Ski Apartment in Les Arcs, Savoie, Rhone Alpes, France - Lovely 1600m Resort Of Plan Peisey - For The Vanoise Express Cable Car, Which Gives You Paradiski!

The perfect choice: 20m to the four-man chair to ski all of Les Arcs, or glide 300m to ski all of La Plagne via the awesome 200 man Vanoise Express cable car linking both resorts. Beside it is another six-man chair for Les Arcs. Positioned very near a great restaurant and a lovely childrens' play area, the apartment enjoys the truly stunning panorama of the Vanoise National Park. A few mins walk to the resorts of Plan Peisey and Vallandry which offer great après-ski, restaurants, ski hire and lessons. The closest Eurostar and Snowtrain station is at Landry, the penultimate stop before the terminus at Bourg St Maurice. Landry is about ten minutes from the apartment by taxi, or about a thirty minutes transfer from Bourg St Maurice. Chambery is the closest airport at just over an hour away by car. Transfers from Geneva, Grenoble and Lyon airports are approximately two hours away.

An extremely keen skier, I love the Alps and have enjoyed staying in chalets, self-catering apartments and hotels in France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and North America.

Having been introduced to skiing by my Scottish wife("If you can ski in Scotland, you can ski anywhere" - not because it's difficult but because it's mostly awful) our two children are now both truly enjoying the many positives to skiing.

As a Lecturer I am extremely fortunate in having the time to visit the Alps in all the seasons, as summer offers many other thrills.

Great location and good value

I'm not normally a great one for writing reviews but am doing so after reading the very uncomplimentary review by Johnb, which does not reflect my experience at all. Peoples' definition of "ski in ski out" varies. There is a short trek up quite a steep hill to get to the chairlift, but this is no worse than many apartments at twice or three times the price, including one CGH resort I stayed at in Tignes a month later. Once on the lift, the whole of the Paradiski area is your oyster, and the slopes immediately above Vallandry are probably the best in the whole region. The apartment is not brand new and perhaps a little faded in places, but is comfortable and very spacious. You get what you pay for! The heated boot rack inside the apartment is a boon. I found the owner to be very helpful and friendly if you call him. There is an excellent supermarket, ski hire shop and very friendly bar/restaurant a short walk away, with the main village a little further. I would thoroughly recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a reasonably priced well located apartment, and have already booked to return next year.

Owner is not reputable

My family rented and stayed at this apartment after Christmas. The owner was always difficult to get a hold of and never that responsive. Red flags I should have paid attention to. I went ahead and rented since the location was in the area I wanted my family to be in to ski. The apartment was dirty upon our arrival. I would have thought the owner would have done some basic cleaning, such as sweeping and vacuuming, prior to our arrival, but he did not. The apartment itself was spacious enough for my family of five. The location is not ski in/out. To ski out you must traverse up a small hill and get on a small chairlift. That chairlift only takes you to a spot on the last run that leads you to the main Peisey lift and Vanoise Express. Might as well lug everything and walk to the Peisey lift directly. To ski in takes quite a bit of poling up hill and then walking everything down the small hill. The Plan Peisey area is wonderful and I am glad we stayed in that town. It is very central to the whole ski area and is perfect for families who are just there to ski. If you want night life as many have said, Plan Peisey is pretty quiet, but that was fine with my family. In the end the owner has refused to send me back the security deposit. He has not given any reason why, other then it is something he does not wish to be bothered with. So, in the end, my advice is not to rent this apartment if you are looking for ski in/out, you are paying extra for something it does not have. If you do rent this apartment calculate the security deposit into the overall cost when comparing it to other apartments as the owner will not give it back to you. If you are not looking for great night life and want a very friendly village in a very central spot for skiing the whole resort over a couple of days then Plan Peisey is the perfect place for you to stay.

Owner's Response: Equally, red flags should wave for owners! My initial communication makes it very clear that Plan Peisey is not Benidorm which is what families and non-partysoaruses prefer. Following a pre-season clean, as the first guests of the season I know the apartment was spotless, but we obviously have different ideas of cleanliness. As all the other guests managed to follow my advice, the lift outside the apartment does take you to a gentle blue run which does indeed take you down to the main lifts. However, this blue run also splits immediately when joined from the chairlift and leads, via the boulevard through the trees, to Vallandry's Grizzly chairlift which takes you to the highest elevation above Peisey Vallandry. The guests' inability to see this is clearly my fault. You actually can ski back to the lower door of the apartment building, which is the same level as the apartment. You absolutely do not have to be a particularly proficient skier to be able to do this. Despite the need to have the apartment independently cleaned before the following guests arrived, I reluctantly returned all the deposit, which I regret.

Convenient location

As regular apartment renters for large groups, we prioritise location and space, and this apartment score top marks for both.

Despite a lock of snow on the lowest slopes for our week in mid December, the lift beside the building took us high enough to ski down into Vallandry to pick up the Grizzly chairlift - perfect for all of Les Arcs!

The heated ski boots and clothes room was fantastic, guaranteeing that we hit the slopes feeling comfortably dry and warm.

An extremely well stocked, spacious kitchen made cooking easy when we couldn't be bothered to go out after lovely hot showers,

The local après-ski bar/restaurant was welcoming and delicious, and easily accessible rom the adjacent blue run. Be sure to book!

All in all, despite the iffy double bedroom décor, great value for money compared to many apartments we have stayed in and we'll definitely be back.

