About Paul and Fiona

Hi,

We are a family of 4, with children aged 16 and 13. We wanted a holiday home in France that we could share with our family and friends. We spent a while looking for the right location for us and happened to rent a house in Sainte Marine - as soon as we arrived we realised this was the place for us!

Paul and Fiona purchased this house in 2006

Why Paul and Fiona chose Quimper area

We instantly fell in love with Sainte Marine as it has everything we wanted as a family. All facilities are within walking distance so you don't need to use the car - our parents come regularly to the house without a car.

We've renovated and decorated the cottage to provide a home from home with the creature comforts you'd expect and plenty of equipment, quality TV and space for the family.

Sainte Marine has a picture perfect harbour with fantastic restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. From wonderful french cuisine to pizza and crepes. The local boulangerie is at the end of our road.

The beach on the other side of town is a beautiful white sandy beach perfect for families. Nearby Benodet beach has activities and night life.

Whilst Sainte Marine has everything you need for a holiday it remains tranquil, calm and friendly but if you want busier atmosphere, Benodet, Ponte L'Abbe and Quimper are only a few minutes away by car.

What makes this house unique

Our house is great for families holidaying together. We often come over with grandparents who can have the easy access downstairs bedroom away from the rest of the family with their own bathroom next door.

We also come with friends and put the kids together in one room using the single beds with pull-out option.

The house has ample room for all the guests and this means you don't need to be on top of each other the whole time. The garden is big enough to kick a football around or put up a badminton set and is completely fenced off with hedges providing privacy.

One of the best features of the house is the large, west facing patio, getting the sun from lunch until the last sun dips down behind the trees. Many a sundowner enjoyed with a glass of wine or beer and perfectly cooked BBQ!

During Spring and Autumn the large wood burning stove gives a warm and cosy atmosphere in the living room and warms the whole house. Electric fires are also fitted in all rooms.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I would like to say that for years I have been looking for a coastal property, near to good restaurants and a boulangerie within walking distance, lovely walks direct from the property, all of which situated on the coast and at last I have found it! - Mr and Mrs Walkley - May 2010.

I just wanted to drop you a line to say thank you very much for allowing us to rent your property. We had such a lovely time. The house was great and located in such a fantastic area. Many Thanks again. We would love to return again at some point.

Great location

  • 4 of 5

Well appointed property, a home from home, well maintained with a good sized rear garden. Great location with a short walk to the beach, Patisserie, restaurants and cafe's. Would definitely recommend a stay here, we would love to come back.

The property was very well equipped and charmingly decorated , the garden was secluded and sunny .

  • 5 of 5

The house is ideally located in very easy walking distance of both the beautiful harbour and white sandy beach at St - Marine . It is in a very tranquil location .

The local food shopping and restaurant offer was exceptionally good and there is easy access to bigger supermarkets at Benodet and towards Quimper.

The whole region offered great days out to local towns, villages ,beaches and harbours . Good markets and seafood abound.

We would certainly recommend this area for a great holiday and would return to this house as a first choice without hesitation .

A lovely family home from home.

  • 5 of 5

We all loved staying in Paul and Fiona's cosy cottage. It was the perfect size for our family of four and the bedrooms have all the space you need.

Although the weather was not great, we did eat on the patio and tried out the woodburner, which was toasty.

The village is beautiful and the girls only had a short walk to the bakery in the morning.

We enjoyed the walk along the river towards the bridge - we even spotted a family of red squirrels. Awwwww!

We tried all the restaurants and all are good, though the Café du Port was especially welcoming and good value. Even our vegetarian was happy with the choice.

Great house, lovely village

  • 4 of 5

Stayed in June 2016 with a 2 year old. St Marine is a great village. Quiet, walking distance to a beach and the charming port with great selection of bars and restaurants. Ferry to benodet where we ate more and hired bikes. The weather was pretty bad all week. Very few activities for a toddler in the rain - some very good public pools at pont l'abbe and Fouesnant but beware the strange opening hours.

House is great - well equipped. Wood burner works very well!

If the weather had been good we would be back every year!

Perfect Family Holiday

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful location! We had a lovely time in St Maine. The house had all that we could have wanted including a safe lawned garden for the children to play in. The bakery was within walking distance (5mins) and our 10 year old made daily visits tout seul! A variety of guide books and maps of the area were thoughtfully provided. You can even walk from the house, along the beach to Ile Tudy - we'll definitely be back to do that one! An excellent location to explore Finistere and if you want to venture further afield everything is within striking distance. Beautiful creperies on the harbour, a grocers nearby (expensive) but only a short drive from a variety of supermarkets and small towns. Markets were gorgeous, done as only the French know how. A great holiday for myself, my husband and our 2 boys (8&10). Paul couldn't have been more helpful and having Jim nearby to help out if anything was needed in the house was excellent backup. Thank you - we miss our St Marine getaway!

Great cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time here, and it was just as great the second time. The cottage is in a lovely town with an all important boulangerie within easy walking distance. A local beach again easily walkable. No cafes or ice-cream on beach, but fun to get ferry to Benodet for more on-beach activity. And lots of other beaches easily accessible by car if you do want more on a beach. Some great cafes/restaurants in Port. But the one at top of road is fab too - really good food frequented by locals. Decent market on Wednesday to get fruit veg meat & fish. Bigger ones in Benodet & Guilivenec. The cottage itself is well furnished (great to have comfy sofa). Everything you need in kitchen, and lovely to have patio to eat/relax on, & garden to play in. Couldn't really ask for more from a base to explore the Southern part of Brittany!
