Cottage, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms - Close to Medieval Dinan and Sandy Beaches
This restored stone and cob cottage, great for couples or families, is just 20 minutes from some of the best beaches in the area. These range from sandy coves with rock pools, wild dunes and cliff paths, to the splendid town beach in the centre of Dinard, with its many cafés and restaurants. Originally a Breton barn, the cottage keeps its ancient beams while providing a light, comfortable space where the visitor can enjoy views across the garden and the valley beyond. It sits on a sleepy country lane within a small hamlet, near the village of Pleslin, half way between medieval Dinan (10 minute drive) and the lively town of Dinard (20 minute drive). La Forgette provides an ideal base for a relaxing break in this wonderful part of Brittany.

A lovely well equipped rural gite
About the Owner
I live in England but spent several years living in Brittany when my three children were small. We still love spending as much time as possible in the area as even out of season it has so much to offer.

Clean and well equiped
A good base for exploring this part of Brittany. The property is exceptionally clean and well equiped. The only downsides were we found it rather dark
(we were there at the end of September), the lighting could be improved and the smell of pig manure which was overpowering at times. We assumed this was bad luck on our part, not a regular occurance!
A lovely well equipped rural gite
A great rural gite within easy driving distance of the coast and local attractions. If you are looking for a quiet spot with easy access to the sourounding area look no further. The gite was very clean and well equipped. A car is essential as there are not many amenities of note in the local village. The gite does have a steep spiral staircase which you may wish to be aware of if you have children or limited mobility. I would recommend as a relaxing rural gite and would happily return for another visit.
Interesting property with an amazing staircase. Comfortable with plenty of room.
We had a wonderful week at La Forgette. Our two dogs thoroughally enjoyed their daily morning walk in the woods right behind the cottage. It is a good location for exploring the towns of Dinard and Dinon as well as St Malo. The coastline is varied and interesting with sandy beaches as well as rocky outcrops. We were made very welcome and Andrew was most helpful.
We really enjoyed our stay, the cottage has a peaceful vibe. The kitchen has eveything you need to take advantage of the good local food(really good boulongire in the village) , and the garden is lovely, we like the area so with luck we will be back.
Dinan is great for restaurants, culture and walking along the river path. Be sure not to miss th market on Thursday in the main square.
The coast is close and the beaches are great.
Lovely quiet cottage with a beautiful garden
Thanks Andrew/Frances for a lovely week's stay in your cottage. The cottage (which was very comfortable, clean and well equipped) is in a quiet location, with a large garden backing onto woodland. We enjoyed visiting the beaches (15-20 mins drive - lots of great choices), and spent some lovely days out in Dinan and at Mont St Michel, with lots more to do/explore for those who want to pack more in (we took it slow and spent plenty of time in the cottage/garden). The village bakery gets top marks for bread, croissants and pastries! There were plenty of supermarkets around the various local towns for essentials and we sampled many different Creperies (very popular with our children). We'd love to come back to explore the region further and would recommend the cottage very highly. Thanks for a very pleasant stay.
JUST WHAT WE HAD HOPED FOR.
Wanting a short break in France we chose Brittany and La Forgette. Our first impressions of the area was ideal and a very warm welcome from Andrew made us feel at home when we arrived at the cottage. The setting was peaceful and just what we needed. Many a happy hour was spent in the delightful garden relaxing and barbecuing. The cottage had everything needed for our stay, was comfortable, clean and practical for couples or families....a choice of 2 sitting rooms! We wish we had had time to visit more of the many beaches not far away , but we plan to return and explore more of this area and will definitely stay again at La Forgette.
From the Owner
“The cottage enjoys the best of both worlds - a country location (a 'valley' walk starting at the bottom of the garden) as well as easy access to the coast, the River Rance and the nearby towns of Dinan, Dinard and St Malo with their many cafés and restaurants. We enjoy the stunning local beaches, either for swimming, sandcastles, rock pools or just wandering along collecting beautiful shells. An early walk to the bakers for fresh warm croissants or sitting outside eating moules et frites are great ways of appreciating a couple of the regions fabulous food offerings. Bring your bicycles to explore a network of quiet country lanes with not too many hills - one of our favourite activities! The old railway between Dinan and Dinard or the tow path on the river Rance are also great for exploring the area on bikes.”
Activity and Interests
Special interest holidays:
For cyclists, this area provides many enjoyable routes to explore with an abundance of empty country lanes and the tow path down the River Rance to Dinan. We have drawn up day cycle route maps taking in some of the best views and local restaurants. The coast provides fantastic views for walkers or, at a gentler pace, the tow path between Lehon and Dinan with refreshments at hand is always a popular choice. Not forgetting the walk directly from La Forgette to Pleslin via the 'Megalithes' - 65 stones surrounded by trees, and the excellent bakers a short distance further on!
Our nearest beaches are St. Jacut sur Mer (see photo), Lancieux, St. Briac sur Mer. All with plenty of sand and rock pools. For town beaches you can visit Dinard or Saint-Lunaire with lots of cafes and restaurants nearby. All are approx 20-30 minutes drive (8m/13km) from the cottage.
The port of St Malo is just 20 mins drive. Caen is approx 2 hours drive Cherbourg about 2.5 hours drive. Dinard Airport (Ryan Air) plus car hire are 10 min drive. Rennes airport (includes Flybe from Southampton) and Rennes train Station (TGV Paris) are both approx 40 mins drive.
The medieval city of Dinan with its shops, weekly market, museums and restaurants is just 10 minutes drive away. Other historic market towns such as Dol de Bretagne and Combourg have much to offer. Mont Dol as well as the famous Mont St Michel (40 mins drive) both make an interesting day out. St Malo and Dinard are within easy reach, as are the oyster beds of Cancale, and Cap Frehel with its dramatic views.
Our nearest village Pleslin is a couple of minutes drive or a 15-20 min walk via the ‘Megaliths’, the local historic site, with it’s 65 stones surrounded by trees. You will find there an excellent bakers, a small supermarket, a Post Office and a pharmacy.
