fault the property or location and hope to return very soon.

Ian & family

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your kind review of our house. Just to let future guests know that we have installed a new washing machine. We have also installed solar heating for hot water, so there is no longer any potential overload on the electrical circuit. The views really are lovely!

Location

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Syros at 3 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : Ermoupolis at 3 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Kini at 0.5 Kilometres Car: not necessary

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beach is immediately below the house. It is quiet and sandy, secluded and shady, with safe bathing. About 10 minutes walk away is the larger beach at Kini, a seaside village with waterfront tavernas and cafes. You can also get a boat from Kini to the island's secluded northern beaches. About ½ hour walk along the coast from Kini is the beach of Delphini. The resort of Galissas is also not far.

Travel:

From the UK we recommend flying Easyjet from Gatwick or Luton to Mykonos, from where you catch a ferry to Syros (c.40 mins). Alternatively, you can fly to Athens and then take a train or bus to the port of Piraeus and pick up a ferry to Syros – the ferry takes about 4 hours. There is a faster (and more expensive) hydrofoil ferry, but sitting on the deck of the slower ferry can be a very pleasant way to start your holiday. The ferries are all excellent and are very reliable.

Distances:

It is a ten minute walk to Kini, which has local shops, tavernas and cafes, with a bus service to the island capital of Ermoupolis (about 20 minutes), from where buses serve most of the island villages and beaches. Taxis are plentiful and very reasonably priced. If you want to travel around more, it is best to hire a small car or motor bike. Arrangements can be made for guests to be collected from the port or airport by taxi. Car hire can be arranged.

Further Details:

The ‘capital’ of the Cyclades, Syros was once the wealthiest and most important trading centre in the Aegean. Unique in having a large Roman Catholic population, it still retains much of its former grandeur in the form of classical town houses and 19th Century buildings. At the heart of town is the magnificent Miaoulis Square with its imposing town hall, and there is even an opera house. Ermoupolis has lots of shops and a busy harbour lined with waterfront cafes and tavernas offering an exciting and vibrant evening atmosphere. There are interesting walks around the town and particularly up to the old town of Ano Syros, with its tiny houses climbing up to the hilltop cathedral. Away from the busy port, the island has lots of sandy beaches and the largely undeveloped northern part of the island has dramatic mountain scenery. There are many mountain and coastal walks around the island. In addition, Syros has regular boat services to many other islands in the Cyclades including Mykonos and Tinos and the very beautiful and historic Delos.
