Cabanas has everything needed for a relaxing holiday in one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of the Algarve. Our spacious, newly-built apartment on a small, high-quality development has sea views, good, comfortable and stylish furniture and all mod cons. The seafront and village beach are only a few steps away and a 3 mins ride on the tiny ferry takes you to the fabulous island beach, part of the Rio Formosa nature reserve but with cafe/amenities and miles of golden sand. Village restaurants are informal and friendly, serving freshly caught fish and seafood and other local dishes at very reasonable prices. A fresh produce market, supermarket and a variety of small shops and waterfront cafes are all within easy walking distance along the lovely boardwalk. If you want to explore the area, Cabanas is a few minutes drive or bus ride from the lovely town of Tavira and only half an hour from Faro or the border with Spain. 7 excellent golf courses are within 30 mins drive.

About The Owner

We are middle-aged, well-travelled and the kids have grown up and left home. Living in rural Shropshire is fine, but we are a long way from the sea and don't get enough sunshine!

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2007

Why The Owner chose Cabanas de Tavira

We like to holiday away from the crowds, but with all essential comforts on hand. Cabanas has natural beauty and a very relaxed atmosphere. It is essentially a portuguese resort, but friendly and popular with other nationalities.

Our apartment is at the very end of the waterfront: if we go out and turn right we have a choice of excellent restaurants, a small fish and vegetable market and a few shops; in the other direction, there is no development and we can walk along rural tracks to the next village.

Unless you want to explore inland or move golf clubs around, a car isn't needed. Friends and family who use our apartment rent bikes, take buses to lovely Tavira and (slow) trains to other places for days out along the coast.

What makes this apartment unique

Cabanas is our retreat from busy life, but things we like to do there include golf, walking, eating fresh fish and drinking red wine. The apartment is our 'home from home' (but with seaviews) and we have breakfast on the sunny balcony and afternoon 'siesta' on the roof terrace.

We enjoy strolling on the boardwalk along the waterfront, trying to identify birds and hopping on the ferry to the island beach.

On longer stays or in cool weather, we sometimes drive over to Seville for a day or explore the Alentejo. Roads are good and it makes an interesting contrast with the coast.

Notes on accommodation: Air conditioning units in living and bedrooms can also function as heaters and there is a wood burner in the lounge. Both the apartment and its location are very suitable for children. Almost everything is 'wipe clean' and the area outside the apartment is pedestrianised. A high chair and stair gate are provided and cots can be hired, by prior arrangement. Outside: Being on 2 levels, the apartment has plenty of outside space. The furnished balcony on the first floor looks out to sea and is ideal for outdoor meals for up to 6 people. A barbecue is provided. The roof terrace has sea views and is equipped with sunloungers and drying racks. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Rental includes all linens and towels (except beach towels), and final cleaning at the end of your stay. Other: Entrance hall with built-in vacuum cleaner and stairs to upper floor. Large roof terrace, accessed via both bedrooms, has sea views and sunloungers.

Back for 2nd year

Location perfect for all restaurant and front area inc taxi boats to take acroas to the most amazing beach (avoid beach cafe!!!!)

The apartment needs some attention, front door sticks, also the whole apartment does not look very clean, all sinks and bath, shower curtain needs replacing.

Lots of cupboards are locked, we would have like use of a hoover for getting rid of sand, maybe have one there.

Tv, do not expect to be able to chill out in front of a screen at the end of your day, ain't going to happy, no one knows how to use it.

Pos owner however she is not there, key holders have no idea.

I'm sorry there were things that disappointed you on your return visit. Our agents thoroughly clean and check everything between guests and we replace furniture and equipment on a regular basis. It's best to report any issues as they arise, so we can try and put things right for you during your stay. There is plenty of cupboard space available, as well as a 'hoover' and other cleaning equipment. We deliberately don't advertise our apartment as having UK TV channels.Our streaming box is available for guests to use, but the instructions we provide make it clear that it may not always work.

Cabanas very nice with lovely restaurants,beach and walkway along the front for a stroll.

Everything in apartment you can possibly need for holiday.

Lovely property, great location

Having stayed at Alison's place before we knew what to expect, and were not disappointed. The flat is spacious and well equipped, with everything you need to make a home from home. The location is great, less than 100m from the front, with nice views of the Ria, and the sea beyond, from both the first and second floor terraces. We normally visit Cabanas in spring or autumn and obviously found the town much busier than at those times, yet still no problems finding somewhere to sit and eat/drink, and the atmosphere remains the same, very friendly resort. Although not the biggest of resorts, Cabanas offers a good variety of restaurants and bars, providing everything from snacks to good quality restaurant food, and if that is not enough you can visit Tavira or even Sao Bras, both of which have a couple for really good restaurants. If your looking for a relaxing time in a nice apartment and with all you need on the door step, we would highly recommend this property. Thanks once again Alison, we are sure to stay with you again in the future. Steve and Karen, Sevilla.

Location

Car: not necessary

Coast/Beach:

Cabanas is on the Rio Formosa, a narrow lagoon between the coast and the Ilha de Cabanas, a long uninhabited sandbar which forms a magnificent sandy beach. Small ferry boats go from the waterfront 2 minutes walk from the apartment and take less than 5 minutes to cross. Once there, you can either hire a lounger and parasol or do your own thing. There are showers, toilets and a cafe. The closest beach is right in front of our development and is overhung by cliffs as you walk away from the village.

Travel:

Faro airport is 35 minutes drive from Cabanas. You can also fly to Seville, 90 minutes away. Car hire is not essential, as Cabanas is self-contained as a resort. Get a taxi from Faro or we can arrange transfers. There is a bus service into Tavira (10 minutes away) and (slow) trains run along the Algarve stopping at Conceicao, a 15 minute walk from the apartment. There are also water taxis! If you want to explore further afield or play golf, we recommend hiring a car.

Cacela Velha - 8km.

Olhao - 33km.

Albufeira - 60km.

Vila Real de Santo Antonio - 20km.

Border with Spain - 24km.

Seville - 180km.

Further Details:

Cabanas has a fresh fish and vegetable market, supermarkets, bakeries, butchers, internet access and several banks with cashpoints. Lots of cafes, restaurants, bars and all other essentials, but no nightclubs or discos. The nearby picturesque town of Tavira is well worth a visit, as is the Rio Formosa Nature Reserve, close to Olhao. Heading east from Cabanas, Cacela Velha is a pretty village with superb views along the lagoon. Boat trips from Cabanas include fishing, birdwatching and general tours of the lagoon.

Booking Notes:
Our rates are in euros payable by bank transfer into our Santander account. We can also accept payment in £ sterling, based on the exchange rate at time of booking.
Fifty percent of total rental (non-refundable) to be paid to owner at time of booking in order to guarantee requested dates. The balance to be paid no later than 4 weeks before start of holiday, together with a security deposit of 200 euros. The security deposit will be refunded by bank transfer (less any deductions for loss/damage to property) no more than 7 days after you have checked out.

Changeover Day:
Normally Saturday to Saturday but this is flexible, especially in low season. Arrival usually from 3.30pm, departure by 10.30am. This may be negotiable outside high season.

Notes on prices:
If you'd like a 'long let', ie. more than 4 weeks, please contact us about a special rate.
