Overview

About the property

Apartment in Bol, Island of Brac, Dalmatian Coast, Croatia - Peaceful Residential Location, 10 Mins Walk to Beaches and Village Centre

This is the ground floor apartment of an original old stone house built approximately 150 years ago. Renovation has been carried out by local craftsmen to extremely high specification. The apartment consists of an open-plan kitchen and living area supplemented by a modern shower room with wash basin and wc. There is a double bedroom and a double sofabed in the living area giving a capacity of 4 persons. Bol is a quite unique location and probably one of the most desirable holiday destinations in Croatia. It is the home of the most famous - and most photographed - beach in Croatia: Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn). Bol is also the oldest settlement on the island of Brac. The central part of the village is built mainly of stone of local origin but there are more modern buildings on the outskirts of the village and modern hotels are discreetly hidden among the pine trees between the village and Zlatni Rat.

About Eddie Duncan

I love my holidays in Bol! Other interests are my family, graphic design, football (I support my local non-league side), swimming, gardening, diy.

Eddie Duncan purchased this apartment in 2004

Why Eddie Duncan chose Brac

I have Croatian friends who had told me not to buy abroad until I had been to Croatia and, in particular, Bol. We went to Bol on a package deal staying at one of the hotels for a week. As soon as we saw Bol we fell in love with it. It is a really beautiful location and the sea is so clean and clear. Being on the seaward side of an island makes access just a little more awkward and, therefore, more appealing.

What makes this apartment unique

The property is set in a small, quiet residential close with friendly local people as neighbours. It is only five minutes from the centre of the village and all of the beaches are between five and 25 minutes walk. This is a quite unique neighbourhood where the immediate neighbours are local people and seasonal workers. Guests are requested to respect the neighbours and interact with them by introducing themselves please.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We had a wonderful and very relaxing holiday. It was our second time in Bol and I'm sure that we will return again as we love the scenery of Brac and the understated tourism. We were very happy with the apartment, which is very spacious and airy and fantastically well equipped. The bed was very comfortable, the shower fantastic and it was really good to have proper kitchen facilities so that we didn't have to eat out every evening. We enjoyed the terrace and lovely views too of course! The only things that would have improved our stay would have been a freezer compartment and a coffee machine or cafetiere."

"We had a great time in Bol, really enjoyed it. The apartment was brilliant, nice view, nice stroll into town and nice to be in an orginal building not one of the new builds."

"We had a fantastic time, the apartment was lovely. The place is beautiful and the people where really nice. We will be coming back and when we do will be in contact straight away."

Good little apartment

  • 4 of 5

This apartment is in a great location, just a short and pleasant walk up the steep hillside from the lively Bol quayside, yet in a quiet cul-de-sac.

Easy access on foot to several beaches, or take the taxi boat from the harbour.

We enjoyed the sea view from the little terrace across rooftops and the excellent shower and very comfortable bed.

Not air conditioned - but a fan is provided in the bedroom. We slept well in very hot weather.

Would have given 5 stars if the outside table was just a little bigger and less wobbly.

Had a really great holiday and hope to return soon.

First Time in Brac

  • 4 of 5

The apartment was clean and spacious. 10 minutes walk from the centre. Quiet, convenient but secluded. As a self-catering apartment it would benefit from a few additional utensils such as a colander, cheese grater and if there were more than 2 people sharing clothes storage might be an issue. The fridge does not have a freezer compartment so those people who enjoy ice with their drinks will be disappointed. The absence of a welcome pack was also a disappointment. The bed was very comfortable and the fan was an absolute must in the absence of air-conditioning.

Attention to the above comments would have resulted in a 5 star rating.

Fin leilighet, men de lokale er lei av turister!

  • 2 of 5

  • 3 of 5

Fin lägenhet i gammalt stenhus på 5-10 min promenad från centrum. Wi-fi och AC hade höjt betyget.

Location

Car: not necessary

Coast/Beach:

There are several local beaches in the village which are very picturesque and offer a very different atmosphere to the popular Zlatni Rat. Zlatni Rat can be accessed via a pine covered tiled walkway from the village (approximately 20 minutes stroll). In season there are frequent ferries from the village harbour to Zlatni Rat and a land train which runs to and from the seafront in the village to the beach.

Travel:

Many carriers now fly to Croatia. Split airport is served by Wizzair - from Luton, easyJet - from Gatwick and Stansted and Croatia Airlines - from Gatwick and Heathrow. Also flights into Split from other UK airports as well as flights from all over Europe. There is a small airport near Bol served by small, twin-turbo aircraft carrying about 100 passengers. Croatia Airlines runs a service from Zagreb to Bol. There are other airlines running services into Bol airport from other European locations.

Distances:

Bol is linked to the mainland (Split) by a once-a-day catamaran service which leaves Bol early in the morning (6.30 am) and returns at 5 pm (leaving Split at 4 pm). This is definitely the most convenient method of accessing Bol from the mainland, taking only one hour. Other methods are car ferry from Split-Supetar-Split (1 hour) and then taxi (35 minutes) or local bus service (1 hour).

There is an airport just outside Bol with services from Zagreb and other European locations. Apparently, a private plane can be hired from Split Airport to Bol!
