Chalet Bracken is a lovely Chalet situated within a wooded area in the heart of the High Tatras. Refurbished to a very high standard, including two cookers, a hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge/freezer in the kitchen. It has quality furniture and all rooms have slimline thermostatically controlled electric heaters. Ideally situated for skiing, with the ski resort of Strbske Pleso only 5 miles away, accessible either by car or train, stations of which are around 5 minutes away. Or for those who prefer summer alpine holidays, walking, cycling, fishing, AquaCity water park and a golf course are within easy reach. All in all we promote our Chalet as 'Home from Home'.

About Mark

I was looking in 2006 at buying a property abroad and from research Slovakia seemed to have everything. I visited the High Tatras and found the area stunning. Having returned to the UK and upon contacting estate agents I returned 2 months later and brought this property. Set in its own grounds, in a wooded area, yet only 6 minutes walk from a train station , it is in a fantastic location. Having been fully refurbished it now has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. I just love this place in the winter to snowboard and relax infront of the log fire during the evening with a glass of wine, or walk around the moutains in the summer and have a BBQ. All in all, it has everyhting I wanted...I'm sure you'll feel the same...

Fantastic Chalet in a Picture Postcard setting

A party of four stayed 3/2/2017 for a week. The chalet is situated in a wooded area but within walking distance (5 mins) of Strba train station which you can get a train to Poprad, Bratislava etc (mainline) or to ski resort of Strbske Pleso.

The Chalet is stunning, has open plan lounge/diner, kitchen/utility and bathroom. There are 3 bedrooms upstairs.

The lounge has comfortable leather like sofa's, a huge TV (no live tv but they have 100-200DVD's!) and an incredible log fire.

Kitchen was good size with fridge freezer, 2 ovens, hob, microwave and plenty of plates glasses etc.

I was worried about a previous review about cleanliness but owner told me before we went that the old cleaner had retired and a new cleaner had been employed. It was VERY clean with plenty of towels and bedding. All rooms have electric heaters but they didn't come on much as the log fire heats the whole chalet. Plenty of hot water too.

We stayed 7 nights and did some skiing, walking, shopping and eat and drank too much. I could not believe how cheap it was: 1/2 litre of beer around 1€, a large glass of wine €2 and food from €4/€5. We eat a few nights at Strba Pension a short walk where 4 pizza plus about 20 drinks cost us €45!!!

We plan to go back in the Summer. Unbelievable area and great chalet.

Large chalet, very quiet, isolated in the eara, green environment

good location, perfect distance to the high and low Tatra, the Slovak Paradise, and more. fair price. well equipment and accessorized. very quiet, isolated in the eara, green environment.


not clean enough, part of the equipment should get some more maintenance. DON'T HAVE TV, POOR INTERNET ACCESS !!

Good house and location

Nice house in a quiet location, but with easy access to the mountains. Would probably recommend a car (we didn't have one with us), but it's not essential. We really enjoyed going up into the mountains and the house and area around it is good for those times when you just want to hang around at home for the day. Booking was easy and owners good to deal with. Thanks for a great week.

Very calm place and comfortable chalet

We have been staying in this chalet for 5 days - two families with children. The place is extremely calm, surrounded by almost wild woods. Even family of foxes were playing all the time just 20 meters away (if you'll try grilling some meat - do not leave it unattended :) ). The chalet itself is very comfortable, although some beds are raised for almost 3 feet and shorter people could have to use a ladder to go to sleep :) Nice kitchen, has all the necessary equipment. We also liked the fireplace which in summer is not for the heating, but the burning wood makes an evening very cozy. There's no wi-fi nor TV antenna, but there is DVD player with a collection of movies.

So, I would definitely reccomend this place for your vacation if you're looking for a calm place.

The nearest Airport is Poprad which is 15 minutes from the Chalet. A number of Airlines use this small airport including Sky Europe from London Luton. Krakow (Poland) is just over 2 hours away and has a huge number of flights, including Easyjet, British Airways, Ryanair, Centralwings, LOT, AerLingus & Jet2.com. Bratislava is another option and has excellent Train transfers to Strba Station (5 mins walk to Chalet). Prices are 13 Euros each way.


Poprad 10 minutes. Strbske Pleso 10 minutes. Jasna 30 minutes. Krakow 2 -2 1/2hours.

Further Details:

Tesco Superstore is 10 minutes drive away. Beer is less than 1 Euro a pint and a meal starts off around 2-3 Euros. Poprad is also 10 minutes away and is ideal for shopping, esp the MAXI Centre with excellant shops and a state of the art bowling centre. A must is a visit to AquaCity at Poprad. At AquaCity they provide a modern and luxurious thermal bathing experience with a range of pools heated from 36° - 28° Celsius. All of the water comes direct from natural springs, pausing only to have some of its heat energy diverted for use in our three and four star hotels and to be purified by a UV cleaning system. This UV system (similar to thosed used by many municipal water companies for the purification of drinking water) thoroughly cleans and sterilises the water but retains all the healthy and therapeutic minerals. The immensely popular Blue Diamond Pool now has an exciting new sister pool that shares the same intensity of mineral rich, therapeutic, geothermally heated water, yet has an atmosphere all of its own. The Blue Diamond Pool II boasts a wonderfully relaxing ‘in-pool’ bar helping you to find a whole new level of sophistication and luxury. Thers also a laser show every night at 930 and if thats not enough thers a spa, steam room, gym, restaraunt, bar and a CryoTherapy Chamber. The Whole Body CryoTherapy Chamber (WBCC) consists of two specially constructed “Cold-Rooms”. These chambers are around the size of a small sauna and are able to accommodate six to eight people at a time. The first chamber is cooled to a temperature of -60°C. The second chamber is cooled to -120°C. Each of the chambers has a window and a two way intercom system so that the doctor is within sight and sound of the users at all times.
