About the Owner

Richard and I live in the north east and spend much of our time at a local sailing club on the North Yorkshire coast near Whitby. Richard is in shipping and I am a school adviser. With both our sons married, we enjoy family time at the villa with our two grand children. We enjoy walking in the winter with our black Labrador and a bit of skiing on the North Yorkshire moors. We all spend as much time at the villa as we can - which is why we don't rent out for many months of the year. We fell in love with the area 6 years ago - Ben actually proposed in Sevilla- it is far removed from the English influences on other Costas- we prefer the very traditional Spanish tapas bars, local seafood, fish and sherry. We are trying hard to improve our Spanish but the locals are very kind and helpful!

A first class villa in a beautiful part of Spain

  • 5 of 5

having spent a number of holidays in the Costa de la Luz in apartments we decided to try a Villa and were not disappointed. The villa was more than a holiday home it was clearly a 'home' too, with all the amenities we would have ourselves. It was very clean and well described on the brochure. The pool is in excellent condition and the views over the plains toward Trebujena a delight on an evening. There is a really good bar nearby run by Fernando who's wife Rosa cooks excellent local seafood.

There is a reliable taxi service into town or you could walk into the old town which takes about 45 minutes - we love to enjoy Spanish night life in the old towns and went into Sanlucar de Barrameda most nights and some days. Normally we would have spent a night or two in Seville but didn't feel the need on this holiday with so much to see around about.

There are a number of similar villas on either side but they didn't impact on our holiday noise wise

The golf course had just reopened and clearly needs some TLC, but they were working hard on the course and we liked it enough to play a few rounds.

a big thanks to Joy who communicated well with us and answered all our questions promptly and in detail

Great accommodation, great coast and an area we will return to

Summer holiday with a difference

  • 5 of 5

Loved our holiday in Sanlucar de Barrameda-glorious weather yet only a short flight from uk. Sunbathing in the beautiful garden was my absolute favourite however the beach isn't far and worth a trip. Meals and drinks on the balcony overlooking the stunning national park was so relaxing, however there's also the local bar and in a short taxi ride the local town is great fun. It's not your typical tourist place but that's what makes it special and we had great fun with bar staff and the locals-there was a real buzz but be warned their measures are generous! The villa was easy to find with directions and was without doubt 5 star. Supermarkets nearby had everything you'd need including some delicious yet very cheap local wine, cava and pink gin! Certainly would like to go back.

Fabulous villa with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

This is an immaculately and tastefully presented villa in a beautiful setting with fabulous views of surrounding countryside. The villa had everything we needed for our stay and the pool was lovely. There are great places to eat in Sanlucar and lovely beaches just a few minutes drive away. This is a part of Spain with a rich history and we enjoyed visiting the nearby cities of Seville and Cadiz and also made a day trip to the spectacular Rock of Gibraltar. I could not recommend this villa more highly. We had a wonderful relaxing holiday and will certainly be back!

Beautifully appointed villa

  • 5 of 5

This villa is a hidden gem in Costa de la Luz enjoying expansive views. Inside very comfortable all round with superb deco and a luxurious feel. A real treat to eat on the terrace even though it was winter... Lovely swimming pool and gardens with peaceful surroundings. Excellent location from which to go to the beach or explore the countryside and nearby cities such as Cadiz and Seville. After a day at the beach or visiting the area we looked forward to returning to the comfort of the villa. We highly recommend it to families or couples.

From the Owner

Having only ever visited Costa Blanca and Coste del Sol -which we hated!! We were intrigued when a colleague told us about the unspoilt Spanish Costa de la Luz. We immediately fell in love with its Spanish history and traditions and NO English influence. We loved the wild beaches, traditional sherry bodegas and fabulous tapas bars- but most of all the people. They are friendly, polite, caring and genuinely enjoy our company even with our Spanglish! We have made many good friends- our best friend is now our property manager who will meet and greet you.We bought the villa off plan and having made friends with a local hotel owner he helped us to furnish it in a traditional Andalucian style. We visit regularly to check on the standard of the property and add furniture and furnishings.

