Holiday House in Dolceacqua, - Unusual Interior, Close To Restaurants, Shops Etc. 8km From Coast
Conveniently situated in the centre of picturesque Dolceacqua, the house is comfortably furnished on 3 levels. The first level is the kitchen and dining area. Second is the sitting room with sofa bed and this room can be used as a private (not walk-through) second bedroom. The main bedroom and bathroom are just up from this. There is also a large sunny terrace with shrubs and flowers and a BBQ area perfect for sipping a glass of the local Rossesse wine. Dolceacqua has much to offer with a river, an ancient bridge and castle, an excellent variety of restaurants, a full range of shops and of course, bars. it is a wonderful location, away from the crowds but within easy reach of the coast (8km) and from there to the resorts of San Remo, Monaco, Nice etc. The beautiful Maritime Alps present a backdrop to the village together with hilltop towns (a must to explore). The house has gas central heating for the winter months. The ski resort of Limone is just over an hour away.

About the Owner
We are a retired English couple in our early sixties. We treat our property as a second home and visit regularly to improve, catch up with friends and just holiday ! The area is a deliberate choice for typical local flavour with friendly people and non commercialised ! We have enjoyed sharing the property with others over many years and have many returning satisfied customers.

Had a wonderful time. Very comfortable house; it felt like coming home every day after our action packed exploration trips. Spoilt for choice for aperitif and eating places. The Reaves

Authentic old style Italian village apartment
We loved this apartment. We came here with our two teenage boys and were looking for a real italian experience in an old town and that's what we got. Dolcheaqua is simply beautiful and during our stay a festival was in full swing so it as lively. The apartment was very clean and tidy with everything you could need and our sons were very impressed with reliable wifi and smart TV for chilling out after the beach. The ceilings are very low and steps very steep so definitely not for those with mobility issues, but for us that added to the charm. The location is great as only metres from shops and restaurants and just ten minutes from the sea. Wonderful place!
We have stayed here half-a-dozen times over the past decade and the house, and Dolceacqua, always exceed our expectations. The house is excellent, with everything that you need for self-catering, and the wealth of local bars and restaurants give you eating-out options to satisfy any pocket and any appetite.
We will return, again!
My wife and I spent 2 wonderful weeks in this house and it is a perfect location to base yourself for exploring the area. Sanremo, Monte Carlo, Menton and more all within a 30-40 min drive
The house itself is great and very quirky with every thing you would need for a stay.
I would highly recommend it.
Had a fantastic week here. House and Dolceacqua totally charming.(But mind your head in the house...and the bars for that matter, but not for the same reason!). Everything you will need is probably supplied but if not will be available in the village, literally less than two minutes away. Lovely bars and restaurants here - my favourites were Bar California and Caterina's across the river but you'll have a great time finding your own! Whether you hire a car or rely on public transport (we did a bit of both) this is a very convenient location for nearby France and Monte Carlo and, of course, this part of the Italian Riviera or the mountain villages above.
What a brilliant little house. It was great to be in a traditional building, around Italians and Dolceacqua is such a beautiful, friendly town. It is in a fantastic location for exploring France and Italy, coast and alps. The house was very comfortable, with everything we needed in the kitchen and bathroom. We loved the roof terrace and so did my 5 yr old daughter. This holiday rental and area of Italy comes highly recommended by us. It was very easy to book, with flexibility and helpful owners.

“We were not looking to buy when we first stayed here but after 3 days we were smitten. Dolceacqua is a stunningly beautiful and characterful small town with its medieval history and layout. The people are very friendly and welcoming and the food is excellent with lots of choice, and of course it has its own DOC wine, Rosesse. It is off the beaten track but in easy reach of the coast and of the Maritime Alps foothills. We usually fly into Nice, 40 minutes drive away, but it can also be reached by air to Genoa and Cuneo, and mainline train to Ventigmilia. We have not exhausted all the holidaying possibilities after 11 years !”
Activity and Interests
Coast 8 km - 10 minutes by car or local bus. River swimming at Rochetta - 5 km - also 10 minutes by car or local bus.
Nearest airport is Nice, about one hour by car. Genoa airport is just under 2 hours. Both airports have motorway and train connections to Ventimiglia, about 10km from Dolceacqua.
The public transport is generally very good and cheap, especially along the coast. Ventigmilia has international train connections. Local buses do not run frequently in the evenings however. A car is not essential but recommended for exploring, especially the mountain villages etc.
Dolceacqua has a full range of food shops, bakers, butchers, grocery stores, a fresh fish van, etc., together with a number of other small shops and banks. There are also a number of supermarkets within 10 minutes drive.
Dolceaqua boasts several excellent restaurants ranging from simple and very reasonable pizza/pasta to delicious fish or local dishes. All are informal and not particularly expensive. There are frequent French customers which must say something about the quality and value ! Dolceacqua boasts several cafe/bars, ideal for watching the Italian life unfold and relaxing in the sun.
Ventigmilia (8k - 10 minutes drive away) has a wide range of charming shops and one of the most famous, and largest, outdoor markets in Italy and France (50% of customers come over the border for this weekly spectacle). Doleacqua has its own visiting market once a week.

“It is a great centre for all types of visitor as everything is on the doorstep or reachable distance, and the house itself is a comfortable base, or somewhere to just chill. We have had all types and ages of guest, walkers, golfers, sunbathers, explorers, canyoners. The beaches are a short distance one way and rock strewn rivers among hilltop perched towns and cultivated steep slopes the other. Mountains can be seen as a backdrop as you drive into Dolceacqua. Along the coast after a short drive you can reach Menton, San Remo, Monte Carlo, the famous Hanbury Gardens and lots more. Further afield there is Genoa, the Cinque Terre, Imperia and again, lots more ! In Dolceacqua itself there is the famous medieval bridge painted by Monet which leads thru medieval arches to the castle.”

- Notes on accommodation: The interior is quite unusual with traditional arched ceilings, a feature of old style local houses. The arches are purported to be stuffed with items such as pine cones for insulation. In one or two places especially on the stairs the ceilings are quite low however. The stairs are steep in places and so a stair gate is provided for young children. Some pets are accepted - please email. Outside: The sunny terrace is surrounded by pots of flowers and small trees (including a local olive and a lemon - please pick your own lemons for that G & T etc.!). It includes a BBQ area which was part of the original house chimney, table, 4 chairs, 2 sun beds and a recliner. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The house will be cleaned before your arrival. All linen, apart from beach towels, is provided.
