Welcome to Font Remy - the former Manor House of Le Petit Village, a peaceful hamlet 2km inland from the pretty fishing village of Mortagne-sur-Gironde, just south of the seaside resort of Royan. The property has been tastefully converted into four very spacious, fully equipped houses sleeping 10, 10, 6 and 6 and is set in a walled garden of 2 acres with views of the vineyards beyond. There is a 15 x 8m fenced and heated swimming pool, plus swings, table tennis, pool table, boules pitch, badminton, plenty of space for ball games. Tennis, go-karting, horse riding, golf, sailing, boat hire are all available locally. Mortagne has bakers, butchers, a small supermarket and bars and restaurants overlooking the boats in the port. Numerous sandy beaches are 20-30 minutes drive away and there are many historic towns to visit within an hour or so - La Rochelle, Bordeaux, Saint Emilion, Cognac, Saintes. For kids there is the best zoo in France (La Palmyre), an excellent Aquarium at La Rochelle and an indoor aqua park in Jonzac. Great for families - or groups of families holidaying together.
Toddler friendly - this is a great base for a family holiday in France - and we have cots, highchairs, stairgates and an essentials baby pack, available at no extra charge. We have kids dvds, toys, games and books too and new for 2016 will be a new climbing frame and swing set.
Wifi, large screen satellite tv (French and English) in each house.
Please see our website www.fontremy.com for more details and pictures.
This is a great area for cyclists (good cycling countryside around) and bird watchers (especially down in the estuary in Spring and Autumn). A great place to come and relax.
Hello! We are Huw and Cathy Thomas. We live in England with our two children and golden retriever. We all love France, the relaxed way of life, the markets and the restaurants.
Cathy Thomas purchased this house in 2003
We bought Font Remy back in 2003 because we love France and wanted to have a place where we could holiday regularly, not too far from the beaches and local markets, within walking distance of a village with bars and restaurants but with a sense of getting away from it all. The feeling of space in the gardens is just so relaxing. There are lots of places to visit within an hour or so drive - Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Royan, Cognac, St Emilion, to name a few. There is a different beach for every day of the week - the nearest (20 mins) are sandy, safe with great beach bars. We love hanging round at Font Remy during the day - walking to the boulangerie for croissants, eating lunch on the patio, swimming and then heading off to the beach late afternoon for beach cricket and a glass of wine.
We wanted to offer not just a well-furnished house, but also one with plenty of activities for children as we have two ourselves. The first thing we did was heat the pool (v. important for me!) and then, in 2008, we built the games barn and put in table tennis, table football and a pool table. There is satellite tv too plus lots of books, board games, dvds and videos too. In 2009 we also added WiFi so Huw can work when he is out there and so we can stay for longer!
Our kids love playing cricket and badminton in the garden (when they are not in the pool). Huw loves challenging anyone who will listen to a game of boules and I love lying on my sunlounger reading my latest novel whilst sipping a glass of pineau (the local speciality).
Absolutely great. Fantastic property, clean tidy, well equipped and in great location.
Vinyards all around and not far from the coast.
We have already booked again for next year.
There are three other Gites on site and they were all people who had stayed previously.

Our group of retired teachers booked 2 of the gites at Font Remy - for a week away. What beautiful properties. Jasmine was really like a home from home and we were very comfortable. There was everything we needed.
Spent a week at Font Remy and had an great, relaxing time. We stayed in Jasmine which was very well apportioned and felt like home. The pool was great, more than big enough for all four houses and the gardens and grounds were well kept and spacious. We especially liked how much was provided in the games barn to keep children (and adults!) entertained. Mortgagne is a nice little town with all the amenities you would wish for and some good restaurants in the marina. All in all, a great holiday and would definitely return.
The property was even more beautiful than expected. Jasmine is much bigger inside than it looks, the beds are comfy, everywhere is clean and welcoming and facilities are excellent. The games room and pool that serve all the cottages are fantastic. A really lovely property in a gorgeous setting. Fully recommend.
Ideal setting with everything anyone could want from a holiday destination. So much more than cottages. Utterly tasteful decor and top facilities. Pool, games room, local historic port, bars and restaurants, beaches, cycling and bird watching. Will definitely return.
After an easy drive from St Malo, following the excellent directions supplied by Cathy, the property was everything we expected. We had taken all the houses so were able to spread the families and older members among them to ensure a comfortable stay for everyone. The houses were clean, bright, supplied with essentials like washing-up liquid and loo rolls and all with a welcoming message from the property manager, Nikki. She proved a godsend when one of our party locked himself out of Honeysuckle. She arrived promptly and pleasantly in answer to a call for help. There were excellent handbooks in each property, giving ample information about everything locally. The beds were extremely comfortable and all the furnishings were of a high standard. The younger children enjoyed the games barn and so did the older members - fierce table-tennis competitions took place throughout the week. The boulle court was well used for pre-dinner matches. The pool was large, clean, well-fenced and a joy to swim in.
There is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area and walking and cycling are both a pleasure on the quiet roads. I would recommend this property unreservedly - all or any part of it, to my friends and relatives.
