Modern Villa with Amazing Views - Fabulous Family Holiday for 8 (+2)

Overview

Property

Updated: 29-Nov-2016
Fantastic comfortable villa offering the best sea and mountain views

Our four-bedroom seaside house is beautifully situated. It sits, slightly elevated, looking out over the blue, blue Peljesac Channel to the thousand- year old Venetian town of Korcula. The crystal clear waters of the Adriatic are little more than 100 metres from the house. The area is a living reminder of just how the Mediterranean coast used to be 50 years ago.

If you are looking for peace, tranquillity and a simplicity that’s also wonderful for children, then we can say with all honesty this is the place for you. Our family has owned the house since 2003. We, and many other families, have spent literally months here and are always very sad to leave.

The house itself is relatively modern and very family oriented. It is detached and not overlooked. There are figs, lemons, grapes and pomegranates growing in the garden. The house has four bedrooms and comfortably sleeps eight with the possibility of squeezing in extra children.

The two master bedrooms have terraces and floor-to-ceiling windows with magnificent sea views. Bedroom 3 has two sets of bunk beds and a terrace looking out over the countryside. The fourth bedroom has sea views and a single bed with a trundle underneath, so it can be a double. All bedrooms, except the fourth, have air-conditioning. There’s also an upstairs loo and washbasin.

Downstairs, the kitchen has wonderful views to cook by. It’s spacious and well equipped with a large fridge, dishwasher, oven, hob and microwave. The lounge has double doors leading on to the terrace, with a sofa, chairs, TV and a dvd player. Across the hall, is the bathroom with a large walk-in shower that’s deep enough to be a bath for small children, plus a toilet, sink and washing machine. There are also steps down to the cellar which we use for storage.

But comfortable though the house is, it’s outside you’ll be spending most time. There’s a paved terrace around two sides of the house looking out over the sea and equipped with sun loungers and a hammock. There’s a lovely big wooden table that’s made for al fresco eating and able to seat a dozen people. You might find that you eat all meals outside, though there is also a dining table in the kitchen.

Even so, you might eventually conclude that, however pleasant the house, it is the surrounding area which makes a holiday here so special. Our village is called Kuciste. Famous writers have praised it. It has but a single shop, a post office and a church, plus, during the summer months, a waterside restaurant and bar. A swim and a chilled beer or wine are always at hand.

Stroll a little along the coast in either direction and there’s lots more simple bars and unsophisticated seaside restaurants. A delicious seafood platter and a very drinkable carafe of local wine can be enjoyed for a very modest price. We can let you know which restaurants serve mussels and oysters straight from the sea, and where you can watch your freshly-caught fish being prepared for the pan.

Slightly further afield is the town of Orebic with shops and markets, and across the water the Venetian city of Korcula. There’s a ferry service from Orebic and Kuciste to Korcula, where in the autumn an increasingly famous baroque music festival is held. Both towns offer a wider range of more sophisticated attractions. There are also local bus services so you can manage without a car.

Kuciste is on the Peljesac peninsula, famous for its vineyards, oysters and the richness of its history as part of the former state of Ragusa. It’s also a great place for walkers and naturalists.

In short, it is very special.

‘The position is fantastic .... such a wonderful view! The house has everything we needed (and more), it has been easy to make ourselves at home and really relax.....We loved the fact that everything we needed was in walking distance. The village is charming and the choice of good restaurants close by kept us happy for the entire fortnight. We'll definitely be back!"

"A retired couple, we were here for the whole of May and loved it. The weather was good with some lovely warm days, we could eat outside most lunch times, and there were only a few tourists. The house was very comfortable and we will never wake up to better views. Looking across the water across the Korcula was a wonderful start to every day. And there was more than enough room in the house to have a couple of friends to stay."

"It's been difficult finding a really family friendly Villa but at last we've found it! Very comfortable accommodation and great outside space - we loved eating out under the grapevines"

Non stop action. Non stop relaxation.

  • 5 of 5

I regret not writing in the visitors book, but there was so much to say!

Great house - lovely rooms with perfect views, effective air con (which we didn't need very much), perfect outdoor eating area. Loads of useful equipment - cool bags, Cds, games, books, Whole house simple, nicely presented, without being stiff. We felt totally at home.

Kuciste is lovely. Really chilled out and a great place to 'give in' to being on holiday. No high heels or dressing up - So laid back. Beaches are a bit rough underfoot, but after a while you just get used to it, particularly since the water is so amazingly beautiful and clear. Nothing else matters.

There was loads to do with two older teens: windsurfing, kitesurfing, biking, walking, exploring. I had a car but probably could have managed without. Hired bicycles were really useful. We attempted to cycle to Laviste but I was a bit rubbish so the generous teens turned back. We did get to the view point ( amazing) and then drove to the little town for a gorgeous swim and wander.

