About the property

House near Collioure and Port Vendres, Languedoc Roussillon, France - Exceptional Location, Extremely Private And Tranquil, Ten Minute Walk To The Beach

This house sits on one of the most beautiful sites in the world. The ground floor consists of the bathroom, main bedroom and 'cabine' bedroom. Upstairs has a fully fitted kitchen and open plan living/dining area. Every room offers superb views. The interior is quite small however there is ample outdoor space, the large sea facing terrace gets the sun from early morning until evening, in addition to the main outdoor dining table there is a light portable dining table which you can take to other parts of the garden to enjoy the different views or indeed to get in or out of the sun, there is also a BBQ on wheels supplied. There is an exterior stone staircase which links the two floors. There is no interior staircase. It's located on a hill overlooking the sea and vineyards just a 10 minute walk to the beach and 20 minute walk to the lively village of Port Vendres. It is on a private two acre site with pine and eucalyptus trees ideal for hanging the hammock in the shade from which you can enjoy the sea and vineyard views while listening to the wonderful sound of silence! There is a steep driveway up to the house so it is not entirely suitable for the elderly or those with mobility problem. As the interior of the house is quite small, for your own comfort, we feel that 6 people is the maximum we can take in one group. Previous guests have described this house as 'magical' and 'a little corner of paradise'. One week may not be enough! Feel free to ask about our last minute booking deals.

About Suzanne O'Reilly

I am Irish and have lived in France for about 20 years. My partner is French and we have two little ones. We live all year round in the Pyrenees Orientales. I toured the world throughout my twenties but when I stumbled across Collioure and Port Vendres I knew instantly that I had found my new home. It is handy for our guests that we are close-by for any tips on the region or assistance that may be required during ones stay.

Suzanne O'Reilly purchased this house in 2002

Why Suzanne O'Reilly chose Port-Vendres

We choose to live in this part of the world because of it's sheer beauty, mild year-round climate, fantastic people, top quality wine, superb Catalan cuisine, beautiful clean beaches... need I go on?! It is easy to access with several low cost airlines flying into Perpignan, Gerona and Carcassonne and now one can fly from Dublin to Perpignan direct with Aer Lingus! Hurray!

What makes this house unique

Our villa is ideal for those who love nature, walking, snorkeling, diving, golfing, sunbathing, cycling, fine wines and gourmet dining or simply swinging in the hammock admiring the sea view! The house is extremely private, the gardens are huge and yet you are just a short stroll from the town and the beaches. Excellent wifi access.

Guestbook comments from the owner

'While sitting in the garden facing the sea we spotted dolphins, does it get any better than this?' John Ahearne.

'Walkers paradise.' Shauna from West Cork.

'We really enjoyed snorkeling in a nearby bay called Sainte Catherine, also from the house there is a designated walk down the hillside away from any traffic which leads onto the most beautiful sheltered little beach which gets the sun all day and late into the evening. Swimming in the area was really safe for our young children, they had so much freedom on the site itself and also in the surrounding areas, it was the best family holiday we have ever been on. The sea water was so clean and transparent, a real joy! The pressure is on to go back!

The Gannon family from Yorkshire.

Private, quiet house with a view of the sea

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this secluded house with its outdoor terrace and view of the sea. Walking out of the driveway into a national park was pretty fabulous. The owners couldn't have been more helpful with the house and steering us in the right directions in town. They are delightful people. And they are completely discreet, but warmly available if necessary. We don't really want to review this house, so no one will discover this special spot, but we can't help but recommend it!

Amazing location, beautiful villa, incredible view

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in this beautiful villa at the end of June with my husband & the kids. We where so happy when we got to the villa. It was perfect for us. The bedrooms where clean & a good size, the bathroom was immaculate with a lovely big shower & the kitchen/sitting room was very well equipped. We ate outside most nights as the veranda is huge & with views over the Med where incredible. Front view was the glistening blue sea & to the right of the villa was rows & rows of vineyards...this is what a holiday is all about. The kids loved it too & went swimming everyday in the sea, which was only a few minutes walk away.We had a wonderful relaxing time here, but there was plenty to do in Port Vendres & the outlining areas..we even had a day trip to Spain which was great fun. Port Vendres has plenty of restaurants which are so reasonable & the wine was incredible in this area. This really is such a beautiful part of France & we can't wait to go back.

Suzanne was very helpful, from booking the villa, giving us lots of info on where to eat or visit. Having a fluent English & French speaker really helps also.. I couldn't fault anything. I would definitely recommend this property as either a Summer or Winter let. It really is so relaxing & it gets one away from the hassle & bustle of life...That's what a holiday is all about. So thank Suzanne & Mathieu for letting us stay in your beautiful villa & we look forward to coming back to stay soon :)

An amazing romantic serene location by the sea

  • 5 of 5

We arrived by car and the drive up to the house from Port Vendres was breath taking with a panoramic view of the sea. Our holiday home was just what we expected having reviewed it online before we arrived. Set in a private location in the middle of vine yards with a view of the Med from our balcony yet within walking distance from the beach. Our accommodation was spotless with terrace and living quarters upstairs to maximise the view. We could sit sipping our local wine watching the sun setting without being overlooked by anyone. The holiday was most peaceful and relaxing away from the busy crowded beaches elsewhere in France. Definitely to be repeated.

Idyllic enclave set amongst the vines.

  • 4 of 5

The house was clean and well presented and it was so great to have all the linen and towels provided so we could save packing space for the Saturday market bargains! Loved the split level making it easy to put the kids to bed and then stay out on the terrace enjoying the amazing views across the coast drinking a bottle (or two) of the local produce. Owners greeted us and were helpful in accommodating our requests. We liked being in the peaceful surrounds of the vineyards and also being able to walk to town for the restaurants and cafés. Perfect spot for relaxation.

Away from it all..

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this little house in the hills above Port Vendre with our two dogs for four weeks in July. The place overlooks the sea and we spent many evenings watching the boats go in and out of the harbour. The house had all we needed for our stay. We explored the many footpaths through the hills and found little coves to sunbathe, bought fish from the local fishermen and visited the nearby towns. The little train that takes you through the vines to Collioure is a must! Also visit the local art exhibitions in the building above the square, and shop in the market on the weekend. We had a great time with space to get away from it all and relax.

La dolce vita

  • 4 of 5

We've been coming back to this lovely place for several years. Close to the sea and a superb fish-restaurant (Le Poisson Rouge, highly recommended), and with a tranquil atmosphere between the vines. Highly recommended!