Special interest holidays:

Horse riding, walking, surfing, windsurfing, sailing, kite surfing, fishing all nearby. It may be possible to arrange sailing trips from a near by port. Tarifa -1.5 hours drive is the european capital of kite surfing - also a fantastic spectator sport. There is lots of information in the villa about nearby activities and sports. Bull fights in the Sanlucar bull ring.

Costa de la Luz, the 'coast of light' is known for its wide-open beaches illuminated by dazzling sunlight and beautiful sunsets. A genuinely unspoilt costa, it has stunning scenery. The villa is a 5 minute drive to the beach and centre of the seaside town of Sanlucar. Take a stroll down to the beach at sunset and you will come face to face with the Gualdalquivir River where it in turn meets the Atlantic. This is the river that bore Columbus and McGellan out to sea on their great voyages.

Ryanair fly to Jerez from Stansted. Liverpool to Gibraltar. London to Sevilla. Thomas Cook fly into Gibralter from Manchester during the summer months. Many local UK airports fly to Malaga and Faro. We often travel from Malaga - just a two and half hour drive through some fantastic countryside. Car hire is recommended.

Jerez is 20 minutes drive, Cadiz 30 minutes, Sevilla 1 hours drive. Gibraltar 1.5 hours and Tarifa and surrounding beaches 1 - 2 hours drive. Malaga 2.5 hours drive. Tangers in Morocco is 30 minute ferry crossing from Tarifa. Easy access to miles of sandy beaches hosting a wide range of water sports especially popular are kite surfing, wind surfing and boogie bording. Close to mountains, lakes and forestry. Nearest beach is in Sanlucar itself and beaches for surfing just 20 minutes drive away.

Further Details:

Sanlucar de Barrameda is a delightful town, situated at the northern tip of the sherry triangle. Famous for its Manzanilla wine, which is traditionally drunk with the local seafood in the numerous tapas bars. The town is divided into the old quarter, the Barrio Alto where most of the old Moorish architecture can be found and the newer Barrio Bajo close to the river. In Plaza del Cabildo, a square lined with orange trees and framed by a pair of impressive pines;this is the heart of town life and a great place to sit and watch the world go by. Meet at the fountain and then choose a tapas bar that takes your fancy. Casa Balbino is always our first stop for tapas. It serves great mojama (cured tuna), the best tortillas de camarones (lace thin shrimp fritters), gambas, langostinos, lobster and a variety of fish, seafood and meat tapas. Slightly less manic is the Barbiana and Juanitos tapas bars with good house manzanilla and their own specialities. The Bajo de Guia is the area known for its water front seafood restaurants and trendy bars. The views are fantastic and the seafood is the freshest you will ever taste. There are many local bodegas producing their own versions of the famous manzanilla wine, most are open for guided tours and wine tasting everyday. The Feria de Manzanilla takes place in May 2008 and the famous Sanlucar horse racing along the miles of golden beach, dating back to 1498, takes place in August. Parque Nacional de Donana is a protected landscape. During spring, the park attracts millions of species of birds and many different kinds of animals including the lynx. Bull fights take place in the Plaza de Torros throughout the year. In the summer months Sanlucar is alive with music festivals and theatre groups. At the golf club bar and restaurant 'Chary' and her partner will make you feel very welcome, she serves home made local tapas and will supply you with fresh fish and BBQ requirements. There are currently 2 other bars on this new development.

From the Owner

The villa has fantastic views over the Donna National Park - birds including storks, kestrels, ibis and eagles are frequently seen close by. We have a local gardener who checks on the garden regularly although we do like to improve the garden each time we visit and add more plants. We like to think that you will find the villa completely equipped and we make sure that you do not have to buy basic essentials such as toilet rolls, soap, washing powder, tea and coffee when you arrive as so often happens with other rental properties. We also provide two pool towels each - (one is never enough) and beach chairs, although we do ask that you bring your own beach towels. There's plenty of line drying in the garden and the roof or if you visit in the cooler months we also have a tumble drier!
