The house is situated at the top of the village with magnificent views overlooking the village and the surrounding countryside. Arranged over 2 floors with traditional terracotta tiles the house is very well equipped and beautifully furnished. Entering through the arched doorway the entrance hall leads to a luxury bathroom. A corridor leads to 1 double bedroom and 1 twin bedroom. Stairs from the hall take you to the first floor with a fully-fitted kitchen and a living room with satellite TV. A sun terrace with wonderful views over the mountains is reached directly from the kitchen. The terrace is private and south-west facing and has a table and chairs for al fresco dining. The large, tranquil, shady garden is equipped with outdoor furniture Electricity, oil-fired central heating and hot water are included. Bed linen and towels are provided.

Perfect stay in the Tuscan hills

We had a wonderful two weeks in Tricia's wonderful Casa Elida in the village of Benabbio. It is a wonderful typically Italian village with grocery shop, tobacconist, restaurant/bar and pizzeria. The house itself is so well equipped with everything you can possibly think of that you would need during your stay. The house's setting is peaceful without being too remote and we spent a number of hours relaxing on the terraces, surrounded by fruit trees. The views from the terrace (especially the sunset) have to be seen to be truly appreciated. We would highly recommend this house.

Beautiful accommodation in amazing surroundings

The pictures don't fully do this property justice. Not only is the house itself comfortable and well equipped, it is in a small authentic hill village with amazing views over the surrounding mountains. We sat on the terrace night after night watching the amazing sunsets, then drank prosecco under the stars listening to the church bell chiming the hours and half hours. Tricia was a very knowledgable and welcoming host, she was staying in the apartment above the house while we were there and was a very useful source of local information. Highlights of our week include day trips to Lucca (amazing walled town) Barga (stunning hill town) and walking down the hill for morning coffee in the tiny restaurant / cafe / meeting place in the village. We can't recommend this place enough!

A fabulous taste of Tuscany

First of all, the pictures don't do justice to this absolutely stunning house. If you are looking to stay in quintessential Northern Tuscany then this is the place for you, a lovely home situated in one of the nicest hill top villages in the area (700 metres above sea level). The house has lots of traditional Italian charm and has been tastefully renovated to ensure that you are comfortable, incorporating all the mod cons and design without losing its rustic flavour. The views are worth the rental price alone! We were made very welcome by the owner, it was almost like going to stay with a relative. The village of Benabbio has all you need to enjoy your Italian holiday, a fabulous pizzeria 5 mins down the road does the most amazing peppercorn steak at an absolute steal of a price. A car is recommended as you can around the area far more easily, however, there is a local taxi driver that will take you to the local train station where you can hit all the major towns and cities, Peschia to Florence is one of the nicest train journeys. Lots of local walking and interesting wildlife, be aware ..the local cat will want to make friends with you if you start barbecuing. Loved our holiday, thank you Tricia.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beaches are just over an hour away by car. Protected dunes in a national park can be found at Marina di Vecchiano. In contrast, the elegant town of Viareggio with its art deco hotels, designer shops and lively nightlife is just a few kilometres up the coast.

Travel:

The nearest airport is Pisa, just over an hour away and is easily reached with budget airlines from a number of UK airports.

Other airports at Roma (400 Km), Milano (400 Km) and Genova (200 Km) can also be reached from many UK airports.

Although it is possible to reach the house by public transport, a car is very strongly recommended to gain the most from visiting the area.

Distances:

The nearest town, Bagni di Lucca is 4 km away. This has a supermarket and a large selection of shops, bars and restaurants. Abetone, a ski resort, is only 50 Km away.

The walled city of Lucca (30 Km), Pisa (40 Km) and the medieval hill town of Barga (20Km) are easily reached by car. Florence can also be reached by car (1hour 30 minutes) but it is more relaxing and convenient by train.

The hill towns of southern Tuscany are less than 200 Km away and could be visited as an overnight trip.

Further Details:

The village has a tabaccheria which sells newspapers (English language also available)and a large selection of items. There is also an alimentari (grocers shop) which sells a wide range of food and drink including local produce.

There are two restaurants in the village - both very reasonably priced. One is a bar/ristorante the other is a pizzeria. There is also an outdoor bar in the summer where dances, concerts and parties are held.

There are also a number of excellent restaurants in Bagni di Lucca and other surrounding villages.

One of the main attractions of Bagni di Lucca is the natural spring water swimming pools with three outdoor pools open in the summer. The thermal baths and spas can be enjoyed at any time of the year.

Both Lucca and Barga are delightful towns and are well worth seeing at any time of the year. Lucca's famous Summer music festival hosts many well known pop and rock performers while Barga is well known for its jazz, opera and theatre festivals.

Operas by Puccini are performed every summer in an open air theatre at Torre di Lago where Puccini lived for many years.

For nature lovers there are many lovely walks in the surrounding areas.
