A rural setting, 1.5km from the village of Santa Cruz, this accommodation offers a peaceful and relaxing holiday with many activities close by. The villa has many traditional Spanish features but with all the comforts of home, the best feature being the amazing view. The house is finished to a high standard and is very well equipped. Guests are free to explore the beautiful land surrounding the house and its elevated position makes the most of the stunning panoramic views. 8x4m swimming pool, sunbeds, hammock and BBQ. Each room is spacious with large a en-suite bathroom, sitting area and private balcony with table and chairs. The open plan kitchen/lounge has a dining table and chairs, sofa and a log burning fire with a good supply of wood for those cooler evenings. Each room is light and spacious making it a perfect place to relax. The local baker visits Saturday with a wide selection of breads and cakes. Welcome pack on arrival. Home cooked food available on request. Beach towels, cool bag and ice blocks included for those days to the beach or the lake.

Notes on accommodation: Each bedroom has an oiled filled radiator and the kitchen/living area has a log burning stove and a plentiful supply of wood, also a portable gas heater. All the beds have quilts, hot water bottles and throws for the cooler months, with fans for the Summer this is a perfect retreat any month of the year. The vast outdoor space makes it a perfect place for those who want to explore or just simply sit on the covered terrace and enjoy the view with a glass of wine! Outside: Set in 12 acres of working almond and olive grove which guests are free to walk in and enjoy. Relax under the pergola on the hammock or a sunbed on the terrace around the 8x4m pool and admire the never ending views. Enjoy a BBQ in the evening. With plenty of space indoors and outdoors and the fabulous views, this is the perfect place to relax. Guest privacy is our number one priority, we also offer the pool exclusively to guests Don't take our word for it, read the guest comments! Also new for 2011 fresh organic eggs available (small extra charge). We also offer home cooked food. Enjoy a tapas evening, 2 course dinner or lunch or a traditionally cooked paella. We also have a pizza oven so homemade pizza's are also available. Contact us for further details. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels, linen included, changed once a week. Rooms cleaned daily on request. Laundry service available on request (extra charge). Other: As well as the 2 enclosed private balconies, the house has a large terrace to the front all with table and chairs and positioned to make the most of the view. The stone built bar-b-q is also to the front.

¡FANTÁSTICO, MARAVILLOSO!

For my wife's Christmas present I gave her a copy of the official guide to the Alhambra and Generalife with a bookmark of the flight tickets to Malaga. The only question now was where to stay.

Having done a fair bit of research I came across Casa La Cuesta and sent a request of availability to Anna. What impressed me from the start was that I received a reply within the hour. This excellent speed of response continued throughout our correspondence.

As soon as we arrived and were shown around by Holly (and the dogs!) and took in the jaw dropping scenery, I knew that I could not have made a better choice if I had tried. My Brownie Points with 'er indoors were now off the scale!!

The two bedrooms (one twin and one double) were both spotlessly made up so we could use either. The kitchen / dining / living room in the middle was clean and the welcome pack of all the essentials you could need was the best we have ever come across. We would say, however, that the oven could benefit from a little TLC.

Unfortunately Anna was in the UK for the duration of our stay but Andy, Holly and the dogs were the perfect hosts - there when you needed them and discreet enough not to intrude on your privacy otherwise.

We ate at the villa for the most part so cannot comment on restaurants but the little shop in the village is OK for the basics. For a bigger shop search out the Dia supermarket in Alhama for everything you might need. It's a bit tucked away so ask Andy or Anna for directions.

The drive to the Alhambra is pretty straight forward and we did it in 55 minutes early morning but allow an hour an a half just in case.

I cannot recommend Casa La Cuesta highly enough - there just aren't enough superlatives! There is an excellent visitors guide on the dining table which we found most useful.

A couple of pointers: there is no fresh milk available anywhere and always use the bottled water for drinking, even for boiling for tea and coffee. The tap water comes from a well and although very clean, tastes gross!

Anna, Andy and Holly, thank you SOOO much for a fabulous, but all too short holiday. We will be back!

Far from the Madding Crowd !!!

Very friendly and helpful owners.

Peaceful setting.

Brilliant weather.

Much needed and well used pool.

Friendly dogs, but can be intrusive.

Ear plugs may be useful due to nightly “dog’s chorus”, and early morning cockerel !!!!

Local villages interesting and inhabitants all very friendly.

Lake Bermejales disappointing as water levels VERY low due to lack of rains.

Road trip to coast via Velez Malaga very interesting (congratulations to Andy for this almost daily commute for work !!)

A truly Spanish area.

