Village House in Sablet, Provence, France - In The Heart Of The Côtes Du Rhône Wine-Making Village Of Sablet

Le Fer à Cheval (the horseshoe) is a beautifully renovated house in a former stable, restored with taste and charm, in the heart of the medieval village of Sablet in Provence. It has been fitted with all the modern facilities you would expect to find whilst retaining its authentic provençal character. The house has been furnished in a traditional style, with many vintage pieces sourced by the owners at local antique markets. It is fitted throughout with high quality fixtures and appliances (Bosch dishwasher and washing machine, large Smeg fridge) as well as wireless broadband, DVD player with a range of DVDs, a telephone with free calls to landlines worldwide. The house is tucked away in a quiet spot by the church gardens, at the very heart of the village, but all the bustle of the shops and amenities of the village are within a few paces as well as the traditional village café/bar, several restaurants, wine-makers and tourist office.

Lovely stay in a charming village house

Charming property, comfortably and tastefully furnished. Really well equipped kitchen (rare in a holiday house). The village was friendly and the shops provide everything you could need. We loved lunch at the café des Sports and enjoyed wine tasting at the Maison des Vins.

Pippa was very helpful and gave us lots of recommendations for places to go - we will have to come back to see more of this lovely region.

Cycling holiday in Sablet

Sablet is a charming village tucked into the countryside, surrounded by vineyards. Although it's a perfect holiday destination, we enjoyed that the village is a proper working village, rather than just a tourist attraction. Going to the boulangerie every morning to pick up breakfast was a real treat. The house is situated in the heart of the village near the top of the hill, and is full of character. The kitchen is very well equipped, there is everything one could need and we also enjoyed BBQing on the terrace. The surrounding area is very beautiful. We brought our bikes with us and found that the cycling in the area is brilliant. There are a choice of flat routes and hilly routes, and we even managed to summit Ventoux. We had a superb holiday here and would definitely come back again!

Beautiful house in gorgeous walled village

There is plenty of room in this beautifully clean and well equipped house, right in the heart of this gorgeous mediaeval walled village. Located right by the church, all local amenities are close to the door. We particularly enjoyed the terrace, ideal for breakfast and evening outdoor dining. Pippa is very helpful and makes a great host, with lots of good advice on the area, which is an ideal place to base a holiday for sightseeing, walking , cycling, road trips further afield and of course plenty of local Cotes du Rhone to try.

Cycling holidays - we can provide secure storage for your bike, with track pump, oil, puncture repair facilities. We can provide mountain bike hire. Advice on great local routes - including Mt Ventoux - and local road bike hire options.

1 hour drive to beaches of Mediterranean. 20 minutes drive to river (tested by authorities and suitable for swimming). Open air swimming pool 10 minutes drive (June to September).

Distances:

Vaison la Romaine 10km. Orange 15km. Carpentras 20km. Avignon 35km. L'Isle Sur la Sorgue 35km. Around an hour's drive; Marseille, Nîmes, Arles, Aix-en-Provence, Saint Rémy de Provence, the Camargue, the beaches of the Mediterranean, the Gorges of the Ardèche, the Lavender fields of Sault, Le Pont du Gard - all these destinations make great day trips from Sablet.

Further Details:

Sablet has all amenities you may need, bakers, butcher, grocery shop (with fantastic local produce), wine boutique, newsagent, chemist, stationer, beautician, hairdressers, as well as a post office and a bank with cashpoint. An excellent fresh fish stall and a fresh goats cheese maker visit the village on Thursday mornings, market on Fridays. In the main square, there is a traditional village bar, the perfect place to watch the world go by, or read the paper over your morning coffee and croissant. The bar also serves excellent 'Prix Fixe' lunches. There is also a relaxed family restaurant, 'Le Chat qui Miaule', with a large terrace and beautiful views. Within a few minutes' drive, there are many other restaurants - from simple establishments serving locally produced, traditional provençal dishes, to the Michelin starred places for special occasions.

The village also boasts an excellent tourist office, or 'Syndicat d'Initiative', where you can find all the information you need about the village and about touring the local area, including detailed maps of marked trails straight from the village into the famous 'Dentelles de Montmirail' hills, suitable for both walkers and cyclists, and ranging from a gentle stroll to a six-hour hike. The tourist office is also a showcase for the local independent wine-makers, who have made the village famous, and you can taste and buy their wines here.

Not to be missed is a visit to some of the local wineries, which are dotted all around Sablet and its outskirts, all of them happy to show you around and let you sample their wares. Many of them host events, from jazz nights to provençal picnics in the vines at sunset.

Sablet also has a small health centre with doctors, dentists and physiotherapists as well as a chemist.
