Beautiful country setting within easy reach of many local beauty spots and typical Normandy towns.

The cottage is well equipped with everything you need for a relaxing peaceful break. Excellent nearby walking and cycling routes we would not hesitate to return to La Valgosse in the future.

Charming property in the heart of the Normandy countryside. Very peaceful location with Thury-Harcourt just a short drive away with all amenities as described. Comfortable farmhouse, nicely furnished and well equipped. Would recommend and happily return.

A Rustic, Relaxing Country Gite

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time at Valgosse. The house is beautifully situated with breathtaking views across a lush green valley. He had all our meals out on the patio and saw a variety of different butterflies and birds.

The house itself is beautifully decorated with lots of antique furniture and old photos. A really quirky and comfortable interior. I slept like a log every night.

It's also really easy to drive to from the ferry port at Caen. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to friends and family.

Excellet value near Thury

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I stayed at the gite 11th to 18th April 2015. The year previously our daughter and her husband had rented the gite and recommended it to us. We were not disappointed, both of them expect a good standard of accommodation and this was what we found. Although it was early/mid April we were spoilt with the weather. Despite the daytime temperatures it can be chilly in the evenings so on a couple of occasions we lit the large wood burning stove.

My wife had corresponded with Shirley by phone and email prior to our holiday. Instructions on location were easy to follow. Although a sat nav is useful it is not essential.

This was the first time that we had returned to the Swisse Normande for a number of years. We were able to visit French friends who live at Douvres-la-Délivrande adjacent to Caen.

The gite was everything that we anticipated, clean, well maintained and equipped. It is situated close to Thury Harcourt, a delightful small town. Thury has two supermarkets, SuperU and Lidl, a choice of typically small French shops including a wonderful patisserie. The local population proved welcoming and friendly.

The cottage is an excellent centre for those who want a counrty base but easy access to a small town. The Swisse Normande is a beautiful area. There is much to explore in the region, Bayeux and the landing beaches, the American Cemetry and exhibition centre are moving and insightful. To the east Deauville, Trouville and Honfleur are not too distant.

We have no hestitation in recommending a holiday at Le Valgosse.
