About the property

Independent, lovely garden, in quaint historic village, central

This cottage was built from scratch just a few years ago, repurposing original stone from the ruins of a pre-existing Roman building. Views are stunning.

The garden on the ground floor is ideal for rest and relaxation. Two long chairs with padded cushions are provided.

The first floor, with stone tile flooring and exposed wood beams, has a living area with a cushioned bench (which can double as a bed for 1 person), a full kitchen with 4 knobs, an oven, an a stainless steel counter, and a large terrace. An outdoor table can be set up on the terrace for al-fresco dining.

The second floor has hard-wood flooring, slanted wood-beamed cathedral ceiling, and a large French window opening onto a cute little terrace. There is one bedroom with an Italian "matrimoniale" bed (in between queen and king size, 163 cm/64"), and a bathroom with a bidet and shower.

There is no private parking at the property, but the little town has plenty of free public parking throughout. Depending on the time of day you may find one very close to the house, or a short walk away, at most a few hundred yards.

Regarding food / dining, Brienno is a lovely place, but it is a very small town - it only has a great pizzeria and a gorgeous upscale restaurant. However, in the town next door, Argegno (3 km) there is a lovely bakery, a small fruit/vegetable store, and a small salumeria (salami, prosciutto, copa, etc). In terms of large supermarkets, we recommend the Bennet supermarket (in Como, near Cernobbio - about a 10-15 minute drive from Brienno), which carries both local and regional Italian ingredients - great quality and prices. There is also a large covered market in the center of Como ( as well as many other specialized vendors nearby (butchers, cheesemongers, wine stores, etc) if you want the fully 'authentic' experience. It's about 20-25 minutes away.

On the opposite direction, there is another good mid-sized supermarket in Lenno, about 7 minutes away.

We have compiled a thorough list with many restaurant recommendations in the area, feel free to ask if you are interested.

The Milan airports are both 40 min away. It is very close to Laglio (George Clooney's Villa) and to Cernobbio, with their fine restaurants.

Boat-tours stop at the world-famous villas and their botanical gardens.

Day trips to Como and Milan with their art and culture, restaurants, and shopping (designer outlets, silk scarves and ties) are a must.

Hi, welcome to our beloved Chalet Lilia!

I am Lilia, the owner. I now live in Manhattan, but I was born and raised in beautiful , romantic Como.

I want you to know that cottage was a labor of love. My Mom found the property while hiking on the Lake, and it was just a ruin, with the single most magnificent view she had ever seen. My Dad and I, an couple of years later, designed every inch of a dream cottage we had in mind. Within a year, it was built. We followed the process day and night throughout. For several years we spent week-ends and holidays there. I actually lived there full time for one full year in 2003. Then I married a handsome Canadian man, and I moved to America; my beloved Dad passed away, and my Mom continues to keep the cottage alive by sharing it with visitors from all over the world.

Carmen purchased this house in 1996

It was conceived to be used as our own holiday home, not a rental property - we put love and care into every little detail.

Outside: The garden is an ideal place for sunbathing and relaxing, there are wood folding chairs provided, 1 sunbed/lounger with thick padded cushioning and 2 tree-trunk outdoor benches. We also provide: - Two cushioned lounge chairs to relax in the garden. - A wood outdoor table for dinner on the terrace or in the garden. - 3 cushioned wood folding chairs to go with the outdoor table - 2 wood armchairs for the upstairs balcony - A bench for the main terrace or the garden Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are provided and changed every week.

Owners went above and beyond

This was a sweet little getaway with a wonderful view, and the owners are lovely.

The apartment itself is on two stories. It is quite compact - on the bottom, a little kitchen, table and sitting bench behind the table, which doubles as somewhere to sleep. On the top is a airy bedroom and the bathroom. Outside is a balcony and there is a garden below. The views are fantastic. As a note for anyone with small children - you will have to keep an eye on them outside as the railings have gaps that kiddies could easily pass through. It felt very private and quiet (except for the standard church bells).

The apartment is up a large set of stairs from the street, so be prepared to lift your luggage. There is generally parking in the village below - there was only one time we could not find parking during a week's stay (Saturday night). The location is convenient - a pretty short drive to the bigger towns that have more of the attractions. Wifi is extra.

The owners were great. We left a wallet behind and they made a heroic effort to try to return it to us - eventually mailing some contents to North America!

What a view !!

We had a brilliant relaxing stay. The location was beautiful and great for getting out and about to discover the area. Recommend hiring a boat, get the ferries across to Bellagio and Varena. We hired a boat from Agregno for 3 hours and it was fantastic, a different perspective, very relaxing and great fun in wonderful scenery. The Chalet was lovely, had everything we needed and the view from the balcony is simply stunning.

Quiet, peaceful with beautiful views

Chalet Lillian is really well appointed with everything you need for a perfect stay.

Brienno is quiet with one very good pizzeria. We used public transport throughout and local buses run fairly regularly. The ferry only stops on Sunday and Bank Holidays.

Lake Como has beautiful views wherever you look and swimming with ducks is a memory to treasure. We definitely want to return one day and explore this lovely part of Italy some more.

Stunning views!

Chalet Lilia is a very cleverly-designed cottage on the edge of Lake Como; it has almost everything you could need for a holiday, along with the most incredible views! We wished we could have stayed for longer - pack light though, the cottage is 82 steps up from the street; we certainly left feeling fitter! We would definitely recommend this property - it's cosy, private, and only a short drive to Como and any number of gorgeous villages along the lake. Thanks to Carmen for being such an excellent hostess!

Absolutely priceless view

This is a wonderful, private place with full views of Lake Como. Brienno is a quiet village with one street and there are 2 private terraces and a garden. The 100+ steps to get to it are not for the out of shape, but well worth it! It would be a great place for a honeymoon, or in our case, a 40th anniversary!
