Farmhouse near Verteillac Dordogne, Aquitaine, France - Secluded and Very Private with Delightful Gardens
Les Petites Cotes is an ancient farmhouse beautifully placed on a hillside with breathtaking views over the surrounding countryside. Perfect for a family holiday in a picture-perfect rural location. We are just a mile from the pretty village of Bertric Buree which boasts a bakery and excellent fish restaurant. In spite of the beauty and peace of the location, Les Petites Cotes is not too remote and is within easy reach of all the essential amenities. The house has tremendous character and has been sympathetically renovated to preserve the original charm and yet all the modern conveniences (such as walk-in showers and Wi-Fi) are included to make your stay as pleasant and relaxing as possible. Situated in the north Dordogne, we are 6km from the town of Riberac, famous for its Friday morning market and for being the Foie Gras and truffle centre of France. The weekly market gives you a chance to buy all the wonderful locally-grown fresh produce. Take a drive past the fields of sunflowers and maize or visit the wine estates of Bergerac, Montbazillac or Bordeaux which are all on the doorstep.

Superb Farmhouse in beautiful position
About the Owner
When we visited Les Petites Cotes for the first time, we loved it so much, we had to buy it! We have now enjoyed 5 years spending wonderful summer holidays together with family and friends. We are a family with our own growing team of 3 kids, so we know how important all the little touches are that go towards a fantastic family break. Les Petites Cotes is a truly beautiful tranquil spot and there is nothing better than sitting on the terrace, cold beer in hand, enjoying the views of the rolling countryside, without any interruptions except the insects and the birds. The comments that we mostly get from visitors are "the photos don't do it justice" and "a magical place". We work hard all year so our breaks are really precious to us all - every visit is a treat.

Superb Farmhouse in beautiful position
This is a beautiful farmhouse at the end of its own track with long countryside views. It is well maintained, and Glen, the manager, is nearby for advice and snags. The space is very well arranged with the pool adjacent to the verandah and the verandah next to the kitchen. Its in English style down to the properly pruned and dead-headed pink roses. No glutinous, orange varnish on the oak beams, or spindly metal furniture. Although the property itself is not in the French manner it is ideally suited to take advantage of all the best that this region of France has to offer, from the markets to the castles and the meandering rivers. It is lush and warm. Fact: it only rains between 3 and 3-30 at night. The price looks high, but a stay here is well worth the money. We had a wonderful time with extended family from teenagers to a 60 year old. Try the local boulangerie. It's a classic. Perfect pain rustique delivered with a mere soupcon of resentment! Actually, he cracked by the end of the week!
Beautiful villa in a fabulous location
We loved our stay at Les Petites Cotes. The house was absolutely gorgeous with lovely rooms and beautiful garden and smashing pool. Everything we needed for a relaxing holiday was provided including lots of thoughtful extras like inflatables for the pool. The area is lovely and although we were reluctant to leave the house we did manage a couple of day trips to some local towns and Chateaus. The local restaurant, Aux Petits Oignons was fab too. We would highly recommend a stay!
Super location the sunsets not to be missed
the layout of the rooms suited us brilliantly including the little back stairs for the late night lad to creep up without disturbing the others. The flowers on the tables showed a real welcome care for us as did the support of the house manager, Glen.
Lots of local villages to explore, the 'supermarket' in Vertaillac is a treasure trove and not to be missed. Also a round of crazy golf on the way to Aubeterre. All thoroughly recommended.
Beautiful with tranquil setting
The most beautiful location, we found the house to be so peaceful and yet only a few minutes drive from the village of Verteillac with supermarket, bakery, banks, cafes and restaurants. And what a lovely local village! The house was charming and extremely well equipped. We would love to go back and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a typically french rural family holiday.
Two Perfect Weeks in the Dordogne
We absolutely adored Les Petites Cotes and it suited us perfectly. As an extended family group we were particularly grateful for the fact it was so beautifully maintained and secure from a roving toddler point of view, which meant us grown ups really could relax in comfortable and beautiful surroundings. The house is very attractive and also very functional. It is remote, but not excessively so, although the village is not within walking distance, but there are so many wonderful towns and villages within a short driving distance and the location and views are outstanding. The website really does not do it justice.
A perfect home-from-home in Perigord
We have just returned from a two week stay at Les Petites Cotes, and could quite happily have stayed longer. Although the property is quite remote, providing total privacy, the close proximity of lovely Verteillac ensured we never felt isolated.
The house itself is charming and beautifully furnished. The owners have got the balance just right: whilst it is clearly a much-loved family house, totally avoiding the sterile feel of some rental properties, you never feel like a cuckoo in someone else's nest. With regard to key areas, the bathrooms were fitted to a high quality, the kitchen is extremely well-equipped, the pool is well-maintained but the standout feature for us was the outdoor eating area. The table comfortably seated all nine of us at mealtimes and the seating area provided a wonderful place to congregate in the evening.
In terms of area, we were initially concerned that we were too far from either the coast or the tourist sights of Perigord. We needn't have worried. Nearby sights such as Brantome and Bourteilles are fascinating and there are plenty of opportunities for more adventurous souls, particularly the kayak expeditions on the Dronne, which can be tailored to your energy levels. Having found the river beaches at St Aulaye and Aubeterre, we didn't feel the need to venture west to the coast at all.
We made two trips south to visit Sarlat, Les Eyzies, Lascaux and Rouffignac, enjoyed them thoroughly, but were always glad to escape the hustle and bustle and return home.
In conclusion, Les Petites Cotes is an idyllic base for a family holiday in the Dordogne. We hope to return one day.
From the Owner
“The house is approached via a tree-lined driveway which leads only to this picturesque property. The house is extremely pretty with typically-French charm. The location, between the lovely village of Verteillac and bustling Riberac is ideal. Although the house is a haven of tranquility sitting on its own hillside, it is within 5 minutes by car from the local bakery, bank, supermarket, cafes and restaurants.”
