About the Owner
We live North of London and have four lovely grandchildren. Consequently our villa has been made child friendly for them and for our visitors.
Guestbook comments from the owner
The villa was lovely, very spacious, immaculately clean, tastefully decorated and provided every comfort we could possibly need. Our children thoroughly enjoyed the pool and were delighted with the table tennis, and CDs that were available for them. The location of the villa made it an ideal location for touring - Lisbon, Obidos, Fatima, Batalha. The area was lovely, the people very friendly and sincere. The restaurants provided excellent service, with quality food and very reasonably priced. The beach was great, made all the nicer with the lovely weather we had. Hopefully we will return next year. MI (Ireland). We have just had the most perfect holiday in the perfect villa in the perfect setting! Thanks so much for the use of your lovely villa, it was just ideal for us, our twins and our parents, it had everything we could have wished for and more and we hope to return again in future years! Family holiday in an area we hadn't been to
We had a fantastic time at this villa and in the area. The villa is a home from home, with everything you could need and more. There were lots of extras we were not accustomed to expect from a holiday rental, such as toiletries and cleaning products. The idea of successive guests topping up all these extras is a good idea. We loved the fact that Foz was a very local village, it wasn't a resort and we liked this. There was plenty to do in the area and other tourist spots were close by when we wanted them. It was good time to rest and explore. A first rate villa!
Great stay at Scott's
This was our second stay at Scott's and our 6th visit to the area. The house has everything you would need, we were a party of 8 , two 8yr olds, a teenager and 5 grown ups, plenty of space and bathrooms ! Pool was well maintained and heated, the children loved it, securely gated . Foz is just charming, great bars and restaurants, recommend Tavola particularly for pork and clams. Beach walking distance and several supermarkets all near by. Thank you Richard and Valerie for sharing your lovely home.
We've just returned from a 10 night stay at the Scott's villa and had a wonderful time. The villa's location is very peaceful with wonderful views of the lagoon and surrounding countryside. The villa has everything you need for your stay. There is Wifi, table tennis, darts, games, BBQ, well equipped kitchen, plus a small but lovely pool. Foz Do Arelho is a hidden gem. It's a small town and the main street leads down to the Beach and the lagoon. If you are after a relaxing and peaceful holiday then this is the place for you. The village though small is well equipped. It has three small supermarkets, butchers, fishing tackle shop (bait available 5pm each evening), takeaway and a small gift shop. The supermarkets are well stocked and prices cheap. A bottle of good wine will cost £2.50 and £1 for a litre of beer. The butchers has everything you need and is also well stocked and again, very reasonable! The main supermarket also has fresh fish. I would highly recommend dining in Foz Vintage Club. This is a new restaurant and the food, wine and beer are excellent and very reasonable. We were a party of 8 and the bill was around £100 and we had all eaten and drank well. The villa is approximately 5 minutes walk from the bars and shops and 15 minutes walk to the lagoon/beach. The lagoon area has a number of small bars and as you get nearer to the beach there are a number of restaurants. Cas Da Praia is another excellent restaurant and had we found this earlier would ate there more often. Again food and drink is very reasonable.
If you book a holiday you won't be disappointed
This property was excellent
Good pre visit information, directions and an excellent information book in the lounge made our stay exceptional. We have stayed at this property twice now and will be looking to book again for next year. The property is a real, 'home from home', clean, well maintained and has everything families would want. We have now taken our friends and family there over two years. Its close proximity to the 'lagoon' (which is safe and great for families), and the cheap bars and
restaurants makes it an ideal spot in this best kept secret in Portugal.
Best holiday ever
We have just returned from the best holiday ever staying at 'Scott's' villa. The villa had everything and more that we needed for our stay.the area is great with the most amazing beaches. Would highly recommend staying here and would return tomorrow if possible.
This was our 3rd time at Scotts and we hope to return later this year to enjoy this very well appointed villa again. It is furnished to a very high standard and is more like a home than a holiday rental! Foz is a quiet friendly village and all of its facilities are within walking distance from Scotts. Use the local butcher and small supermarket to enjoy very reasonably priced food, and the local bakery pasta donatas are heavenly. Miles of golden sands surround the Obidos Lagoon or if you prefer watch the Atlantic rollers coming in from the main beach. Interesting places such as the walled town of Obidos, or Peniche, Baleal, Nazare are within easy reach by car, with Fatima a little further away.
This is an ideal spot for a chilled out holiday, away from the usual tourist area.
From the Owner
“When we first visited Foz do Arelho we fell in love with the lagoon and Atlantic beaches, the village and the friendliness of the people. We were looking for a property large enough to accommodate our growing family, not on a complex and within easy walking distance to the beaches, shops, restaurants and bars. The proximity of Caldas da Rainha as a major town with hospitals, supermarkets and cinemas was an added bonus. Every time we visit we are still bowled over by the beauty of the area.”
Activity and Interests
10 minutes walking distance to Obidos Lagoon (safe for little ones) and Atlantic surfing beaches. This part of the Silver Coast is renowned for its vast sandy beaches which are never crowded. Changing tents are available in high season. Ample free parking all year round. There is a windsurfing and canoeing school on the lagoon open all year round and beach activities in June, July and August.
Lisbon Airport is 100 kilometers away, easily accessible by the excellent A8 Toll road (cost approx. 4 euros). Easyjet fly from Luton, British Airways and TAP from Heathrow, Monarch from Gatwick and bmibaby from Birmingham. Other airports also serve Lisbon.
Villa 'Scotts' is on the edge of the village with bank and cash machine, small supermarkets, shops, butchers, bakery, chemist, hairdressers, bars and restaurants only a few minutes walk away. There is also a clinic and post office.
There is a local bus to Caldas da Rainha, the nearest large town, 8 km away. It has supermarkets, hospitals (including the original thermal hospital) and a daily street market. Historic renowned pottery and museums.
The Silver Coast area contains many beautiful villages, beaches and ancient places of interest. The traffic free medieval town of Obidos is a 20 minutes drive.
The historic abbeys of Batalha and Alcobaca should be on your itinerary and Fatima itself is only a modest drive away. Foz do Arelho is not a bustling resort. It is for the discerning visitor.
