Offering disabled access, Casa Laura is a secluded villa with its own swimming pool purely for your exclusive use and free WiFi. The villa benefits from not having nearby neighbours yet the house is only a 15 minute drive from the attractions of Almunecar; with its tapas bars, and restaurants. Casa Laura is situated in authentic rural Andalucia, yet with all the amenities of a modern villa. A private concrete road leads to the villa which is all on one level, offering disabled access throughout the house, the gardens and patio/pool areas. I am a 53 years old businessman, married with 1 son.

We live in the city of Liverpool, UK. My wife is a NHS Health Psychologist, and my son is studying at University.

We bought the land that the villa stands on in 2003, and we then began to build the villa in 2007 - acquiring building permission in Spain requires patience and tenacity!The villa was designed by a local Spanish architectural practice. Their principal architect created the design of the villa based on our plans we wanted a southern US hacienda style property. We have travelled extensively and we love, in particular, the desert environments of SW USA, specifically Arizona and Southern California, which have been a great influence and part of which we have recreated here.

Casa Laura is a truly beautiful house in a wonderfully authentic part of Spain. The location is absolutely breathtaking and you will frequently find yourself quietly taking in the fantastic views. The house is extremely private and is set within lovely gardens.

The views from every single window are even better than described - it's secluded and totally private - a perfect get away from it all. My husband is a very fussy cook and the kitchen was equipped with everything he needed. Not just the kitchen, but the whole villa was of a very high standard and everything provided was in an "as new" condition.

The whole experience of booking this villa has been smooth, faultless and completely satisfactory and I would have no hesitation in recommending that you book this villa.

Notes on accommodation: The house benefits from gentle summer breezes which cool the house down on hot summer days. The accommodation is designed to be as luxurious as possible. We think that we've thought of everything that you need for a perfect holiday. The house and land are in a stunning position,and is not too far from town and the beaches- its about 15 minutes drive. There's a small bar within walking distance from the villa through the Avocado groves, and more bars and shops in nearby Torrecuevas. Pena Escrita National Park is a 10km drive inland with its public pool and animal exhibits. A car is required due to the poor public transport services, but as the road from Almunecar is fully tarmaced even the smallest size vehicle will have no trouble reaching the villa. The villa is great for children as there are no steps to negotiate, and as we have a DVD player, XBOX, there's always something to keep the children occupied if required. We also supply a iPod/MP3 player base with speakers. Outside: The house and pool area are bathed in sunshine from dawn until sundown. The house was specifically designed for the bedrooms to be located in the shade in order to offer a cool afternoon sanctuary.The gardens are professionally landscaped and offer lemon trees, olives, as well as many many different types of tropical plant specifically chosen for the Mediterranean environment. The house is bright, light, and airy, designed for alfresco living, with all doors and windows taking advantage of cooling breezes. The house and pool area are bathed in sunshine from dawn until sundown. There are plenty of patios surrounding the house and plenty of positions to park your sunlounger.The pool is for your use only, is complete with shower and measures 9 x 4 metres. The pool is well maintained and offers breathtaking views. Utility Room: AEG Washing machine, plenty of cupboard space, deep utility sink, hot water boiler, iron and ironing board and hair-dryer all available for your own usage. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: We provide towels and linen, but please bring your own pool/beach towels. The villa will be cleaned before you arrive, we will also provide a change of linen if you are staying for 14 days. 2 week stays also have a mid-week clean and change of linen. Other: The house is built on 1 level with disabled access. A wheelchair user will have no problem getting about the house. All corridors, doorways etc are wider than required for easy access.

Peaceful and Private with Stunning Views

We thoroughly enjoyed our family holiday at Casa Laura. The villa is set in its own olive groves and commands a splendid view over the surrounding countryside. The area really is authentic Andalucia and the property has every modern convenience, ready to use, and made available. If you love cooking then the magnificent kitchen is a delight with acres of space and every utility that you could wish for. The area is excellent for birdwatching and the night sky is awesome with the Milky Way clearly visible with the naked eye. Thoroughly recommended!

The villa was in a great location but the lack of air con meant it was incredibly hot. Pool was smaller than expected and leaked meaning we had to fill it up each day. We spent the first day sweeping up around the pool as it was full of leaves. Mobile number for house keeper was incorrect so no way of contacting them

Worst part was it took over two months and countless mails and phone calls to get my deposit returned even though we left the villa in perfect condition.

