About Pauline Hurst

My husband and I live in England. We are now both retired. We have two daughters who have both now left home. We have travelled to the Costa del Sol for a number of years, the first time when our elder daughter was working in San Pedro Alcantara. We love the area and now that we are retired spend as much time as we can at the Villa, and hope our guests will enjoy it as much as we do.

Pauline Hurst purchased this villa in 2006

Why Pauline Hurst chose Tolox

We had been looking for a property on the Costa del Sol for some years but had not been able to find anything that suited us by the coast. We then saw an advert on the internet for new villas being built in Tolox. We carried out some internet research in relation to the area and travelled out for an inspection visit. We totally fell in love with the village and area and bought the villa off plan. We had to wait a further two years for it to be completed, but it was well worth the wait!!! The villa is on the edge of the village, there are bars, supermarkets and other village stores within three minutes of the villa. Market day is Wednesday. The villagers are very friendly and make you feel welcome. The villa is ideally situated for exploring inland Costa del Sol.

What makes this villa unique

Stays are the villa are totally relaxing, everything is ready on arrival thanks to our property management team. The ground floor is totally open plan, very light and airy. The villa is the only one on the small estate which has an open plan ground floor which makes it unique. We have uninterrupted views of the village, river valley and up to the National Park.

We had a fantastic half term holiday!Perfect weather. The villa is lovely ,superbly equipped !!Every morning we enjoyed a coffee on a roof terrace :).Tolox is exactly what we'd hoped for ;little Spanish village with few bars and small supermarkets with all essential you need. Our favourite bar was Alberca just few minutes walk with fantastic view over the village.Beautiful Ronda under an hour drive. We visited Gibraltar, Ardales and the lakes Cominito Del Rey we had a lovely lunch at El Mirador Restaurant. Nerja Cave,Benalmadena Butterfly Park and Castillo Monumento Colomares is great our little son loved it.

Overall we had a fantastic week.It was so nice to back to the villa every evening after seeing all these beautiful places and relax with glass of Spanish wine.

We would recommend to anyone!

a lovely white spanish village nestled in the mountains and all around sounds of nature. The house has everything you need, all has been well thought out. We would sit on the patio just relaxing to the sounds of the river and birds. The town of coin is a short drive away and has everything you need, though the 2 shops in the village also sell most things. A lovely relaxing hol in a truly lovely place, thanks Pauline

Amazing villa in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

I am prone to waffling on sometimes according to my kids so I'll try to keep to the facts.

We arrived in Tolox about an hour after leaving Malaga. It's an easy drive through some stunning scenery. The roads are twisty but there is little traffic once out of Malaga.

The villa is fantastic, superbly equipped and on arrival was beautifully presented (it looks new). The pool is great for kids and adults. The BBQ on the terrace is perfect for a lazy evening. Some of the views over the mountains are stunning. Air conditioning in the bedrooms ensures a good nights sleep. The villa is just a two minute walk from the nearest bar/restaurant and only a couple more from many others. Bar Alberca (known locally as Pacos) was a favourite place to eat, great rustic food and a very warm welcome here. Tolox is a beautiful traditional Spanish village, the locals are lovely. During the day it's very quiet. On my morning walk to the bakers I would often see only one or two people out and about,

In the evenings the village wakes up. Very little English is spoken, which adds to the fun. The tapas bars offer traditional food and are cheaper than in the usual holiday spots. There are several small supermarkets in the village, a bakers (great cakes!) a butchers a fishmonger and a pharmacy. If you need a larger supermarket then mercadona in Coin is an easy 20 minute drive.

Tolox does not have nightclubs, sportsbars or the obligatory Irish bar. It offers far more by having less if that makes sense. Try it, you won't regret it.

Sincere thanks to you Pauline from the Mills family.

