Excellent

On arrival we were met by Joanne & Jim and made to feel very welcome. The cottage was very comfortable and had all the amenities for an excellent stay. The cottage is in an idyllic position with some fantastic walks and cycle rides. Should you prefer to sit and relax the lawns and garden are superb.

All the beaches and historic towns including the famous Mont St Michel are just a short drive away.

A fine supermarket with some wonderful foods fresh fruit and fish just 10 minutes away.

We had a very pleasant and rewarding holiday and we will certainly visit the cottage again.

Beautiful set and well equipped Brittany cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is a wonderful place for a restful holiday and we were fortunate in the Spring weather. The house is beautifully set and the sunny table in front (see the photo) keeps the evening sunshine which meant that a drink outside even on early May evenings was still a pleasure. It is a fantastic place for a dog as there are terrific walks on the doorstep and the immediate area around the cottage is well away from the road. Patch the resident dog is also very welcoming! Joanne and Jim, who Patch keeps an eye on, are tremendous and helpful hosts providing a wealth of information on the area and - particularly significant for us - great guides to local restaurants and markets. They arranged our visit to the local vet before returning to the UK with our dog and overall could not have been more helpful. This part of Brittany is a delight. Dinan the closest large town is wonderfully atmospheric and walks along the Rance from it are fantastic after lunch. Cancale on the coast is glorious and a must for anyone who likes oysters. The astonishing number of 'wild' sandy beaches along the coast, set in glorious scenery are fabulous. I am sure in July and August the roads and towns are more crowded but we found traveling about easy and pleasant. And the bright, cosy, cottage is a great place to chill out - very comfortable, clean and well equipped. The only thing I would point out is that the bathroom is on the ground floor and the bedrooms upstairs. This was not an issue for us but I can imagine it might affect those with mobility problems. We have rented gites, flats, cottages and houses in Britain, France, Italy and Spain for some 30 years and I would unquestionably put this one in the top 5%. We look forward to returning.

Fantastic family holiday

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely family holiday in the gite. It was very clean and had everything we needed - including a cot, high chair and stair gate. The enclosed garden was fantastic for small children and the pool was wonderful. It was a short drive to several good beaches. Jo and Jim were really friendly and made time to chat to both us and our children. Our 3 year old loved collecting eggs from the chickens! They had lots of great ideas for days out. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

Excellent base for exploring north Brittany

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in the cottage, which was well appointed, clean and comfortable - including wifi and dishwasher. Although there was no air-con the cottage was lovely and cool despite high temperatures. Jo and Jim were excellent hosts - available for help if and when required but not in your face (happy to have a beer and a chat if you want!). Supermarkets within 10 min drive, and only a half hour or so drive to all the main attractions in the area (Dinan, Dinard, St Malo, Mont St Michel etc).

The "back" garden with open air pool is hared with renters of the gite but this didn't cause any issues during our stay. The cottage has its own garden area to the front and owners are also happy for you to use their shaded pergola area.

Dog friendly (owners have their own dog and local farm's dog also makes regular guest appearances, so beware if you are anxious around dogs) and ours had a great time - can particularly recommend St Colomb beach about 20 mins away as a dog friendly beach.

Would not hesitate to recommend to others

Quiet, well maintained Gite with friendly owners

  • 5 of 5

We had a very relaxed week in the Gite which had all the ameneties we required. A perfect location to visit St Malo, Dinard, Dinan and lots of smaller, yet worthwhile places. Joanne and Jim were perfect hosts, nothing was too much trouble and their knowledge of the local area very helpful. Shopping was easy with two supermarkets close by and the cooking facilities in the Gite made it easy to cook whatever we wanted.

Notes:

  • Outside: There is a large garden to the rear of both the properties that has been lawned and includes a 15ft round above ground swimming pool. The gardens are enclosed with gates at the entrances. To the front of the cottage is a gravel driveway with a parking area to the side. Beyond the driveway is a two-acre meadow for all guests to roam and explore. This leads on to the Forêt de Coëtquen which includes mapped out walks to follow. To the front of the Gîte there is a gravelled area which incorporates an ancient bread oven, with a walled pergola area. Outdoor games and equipment are provided, such as swimming pool, paddling pool, badminton set, tennis, soft ball, cricket, footballs, frisbees etc. We have also converted a small barn between the gîte and cottage into a utility room which houses a washing machine, sink, airer, iron and ironing board. BBQs and garden furniture are provided for all guests.
