Villa in Riba de Mouro, Moncao, Costa Verde, Portugal - Tranquil Location On The Outskirts Of Peaceful Rural Village, 5 Minutes Walk To Secluded River Pool

This modern 2/3 bedroom wing within a stylish villa is set on the outskirts of a small hamlet in the foothills of the stunning Peneda Geres National Park. Walk along the wild trails of the mountain, among the wild horses and roaming long horn cattle typical of this region.

Nearby you can walk in winding undulating tracks amongst beautiful, ancient hillside villages. See years of ox cart wheel tracks cut deep into the small granite tracks, almost lost in time, traditional houses built into giant rocks and Roman roads and bridges still in use today, over two thousand years old in this stunning undiscovered area of Portugal. A rare chance to see locals still working the land as their forefathers did centuries ago.

This is a single apartment within the villa which we let therefore the property and the grounds are private to the holiday guests. It is a 2 / 3 bedroom apartment, comprising of two large double bedrooms which sleep 5 and a smaller single room which is optional. The main villa itself is usually only occupied when the owners visit, normally out of season, to carry out maintenance etc.

The property has large, bright airy rooms with quality finish and has central heating. There is a large indoor log fire/ BBQ in kitchen which is on the ground floor. 2 large bedrooms with option of 3rd bedroom if reqd, bathroom with shower and a cosy sitting room with glass door to large veranda with fantastic views over the fertile valley below on the top floor. Home cinema with picture projected onto sitting room wall with complete surround sound bringing the big screen cinema into your sitting room. Internet and Sat TV. Large lawns and rose garden. 11 x 4 heated private pool. Laundry and toilet/shower next to kitchen on ground floor. Large games room with table tennis and darts.

We love the outdoors, cycling, walking and helping out the locals, harvesting the grapes and corn. We could not think of a better place to stay, a real step back in time. The weather and scenery are fantastic and the local people are so friendly and welcoming, always ready to help if needed. We really enjoy the quality of life as it should be without the stress and complications of modern day living.To relax by the pool and enjoy the barbeque is such heaven surrounded by beautiful scenery and sunshine!

Why Eileen Oag chose North Portugal

We love this area which has so much to offer up on the outskirts of the National Park. The Villa is on the outskirts of a small hamlet so we have both the peace and tranquillity of the countryside but yet also close enough to the cafes and stores to walk so we are not too remote. We are 10 miles equidistant from the two main towns and also both of these towns are on the border to Spain. The countryside is similar to the west coast of Scotland being quite rugged and green but it is alot warmer, drier and not windy. It is easy to drive from the UK, catching the ferry from Portsmouth or Plymouth and sailing overnight to Santander in Spain with an 8 hour drive through beautiful scenic countryside on quiet dual carriageways to Moncao or Melgaco in Portugal.

What makes this villa unique

We love sitting outdoors on the upper veranda and look out over the small fields which surround us and watch the world pass by. There is so much to see each day as the locals tend their crops and lovingly care for their vines. The views are fantastic down into the valley which is lush and green with the river snaking its way along through the pastures below and the forests above teaming with wildlife.We can cycle and walk from our doorstep and spend hours enjoying the countryside and abundant wildlife or we can enjoy the back garden where we have the BBQ and swimming pool and is totally secluded from the front of the villa. We have an excellent butcher shop, open 8am to 8pm, with an english speaking assistant, a 15 min walk away. The local restaurant, run by two Portuguese sisters, is only a 10 minute walk away, serving excellent lunches and dinners at a very reasonable price and are open every day except Sundays. There are also two excellent restaurants 10 km away up the mountain.

Local bars, shops etc very friendly and very helpful to us non speaking Portuguese. Local people were a joy to meet & share time with. Will be back next year.

Everything was excellent for us as a family with five children. Private pool fantastic. Plenty of space outside for the kids to run around on the well kept lawns and around the pool.

Loved the privacy, riverpool with the huge rocks my older boys loved to dive off, cafe Cruzerio, Home Cinema big hit with the teenage children.

Beautiful place, away from the crowds and hustle and bustle. Loved exploring the mountains, with the abundance of wildlife and endless trails. The weather and scenery was fantastic. Pool and BBQ area was perfect and really enjoyed dining outside in the evening sunshine.

We had a fantastic stay. The pool was superb and the views stunning. We loved our meal in the restaurant in San Antonio. The villa was clean and spacious. We loved eating at the table on the balcony at the very top of the villa. The views both at breakfast time and at sunset were sensational. The local villagers were very friendly. We had wonderful weather all week. Although the villa is up in the hills in a very rural setting, it was only a 15-minute drive from the main road. We went on day trips every day. We would highly recommend this property.

We were so lucky to find such a special place being so rural and yet have all the amenities on the doorstep and with picturesue principal towns as close as 20 minutes away. Changeover Day:

Please note we do not have other accommodation to let therefore you will have the private use of villa apartment, pool, garden and BBQ areas during your stay. Satellite TV and Internet access. Oil central heating. Baby bed or cot available and can be placed in any bedroom. Generous supply of bath, hand towels and bed linen (changed weekly). There are small fields on all sides of the villa with a quiet tarred road to the front. Spectacular mountain views. There is a small family run restaurant 0.5 km away which serves very generous portions of local dishes at very reasonable prices. Suitable for families,groups, couples and single parties. Fully enclosed large garden with grassed area for badminton. Private heated pool with shower. There is no smoking within the house. Outside: Large private heated pool 11 x 4m (if heating required, usually only from November to March, at an additional £150 per week). There is a large cobbled patio and BBQ area in a secluded garden to the rear of the property which is surrounded with lawn, vines and fruit trees. Granite table and seats,sun loungers and reclining chairs. Large roofed area overlooking the pool with a soft seating relaxation area around coffee table in one corner and a huge rustic banquet style wooden table and benches area situated alongside the large BBQ and sink. Our accommodation is suited to all ages and interests,loads of activities for the restless and tranquility for those that like to relax and just chill out watching the world pass by while enjoying the endless warm sunshine. Lots of circular walks either on the quaint country lanes or through the many nearby forests all from the doorstep. Great for that early morning or evening run or cycle.