A fabulous villa within walking distance of a pretty mountain village.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 2 weeks here. The villa is lovely, very well equipped and very well looked after with a great wee pool to cool off in. Pauline was incredibly helpful and made it a very easy process. Tolox felt very authentically Spanish, which is exactly what we'd hoped for. We saw eagles as we sat eating dinner at the terrace restaurant in the village and loved swimming at the lakes at El Chorro. We would throughly recommend it!

A most relaxing and energetic two weeks !

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to stay somewhere near a typical Spanish village, where we could walk to a bar or restaurant at night without having to use the car. The Casa de Rio certainly fitted the bill. Right on the edge of the village of Tolox, it was a smashing place to relax in, despite the 34 steps up to the master bedroom - that's the energetic bit of the review title.

The local bars and restaurants were just what we wanted, typically Spanish, not a lot of English spoken, but always very friendly and helpful, and always up a hill from the villa - the rest of the energetic bit.

The villa itself was clean and comfortable, with everything provided by way of bedding and towels. The pool was clean and of a size to suit a couple of swimming strokes - not too big, but not a plunge pool. And it was cleaned weekly.

Some very nice little bars in the village. We tried a few, and found them all to be welcoming, as were the restaurants, but beware the size of the helpings - quite a lot of food on the plate.

The village is about 3Km from the main road to Coin, which is worth a look, or even Cartams, where you can catch the train to Malaga. Very clean, on time and very cheap - easier than driving.

We left with some regret, and definitely felt fitter and more relaxed after two weeks.

Now for the next holiday, but where ?.

Amazing stay in a lovely villa

  • 5 of 5

My 4 kids and I decided to holiday here for 7 days. What a place Pauline has! Couldn't fault the villa at all. The village was amazing too with so many hidden supermarkets and bars just coming to life at night.

My kids loved every minute especially in the pool. We even drove to the beach one day (about 45 min drive) and we were only there for an hour when the kids were asking when we were going back to the villa and pool.

Amazing stay, amazing villa, lots of communication from Pauline to ease the process and some very detailed directions to help get there.

Thanks Pauline, hope to see Tolox and your villa soon again,

Car: necessary

Marbella and Puerto Banus beaches are a 40 minute drive.

Malaga Airport is 45 minutes drive. Car hire is essential.

Tolox is a 2 minute walk into the centre of the village. Nearest large town is Coin where you can find large supermarkets, bars and discos. The famous town of Ronda is a 50 minute drive along scenic mountain roads. Granada is 2 hours drive.

Further Details:

Tolox is a beautiful town and it's easy to lose yourself for a week just lapping up the sun and staring at the view. Everything you need is within a short walk. Cashpoints/banks, small supermarkets, post office, butchers, bakers, fish mongers, chemist, medical centre etc and of course bars and great tapas. Internet cafe and bar at Juan's

There is plenty to do though if you want to explore the area.

Tolox is an excellent base for exploring southern Andulacia with the famous towns of Ronda and Mijas a short drive away through the beautiful Spanish countryside. Tolox is on the edge of the Sierra de Nieves national park with the opportunity to see varied wild life.

Villa has it's own pool but there is a great Parque Acuático at Mijas near Fuengirola 30 mins)

The Tolox town pool is really good. There is a bar and it's great to mix with the Spanish.

Lots of great beaches within 40/45 minutes drive to the Costa.

Nearest large supermarket is 10mins drive Maxi Dia in Alozaina.

Large supermarkets, restaurants, bars, shops in Coin town center (20 mins), Burger King, cinema and 10 pin bowling at La Trocha shopping center also in Coin.

Serious shopping at Mijas Miramar (25 mins)

Marbella La Cañada and Old Town (35)

and playground of the rich and famous, Puerta Banus (45 mins).

Gibraltar is only an hour and a half drive for duty free shopping and a great day out.

Lots of golf course on the Costa. Our nearest course is Alhurin Golf (25 mins).

Water Parks. Our favourite is at Mijas 25 minutes drive - it puts Wet & Wild to shame.