Although not the longest chairlift in the resort, it does allow you to access the blue run which gets you up the mountain quickly, and when there is not much snow! Jim

Great Week Had By All

Fantastic location, right by the Parchey ski lift which opens 10 minutes before all the other lifts ( so you can get the Parchey, traverse across to the Grizzly chairlift and avoid the 9 am ski school carnage down on the Peisey & Vallandry lifts) Can then take the Derby, and be on the Transarc Gondola within 25 mins of leaving the apartment. Other Option is to traverse from Parchey and get on the Vanoise Express over to La Plagne / Montchavin/Les Coches which is great. We were there on a busy French half term week so tactics for queue avoidance were crucial ( i.e breakfast like kings in the apartment - Eggs, Sausages, Toast and Cereal then ski right through to 2pm so you are skiing whilst the French have their lazy 2 hr lunch)

La Vache Bar/Restaurant was 1 minute climb up or stumble back to the apartment - great for a sunny few beers or a very nice meal - has decent WiFi too.

Mont Blanc ( 15 mins walk away) is a livelier/later bar - if you go on a Wednesday night they have a live band and it is Saisionnaires/Chalet Hosts night off - goes crazy at about 10.30 with everyone taking most of their clothes off and crowd surfing ! Burgers and Pizzas are cheap and nice at the Mont Blanc too.

The apartment is very spacious with lovely hot power showers. plenty of storage. The only negatives are that it needs a bit of TLC and skis & boots have to be stored immediately next to the front door on a mat and boots go in plastic boxes, there is no key for a ski locker ( which means soggy socks if you forget about the melting snow on the mat) Plus point is the excellent Ipod docking station and decent TV with quite a stock of DVDs too. All in all a fabulous week - I love Peisey-Vallandry, skiing/boarding through the trees and no queues, apart from start of day on the village lifts and end of day on the TSD Derby ( which is the way people have to go to get back over to Les Arcs) Les Arcs and La Plagne have some great off piste if you are prepared to go and look - we had a metre of fresh snow and most days the pistes were like off piste ! cracking 3 days of sun to end the week...the perfect combination...loads of fresh followed by sunny blue skies aaahhh only 350 days to go until next year !

From the Owner

The area around the apartment is truly beautiful, with an unobstructed view up the valley between Vallandry and La Plagne. For unbeatable convenience, there is a four-man chairlift 20metres from the apartment which takes you towards Les Arcs. However, the apartment is still only a few hundred metres from the impressive 200-man cable car 'The Vanoise Express' linking Les Arcs with La Plagne, now known as Paradiski. For even more choice this is beside a 6-man chairlift for Les Arcs. Just 3-minutes walk into the lovely village of Plan Peisey its ski-in/out location really does make it ideal for a fantastic week of skiing - as easy or as challenging as you want!

The apartment is in Plan Peisey, the resort in Les Arcs which links with La Plagne!


The closest Eurostar and Snowtrain station is at Landry, which is about 10mins away by taxi. The next stop Bourg St Maurice is still only a further 15 mins away. Easy transfer by either taxi or bus. Chambery is the closest airport at just over an hour away by car. Transfers from Grenoble, Lyon and Geneva airports are about 2 hours away.


A two minutes walk, about 150m to Plan Peisey for local shops, bars and restaurants. A further five minutes walk will take you to Vallandry for more shops, bars and restaurants!

Worth noting is the restaurant beside the apartment building, La Vache does have WiFi, as do several restaurants and bars in the resort.

Further Details:

For both the seasoned 'mountaineer' and for the newcomer, Summer in the Alps is truly breathtaking and can offer a great deal more than in winter which is mainly confined to skiing or boarding.

The aromas, fauna, flora and wonderful views form the base of a memorable holiday. Depending on your pace of life, your pace of holiday can be accommodated: from parapenting to painting and picnicking, rock climbing to relaxing walks, white water rafting to wine on a lido in a mountain lake, mountain biking to stabilisers!

Simply sipping a chilled wine or beer after a day out in the mountains, taking in the gorgeous view cannot be reproduced - it has to be done live!

To maintain the change in scenery from the mountains the local town of Bourg St Maurice has a good selection of bars, bistros and restaurants. An extensive market comes to town each Wednesday(but best to check with the local tourist information) for sumptuous local produce including cheeses, meats and wines.

A unique route down to the town is on the very impressive funicular railway from Arc 1600, which takes approximately 25 minutes to walk to from the apartment. The ticket can be purchased separately or is automatically included when a general lift pass is purchased.

Because of the various lifts that are open, including the funicular railway it is quite easy to stay in the apartment during the summer without your own car, but as with most destinations your mobility around the area increases if you do have one. If you are more than one group wishing to stay, the apartment's location at the end of a cul-de-sac does afford plentiful parking, with additional benefits in the form of privacy and improved children's safety.

Apart from its ideal location the apartment allows guests to truly relax. The very comfortable lounge is convivial to a chill-out mood. The kitchen is equipped to offer the more adventurous chefs scope to create, or for those who just want to flop the convenience to do so! The dining room comfortably seats 8 whilst listening to your own CD's or radio. The apartment allows a large party or a couple of families more than the average amount of room to enjoy a week together without tripping over each other or having to sleep in any living area. There is no WiFi in the apartment but the restaurant just above the apartment building does. Utility Room: The entrance hall to the apartment is a ski and boot storage area separate from the main living and sleeping rooms. This provides you with greater security and convenience rather than having to use separate lockers located elsewhere in the building. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: A complete set of new linen is provided for each bed on changeover day, typically a Saturday unless another day is agreed. However, guests will need to bring their own towels. Other: The dining room table seats 10 people comfortably, when extended. In the same design is a lovely sideboard containing many games and puzzles though, of course, guests are very welcome to bring their own.