Owner's Response: I have some real issues with this review as it is anonymous, inaccurate and slanders the villa blaming the property for events wholly attributable to nature and the environment Firstly, in the hot summer some of the water in the swimming pool evaporates each day so it needs to be topped for 30 minutes each day to replenish the loss. Simply turn on a hose for 30 minutes, that’s all. This is standard practice in the hot Spanish summer. Also any wind will blow leaves about – this cannot be considered a fault with the villa. The weather is hot in Spain in the summer – again this cannot be considered a fault with the villa. Wifi is always available and I pay for this service so that it is free for guests. The villa's doors and windows are in perfect condition and are maintained regularly, I don’t see how the opening and closing of doors can affect a holiday experience. The guest could have contacted me directly with any issues if the housekeeper was not contactable. The refund of the deposit was transferred in good time into the same bank account that the guest used to pay for the rental but the guest wanted the deposit paid into a different account without notifying me. This meant that although the deposit was returned in full the guest didn't notice the credit sitting in their original account. The villa is built and furnished to a very high standard. Cleanliness is a very important matter to us and I can only think that any sticky floor areas in the villa were a result of the actions of the guest’s small children.

Property us tired and needs attention. Leaking pool during our stay, loose tiles in pool, sticking doors, broken blinds. Need I say more. Owner unresponsive to feedback. Would not recommend this property. Area lovely though

Owner's Response: This review is wholly inaccurate. All queries from Mr Gallagher were immediately answered and promptly dealt with by the property management company that maintains the property. His complaints ranged from a side-door that stuck slightly when being opened but was otherwise fine (a joiner was called and he planed the door within 4 hours!) and a television that had no picture - the set-top box was not turned on, and it cost 40 euros to arrange for a TV engineer to visit the property and plug in the set-top box. Mr Gallagher rented the villa from me and after his departure it came to our notice that he actually stole property valued at over five hundred pounds from me. There is concrete proof of the theft. This crime has been reported to the UK police, and legal proceedings are now underway. By leaving a wholly negative review, 6 months after the rental ended, Mr Gallagher has used the Owners Direct review section to publish a false, untrue, and misleading review as his idea of revenge for the theft being reported to the police and their decision to bring charges of theft against him. I would advise all holiday property owners to steer well clear of Mr Gallagher from Wrexham. He is a thoroughly unpleasant piece of work. In over 6 years of renting my villa this is the only negative feedback that has ever been left from over 50 renters, which speaks for itself. The property is in excellent condition as can be seen from the photos on the website. It's most disappointing that Owners Direct permit their review section to be used in this manner.

Almunecar's beaches are about 15 minutes drive from the villa. There are numerous beach that stretch all along the coast, some are well developed, others offer little apart from surf and sand. All beaches are accessible by car. Sand and shingle make up the majority of the beaches. The area is still very Spanish, and you are much more likely to be sharing the beach with a family from Granada rather than a builder from Essex. Taking it easy, nice and slow, is the order of the day. Some Good Fishin


You need a car. Malaga Airport is less than 1 hour away. Collect your pre-booked car from beneath the terminal then its almost a straight road to Almunecar. Granada Airport is also less than an hour away. A car gives you that flexibility, and helps to transport the cheap food and wine you'll be taking advantage of. Some days though, you won't use the car, the villa is such a pleasant place to be that you'll just hang out there all day.

We have kept our 2013 prices the same as they were in 2011!


Elena's Bar is about 800 metres away. She sells water, beer, bread etc if you've run out. She does fine Spanish Tapas as well. Drop in and catch up on the local news and perhaps a song or two. Torrecuevas village is a 10 minute drive away and it has bars, a pharmacy, 2 supermarkets, and various other bits and bobs. Almunecar is 15 minutes drive away from the villa. Granada is about 1 hours drive away where the renowned Alhambra is situated. Alpujarras are situated about 40 minutes drive away.

Further Details:

Escape the UK weather. Take advantage of the cheap flights and car hire and have a cracking week or two for less than it costs to stay in the UK. Food and drink in Spain is still very cheap, and the villa has all the amenities you need to enjoy a low cost holiday. Also, we charge you in pounds, not euros, so you avoid any poor exchange rates. Pay for your flight through Easyjet in pounds, pay for the villa and car hire in pounds, and our prices are the same as last year. Also, self-catering is low-cost our cooking facilities are excellent and the beach is free, you will also have sole access to our fantastic pool. Self catering at our villa is a pleasure, we have a top quality barbecue, great kitchen facilities, giving you a free rein to your impress with your culinary expertise. It's a low-cost holiday option just waiting to be booked. All facilities are available in Almunecar, which is a thriving Spanish town, still very Spanish and largely untouched by the tourist community. There's a good indoor market 6 days per week, this is the place to go for seafood. There's a large outdoor market each Friday until lunchtime. Almunecar still observes the siesta, so from 2 until 5-ish most places are closed, except for refreshment of course. Restaurants and bars are welcoming and hospitable. Watersports are all along the Costa Tropical and activities include kite surfing, paragliding, scuba, snorkeling, fishing and water skiing. Almunecar has many historical sights including Phoenician, Roman, and Moorish aquaducts, fish factories, and other antiquities, the town even boasts a castle overlooking the Med and the whole area. Horse riding facilities are nearby and if you wish to take a guided horseback tour into the foothills of the Sierras, this can be easily arranged.