Lovely and relaxing

We spent a week at the villa and it was an amazing start to our holiday. The views are stunning, Anna was so welcoming and was on hand if we needed help/advice on anything. The villa was clean and comfortable. Our only niggle was the fridge/freezer was very small, which meant storage of beer, wine, water, soft drinks and food was very limited. Also (as it was so hot) a larger freezer area would have been good for ice cream, ice, food, etc. A wall cupboard to store food too would have been useful as we ended up just having stuff on the counter (which attracted ants) and then just leaving it on the dining table. So better food storage facilities would be our only real issue. You need a car but there are some lovely places to walk and visit. The gorge walk was amazing. We were so relaxed here, the dogs became a very big part of our stay and provided lots of therapy to our son and always gave us such a great welcome when we returned from our travels. Overall I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this villa, especially if you tend to eat out a lot. Anna and family are very respectful of privacy, the pool is great and it's sooo relaxing!. Watching the sunset with a beer at the end of the day has been missed greatly since returning home to the English weather. ☹ Thank you xx

What a beautiful find!

We stayed for only three days but wish it had been more! So very peaceful, a week here would do more for your mindfulness than spending a fortune at one of those so called retreats! Reading a book around a pool all you could hear was the occasional goat bell or the cockerel in the valley and you can see for miles and miles - the view is just tremendous!

The property is compact but more than comfortable. Cool in the summer, I suspect that the fabulous log burner in the living area would keep one very cosy in the colder months. A double on one side of the house and two singles on the other meant we were far enough away from the kids but close enough in case they needed us.

Thank you Anna and Andy for your welcome and the chance to stay in your beautiful place. I've already recommended it to friends and family so now it's a case of when rather than if we'll be back!

Wonderful cottage, hosts and location.

The cottage was very comfortable and incredibly well stocked with all a guests needs thought of. The hosts, Anna and Andy were delightful and very helpful. The dogs were also very welcoming and friendly. The views are to die for and it is such a relaxing place and easily accessible for travelling around. Highly recommended.

Just do it

The two and a half weeks we spent in this beautiful region of Spain will stay with us forever. The villa is rustic and charming, and the views are out of this world. Anna and Andy are friendly, accommodating hosts, and they have created a little piece of Andalucian heaven. Book a stay here! You won't be disappointed! From the lovely welcome pack to the well-equipped kitchen, the comfortable rooms with separate entrances and their own small living spaces, the refreshing pool and the friendly dogs and chickens who visited us every now and again, the local baker delivering fresh bread to the door (on request) and the many almond and olive trees. The town of Alhama de Granada is a little treasure trove and we enjoyed the many tapas bars, the weekly market and the gorge walk, as well as the thermal baths. The coast and the city of Granada are also within easy reach - if you can peel yourself away from the terrace...and the views. Thank you Anna and Andy. We hope to be back soon!

Special interest holidays:

Perfect spot for bird watching all year round. With very clear skies through the summer this is also the perfect spot for star gazing! Ideal for those who like walking. Guided walks can be arranged and bike hire with free delivery and collection service. The natural hot springs close by offer a more relaxing time, treatments are also available. If you are thinking of buying in the area we have lots of good advice and knowledge and lots of useful contacts both English and Spanish.

Coast/Beach:

Malaga and other beautiful Spanish coastal resorts including Nerja and El Morche are only 90 minutes by car. As well as the coast the nearby beautiful warm waters of the lake are only 20 minutes away. Ideal for a peaceful day out, the lake is clean and clear and is great for swimming in, plenty of shade and pedalo's are available at the weekend.

Travel:

Granada airport 40 minutes by car and Malaga 90 minutes by car.

Distances:

Nearest village is Santa Cruz, 1.5km and Alhama De Granada, a town, is 9 kilometers. The beautiful city of Granada with the spectacular Alhambra Palace is only 50 minutes drive, a highly recommended day out. The historic city of Cordoba is only 2 hours by car. Sierra Nevada 90 minutes with all kinds of activities. There are also lots of things to do locally within 20 minutes of Santa Cruz. This location is ideal for a peaceful and relaxing holiday with many activities on the doorstep.

Further Details:

There are many traditional Spanish restaurants and bars close by to choose from. This is one of the few remaining areas that still serves free tapas with drinks. We offer homecooked food with wine of your choice (ask for details).

Santa Cruz has a small market on a Wednesday morning, there is a small supermarket and 3 bars to chose from. Alhama De Granada has a market on Friday mornings there are also plenty of shops, banks, bars and restaurants. The gorge walk here is a must, beautiful scenery, paddle in the clear waters of the river and enjoy a drink and tapas at one of the closeby restaurants taking in views of the lake. This location is ideal for both those who like to relax or for those who like to be more active.

Bicycles can be hired in Alhama De Granada with a full delivery and collection service. Guided walks can be arranged on request for those who prefer to walk off the beaten track. The lake is also close by which is stunning to walk around or swim in.
