Catalan country property offering a 2 bedroom gite, 1 independant studio and 3 bedrooms in main house with use of owners pool and beautiful gardens.

Everyone who loves food and wine will enjoy the genuine warmth and enthusiastic hospitality from Kevin and Maggie on their Catalan country property, just 12km from Perpignan. The village of Espira de l'Agly is a 25 minute walk away. It has a bar, a restaurant, a Spar supermarket, a butcher's/deli, post office and bakery. There are at least 8 restaurants within an 8km radius of Espira. An ideal base from which to explore the vineyards of the Languedoc Roussillon, as well as the castles and gorges of the Cathar country. The Mediterranean coastline is a mere 30 minute drive away and a little further south you will find, nestled in a bay, the old and picturesque port of Collioure, full of art galleries and colourful Catalan fishing boats and then beyond that across the border is the Costa Brava. Your hosts are always on hand to recommend restaurants, vineyards to visit and other places of interest.

2nd bedroom has adult-sized bunk beds and a portable clothes hanger.

Separate shower room and WC. Dining/kitchenette area has a table and 4 chairs, a 2 seater sofa, full-size fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, 2 ring gas hob, combination oven, grill, microwave and a full range of kitchen utensils.

Linen and bath and pool/beach towels supplied. Fans in bedrooms.

A television is available upon request.

Escape from it all!

I stayed at the courtyard apartment of Mas de Guilles with my wife and two young children. Maggie and Kevin were very welcoming and explained everything about the surrounding area. The apartment was wonderful, comfortable, and fully equipped and spotlessly clean, including a welcome pack and found our gite had a complementary bottle of wine, bowl of fruit, a couple of beers in the fridge, milk, tea & coffee plus other treats. There was a helpful pack of information on the local area such as when and where are the local markets, supermarkets, beaches and recommended restaurants - how to get there and back.. Kevin and Maggie were always available if needed and Kevins Apricot compote and home made coelslaw were to die for...yumm. Maggie looked after the fabulous pool and I have to say it is one of the most fantastic pools I have ever been in! The location is wonderful, an Intermarche a mere 5 mins away, on the outskirts of Rivesaltes, a lovely town with restaurants and watering holes aplenty and they had their fiesta during the time we were there. Cheap petrol and a large shopping area, with restaurants and cinema, about 10-15 mins away near the motorway junction. Wonderfull beaches along the coast approx 30-45 mins away, Torreilles being one of our favourites. The spanish border only 45-60-mins away and Figueres (Dali musuem) not that far, booking necessary. A vist to the seaside town of Collioure is highly recommended with beautiful buildings and lovely restaurants and located near to the sea. We loved our time at Maggie and Kevins and after our days out it was nice to come back to the peaceful haven that is Mas de Guilles. The garden project which is still ongoing, is wonderfull with numerous seating areas where you can sit and daydream in perfect peace. I enjoyed my chats with Paul, the gardener, who has performed miracles and is continuing to do so. Do not hesitate to visit it is a wonderful place and the only reason we are not going back next year is that we have only just discovered France and there is so much to see, so we are going elswhere on our discovery trail. Enjoy Mas de Guilles you will not be disappointed.

A Wonderful Holiday

We have visited this area twice before and love the culture, wine, picturesque landscapes and stunning beaches. The property is very conveniently located for exploring the whole area.

The gite (we stayed in the courtyard 2 bed gite) was clean and kitted out with everything you could want and much more. On arrival we were given refreshments and found our gite had a complementary bottle of wine, bowl of fruit, a couple of beers in the fridge, milk, tea & coffee plus other treats. There was a helpful pack of information on the local area such as when and where are the local markets, supermarkets, beaches and recommended restaurants - how to get there and back. The swimming pool was a good size and immaculately clean and maintained with sun loungers and parasols all surrounded by beautiful gardens. We had a choice of two outside tables for al fresco dining and a personal bbq area.

Kevin and Maggie are the perfect hosts. They gave advice on what and where to go, including maps with parking marked up and even where to buy great coffee to take home. We were also supplied with delectable food treats from their kitchen such as a bowl of ratatouille, coleslaw and preserves.

We will go back again soon and I would recommend a visit to anyone - individuals, couples and families - you will have a superb holiday.

lost in france

great rural location just a short walk from the village where you will find a spar shop. Very peaceful with beautiful well maintained gardens and an outdoor swimming pool.Friendly owners (who are very good at crossword puzzles) keep you well informed and my apartment contained everything you need for a perfect self catering holiday. The location is very convenient to Perpignon airport.

A great holiday

Thank you so much for a great week. Maggie & Kevin were so welcoming. Every day we were treated to a delicious culinary present from Kevin, a former chef. The pool was big and well exposed and a refreshing experience after a busy day visiting the region.

Good value, enjoyable family holiday.

Holiday

Good welcome from the owners, everything very clean and tidy. Nothing too much trouble. Excellent clean pool, lots of seating and relaxing areas in the grounds. Rooms quite small, suitable for two adults and children. Handy Boulangerie next door, and five minutes by car to local supermarket. Lots to do in the area, close to beaches and mountain valleys for walking, lots of local markets.

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beach is half an hour's drive away. From then on, there is a choice of either quiet and unspoilt beaches with the occasional little restaurant or there are holiday resorts/towns, and a few ports/marinas with shops, restaurants, cafes and bars with St. Cyprien, Argeles-sur-Mer and Canet-en-Rouissillon being the liveliest in July and August. The sandy Mediterranean beach stretches from Port Argeles all the way up to Narbonne and beyond.

Travel:

Montpelier 1 hr. 30 mins drive. Nearest airport Perpignan 7km.

Toulouse and Barcelona - just over 2 hours drive. Beziers, Carcassone and Girona about 1hr. 20 mins drive. Marseille -2hr 30 mins.

Distances:

With it's close proximity to Perpignan airport and easy access to the A9 autoroute, the Mas de las Guilles is ideally placed for house/property hunters. We are located just off the D117 which passes through the Cathar villages of Maury,Foix,Limoux, Rennes-le-Chateau and ends up at the magical cité of Carcassonne.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: There are fans in all bedrooms and full central heating in the courtyard apartment and the B&B accommodation. WIFI internet connection is available. Accommodation for 10/12 day packages comprising a mix of self-catering & B&B also possible (please enquire with owners). Outside: The self-catering accommodations have their own garden furniture for outside dining and gas-fired barbecues. There is a communal table with chairs in the courtyard and numerous chairs and sun loungers scattered around the grounds and under trees or parasols. Bed and breakfast guests are also welcome to use outside garden furniture for snacks and picnics. The owner's 10mx5m pool, which is in full sun all day long, is open from May to end of October. There are sun loungers and parasols by the pool.