We took the evening ferry to Korchula and had a wander and a pizza, but it just confirmed how nice Kuciste was! We also cycled and drove to Orebic which was more our kind of place for a spot of moderately 'full on tourist'. We did the walk to St Ilija (?) which was totally wonderful. We set off at 7, which was just about early enough, but had to be back by midday which was a push. So definitely take a day and you will have a beautiful time. Also did a trip to Ston which was great for walking the city walls, especially if you piggyback on someone else's guided tour!

In short, we really could have stayed longer just living a simple, windy, outdoorsy, slow, comfortable and sun filled time. Recommended.

Owner's Response: We're delighted you got so much out of your stay which sounded extremely action packed! Thanks for your kind words about the house, it's good that you felt at home and comfortable during your stay. We try to provide all the bits and pieces that we find handy for our own holiday so glad you made use of the cool boxes and picnic equipment. Kuciste is a special place, we're glad you thought so too! Hope to welcome you back again soon.

Super relaxing holiday spot

  • 5 of 5

We so enjoyed our stay in Kuciste.

The house is seconds from the sea and has a really relaxed feel to the place.

Views over the water are amazing from the lovely spacious terrace and the bedroom balcony. We were really impressed with the choice of local bars and restaurants all looking over the sea. Popping over on the ferry to Korchula which is the beautiful island that faces the mainland was a highlight, so much so that we visited twice, once for a day and then again for supper.

The seawater is crystal clear and great to plunge into after a spot of sunbathing.

We are definitely hoping to make it back to the house again for another lovely chill out!

Amazing, laid back location

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great family holiday here. The location is perfect for a laid back, relaxed time spent with everyone able to do their own thing - the sea is so near the teens wandered off happily swimming, and the adults with heads buried in books on the patio. The view from the front bed rooms is gorgeous. No hotels in the area so few cars, mainly campsites and apartments so bikes and rollerblades are preferred transport! Loved swimming off the jetty in what feels like the biggest swimming pool as the water is so clear, and enjoyed a few trips across on the boat to Korcula town when in the mood for a bit more action. Great for kitesurfing and windsurfing, and paddle boarding which we tried have a go at! The local beach bar beanbags are great when to see the sun go down, but definitely a place for shorts and flip flops rather than high heels :) We will definitely be back.

Wonderful family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous two weeks in August. A short (2 minute) walk down to the sea every morning to swim. Kids spend hours jumping off the jetty. Small supermarket in the village and great restaurants within walking distance. Beautiful views from the house and terrace - great day trips over to Korcula. Lovely!

Lovely family home with great views

  • 5 of 5

The house is deceptively spacious and has great sea views. The outlook from the main bedrooms is stunning. We swam several times every day, diving in off the harbour wall into warm, clear water. The local shop kept us well supplied and it was a real treat being able to eat all our meals outside. And it was great being able to pick a lemon from the garden tree to put into our gins and tonic!

Owner's Response: We're delighted that you enjoyed your stay so much. September is a super month in Kuciste, there's always a lot going on and it was good to hear that the foot ferry was able to take you to and from the Baroque festival in Korcula every evening. A lemon picked fresh from the tree is pretty special and if you come earlier in the summer you will also enjoy figs straight on to your plate! We look forward to welcoming you back next year. Kind regards Caroline & Jason

Great place for a vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We have just arrived back home after nearly two weeks in this great Villa in beautiful Kuciste. It was our first time in Croatia and we were not dissapointed! We, 5 adults and 3 children aged 3-8 had a fantastic stay here. The owners were very helpful, sending driving directions, ferry time-tables and various instructions through mail before our departure. They answered every question we had and did everything to make us feel welcome.

When we arrived at the house there were further written instructions regarding everything from where to get groceries to suggestions for hiking and resturants. Very handy! Also, after arriving we were contacted by a local woman who was very helpful during our stay, for example she came immidiately with help when we called her due to our smallest daughter managing to lock her self up in the bathroom. Fantastic service and we felt really well taken care of.

The Villa was perfect for our company. The garden and terrace are secluded and the kids could play freely, especially enjoying all the tortoises living free in the garden! The terrace had fantastic view over the sea and beautiful Korcula, lemon trees, fig trees and a hammock providing plenty of tranqulity. A short walk of about 5 min took us to a pier perfect for swimming. Groceries, resturants and post office was equally close by. We could also take a ferry 5 min from home to lovely Korcula with greater output of resturants, shopping etc.

All in all, our vacation at this Villa was everything we could have hoped for. The owners Caroline and Jason are very very helpful and concerning, making all they can to provide a great stay. The village Kuciste and surrounding areas must be amongst the most beautiful in Croatia and we all plan to come back!

Thank you!

Location

From the Owner

We lived in Bosnia for 7 years and spent many happy weekends in our VW Campervan exploring the dalmatian coast. It got hotter and harder to camp with our growing young family and when we stumbled upon Kuciste and this lovely house, we fell in love with it and subsequently spent many weekends, weeks and months enjoying it with friends and family. Sadly we can't get it to use it as much as we were able when we lived close by but its always a pleasure to see other families enjoying it like we have.
