About Jane

Jane's passion for Italy began on a school trip at the age of 16. Tom discovered this wonderful country a little later in life but has become equally enthusiastic. We are at last fulfilling our dream of living here, if only for part of the year.

Jane purchased this bed and breakfast in 2004

Why Jane chose Brindisi area

When we first saw photographs of trulli in the launch issue of "Italy" magazine, we were intrigued and determined to see them for ourselves. Having visited various other regions of Italy in our search for a property, we finally came to Puglia and realised that this was somewhere special. We were given a warm welcome by everyone we met, many of whom have become close friends. The picturesque area around the Valle d'Itria is completely unspoilt by tourism, yet offers good shops and restaurants where you can sample the wonderful fresh produce grown in this region, not to mention the excellent local wines!

What makes this bed and breakfast unique

Above all, Trullo Lavinia offers comfort and relaxation - a perfect base from which to explore the many charming small towns and places of interest. We know the area well and are on hand to offer any help and advice that you need.

Great place and great hosts

  • 5 of 5

The property is exactly as described and the hosts could not have been nicer or more helpful in every way. The breakfasts were tremendous and its a really nicely-situated property. It's also well placed for exploring the area and the local town of Cisternino is a really good size, not too busy or touristy with an attractive historic centre and some good places to eat.

Amazing in every way, People & Place ,

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing week at Trullo Lavinia. Yes the accommodation was lovely and in a great location but it was Jane and Tom who made our holiday special. Their attention to detail meant that before we even knew we wanted or needed something, it was there. And of course their famous breakfast was out of this world. We ate outside under the trellis every morning with the fresh rolls and pastries fetched by our hosts every day. Coffee and juice to die for and different fruits, ham, cheese every day. Nothing was too much trouble. On their recommendation we found the best restaurants (all good value), ones I know we'd never have found on our own. Planning day trips was easy with their local knowledge. But most of all I loved coming home after an evening out and relaxing with a drink outside and sharing some chit chat and crack with the best hosts in Italy. Would I go again or recommend this lovely place to friends. In a heartbeat.

Comfy slippers !

  • 5 of 5

That's what Jane and Tom are like a big pair of comfy slippers , they warmly welcome you. By the end of your stay your sad to leave . We had a delightful week at Trullo Lavinia . We arrived in torrential rain and I was unwell , but Jane and Tom welcomed us with the best cup of tea in Apulia . They gave us a tour of the town on market day ,Guiding us to the right restaurants and cafes.

The breakfasts were out standing and really set you up for the day ,especially the fresh bread & pastries . Our room was spotlessly clean and everything to the best quality . They have thought of everything you need whilst on holiday . I'm only repeating what everyone else has said about this great B&B . So don't delay book Trullo Lavinia for your stay in Apulia you will not be disappointed .

Perfect Puglia Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our stay with Tom & Jane in their delightful Trullo was absolutely perfect, our room was beautifully kept and spotlessly clean. We were made welcome the moment we arrived, nothing was too much trouble to make our stay in Puglia a wonderful experience. Breakfast under the pergola with fresh crusty bread every day under blue skies was so relaxing and set us up for the day exploring Alberobello, Lecce, Matera, Ostuni & Cisternino. This Trullo is very central for visiting all of these places of interest. We would highly recommend a stay in Trullo Lavinia as Tom & Jane know the area so well they recommended good restaurants & bars which we had great fun visiting. We shall return to this beautiful corner of our beloved Italy and will of course be booking Trullo Lavinia for its quiet position, cleanliness, superb hosts, beautiful cats & first class hospitality.

Trulli fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

It's all been said before, but this is without doubt the best B&B we have stayed in Italy.

Tom & Jane couldn't have been more welcoming and their hospitality during our stay was amazing. They know the area well and their advice and recommendations were very helpful indeed, especially Osteria Sant'Anna not to be missed! We hope to return to Puglia in the future and this would be our number one choice of accommodation. Carol & Peter

Car: necessary

Wherever you are in Puglia, you are never far from the sea. The nearest beach at Torre Canne is less than 15 minutes drive from Cisternino. There are several more lovely beaches and private lidos with excellent facilities along the unspoilt coastline.

For visitors from the UK, Ryanair operate flights on most days from London Stansted to Bari and Brindisi airports. Ryanair also operate from Dublin to Bari, Liverpool to Bari and Manchester to Brindisi. EasyJet fly between Gatwick and Bari and British Airways also operate this route during the summer months. There are plenty of flights from other European cities to both airports. Cisternino is just over an hour’s drive from Bari and 40 minutes from Brindisi. A car is essential and all major hire car companies operate from both airports.

Less than 5 minutes drive from the trullo, Cisternino is situated on a hilltop overlooking the Valle d'Itria. The centro storico (historic centre) has lovely old buildings and winding alleyways. The town has many good restaurants and bars. There is a market on Mondays, several salumerie selling local produce and a few small supermarkets.

Further Details:

Puglia runs from the spur to the heel of the Italian "boot". It is a land of rich red earth, ancient olive groves and unspoilt coastlines. The area produces wonderful fruit, vegetables, olive oil, pasta and an excellent selection of high quality DOC wines. Dining out is reasonably priced and there are plenty of opportunities to sample the local specialities. Martina Franca and Ostuni are less than 30 minutes away - both great for shopping! An hour away is the city of Lecce, known as "the Florence of the South" and famous for it's Baroque architecture. The Pugliese are warm and friendly people and take great pride in this beautiful, unspoilt region. Trulli (conical shaped houses) are only found in the Valle d'Itria and the main concentration of them is in Alberobello, a World Heritage Site, about 30 minutes away. A further 15 minutes beyond Alberobello is Castellana Grotte, the location of the largest system of underground caves in Italy with the most beautiful crystalline formations. Further afield is the famous octagonal Castel del Monte, built by Frederick II in the 11th century and Matera, where homes and churches are carved from the rock. The Bhole Baba Centre, which attracts visitors from all over the world, is just 5km, 10 minutes away. Bicycles are available to rent in Cisternino. In the trullo you will find plenty of information about places of interest and some local maps. The details and locations of our favourite restaurants are also provided. In July and August there is live music in the town most evenings (usually free). There are 3 banks with ATMs in Cisternino and several filling stations.
